To MT10 or...Hold on a sec!!. Why I swapped my Aprilia Tuono V4 1100 Factory for an MT10

My old man ramblings on why I sold the Aprilia Tuono V4 1100 Factory and now own a Yamaha MT10.
Obviously all opinions are my own and yes I may well be talking rubbish :D

    I had 10 plus bikes the last 6 years. 3 aprilia Tuonos v4, two factorys and one standard version. I also got back to the MT10. I bought a 2022 leftover SP for a god price. The MT10 is more comfy, fast enough and the SP handles wery god also but is more playfull than the Tuono. The Tuono was a monster on the road inspiering insane speeds all the time. I think its to focused to ride sensible. I love the comfort on the MT10, the peace off mind on the mekanic and reability and the CP4 is as a god sounding as the V4 in my opinion.

    South Germany to Wales in a single day… my hat is off to you, sir. Just completed a Euro tour with a friend who has a Tuono. It’s a glorious bike, but I wouldn’t be able to live with it the way I can with my MT-10 (high miles, daily commuting etc just seems like an immoral fate for such a bike). AndyManCam seems like a solid guy, must have been a fun ride (and Germany is still a great country for petrolheads, can’t wait to go back again). Really enjoyed your vlog, mate 👍🏽

    Thank you, I don't know why I do these things to myself but it seemed like a good idea at the time. You are 100% correct about the Tuono v MT.     I owned a 2018 MT10 SP until 2 months ago. I traded it for a 2023 Tuono V4 Factory. Two different but similar bikes. As for the engine, you can feel much more torque on the Tuono (they have a difference of 10Nm, but it actually feels like at least double) Suspension works much better on the Tuono, thanks to its state of art frame. This bike clearly makes you feel that you are the limit, not the bike itself. The MT10 is much more of a friendly bike, easier to use and comfortable over long distances, but if you really push it (like on a fast track day) you can feel its limits. The brakes on the MT10 are a big NO and when you're trying to push, you'd prefer a sportier riding position. I upgraded the brakes of my MT with steel braided lines, ebc synth pads and R1 master cylinder but, now that I have a Tuono, I can say that they still are miles away from the Aprilia full Brembo system. ABS works better too. Aesthetic way the Tuono looks like a piece of art while the MT10 was more of a Transformer look. The Aprilia's tail section screams power, the MT10 was more of a touring tail look. On the other hand the MT10 has hooligan power delivery, you are always on one wheel and for fun you may be better off with it than the Tuono. But I can say that I am very happy with the Tuono. It's a fantastic bike, more adult than the MT10, more serious let's say. I called my Tuono Superleggera (ultralight in Italian) as I replaced the original wheels with BST carbon fiber ones, and OMG I must say they are a phenomenal upgrade. You lose a lot of KGs on the rotating masses and this means that the bike is even faster (than it already is) when changing direction and when leaning.

    If my Tuono were my only bike, I'd probably feel the same way. It's definitely a gas guzzler and not cheap at all to maintain. However, it is absolutely my favorite bike I have ever owned. So, for me, it's worth keeping a few bikes in the garage to keep the Aprilia!

    I described the Tuono as the best bike I've ever owned but not the best bike for what I use it for. Multiple bikes are the way to go 👍

    *Finally* found someone bringing up maintenance in the evaluation of a motorcycle. I've never seen anyone bring that up during a comparison test. All of the Aprilia and KTM dealers in my area are on the other side of New York City from me and I'd want to know how involved doing it yourself is and how often you'd have to do it yourself. Even the most genuine sounding channels don't stray far from the copy that the manufacturer hands them to read. Glaringly obvious during the R7 launch and nobody thought to run it on a track against the fully faired middleweight sportbike it was replacing.

    It is a major consideration that no-one really considers when lusting after the new bike. But the Aprilia and Ducatis of this world are very high maintenance. Especially if you do more than the odd weekend ride to the local biker cafe. I would still have another Tuono however but not as an only bike but I've moved onto the new Mt-10 SP that is my sweet spot. Thanks for the comments

    Loved the MT10 I test rode but two things stopped me buying one. Firstly there’s the tank range. 75miles doesn’t make for a good tourer. I emptied the test bike tank in under 75 miles and had to too it up before returning it. Second thing was I rode a bmw R1200RS. It floored me with how good it was. Not the bonkers engine of the MT but better everywhere else. Comfortable, fab tourer, handles brilliantly, is quick enough and stops on a sixpence. Didn’t rate the MT10 brakes and it wasn’t as comfortable to ride. Sold my Aprilia and now can’t see past the big boxer twin. If i had room in the garage I’d add an MT10sp.

    Impressive. Even I managed an average of around 120 miles per tank but it isn't called the Empty 10 for nothing :D Not ready for a GS and anyway I just took the new SP around Luxembourg and it was awesome. Great thing about bikes is that there's always something that suits. Plus it's fun finding it !👍

    the 2022 is better on the MPGs. Im around 0.65 l/10km. It gives you around 15-20% longer range than the old version. I had around 0.74 on the old.

    yeah if you don't mind riding around on a pack mule. A big fat pack mule! BMW's are way tooooo heavy.

    I'm 67and I love my Aprilia tuono, I would not looking at another bike now, completely hooked on the Aprilia, the soundtrack alone is deeper than MT10/R1,proper v4, I'll put up with the service cost, even the M10 service will cost money eventually, although service intervals might be bigger, still a nice bike, but the Aprilia puts a smile on my face every time I ride it, Fireblade, older R1s, zx10r, didn't do it for me ,but Aprilia dose 😀 👍

    I had an MT10 of the same shape as yours, if I went back to one from my current Tuono 1100 V4 factory, I’d totally miss the quickshifter/blipper. But I agree on the servicing costs, it’s a bit steep. I’d also hugely miss the stopping power of the Brembos!

    I now have a 2022 MT-10 SP. I now have a quick shift and blipper plus braded hoses which sorts out the majorty of our issues. Check out some of my more recent videos

    If you don't like the front brake fit a set of Brembo sintered pads. Much better feel and response, gives bags more confidence.

    Tengo una mt10 del año 2017 y solo una pega ...su temperatura sube demasiado cuando no está en movimiento, se calienta más que cualquier otra moto que haya tenido antes...y son unas cuantas ...por lo demás, excelente máquina!!

    All these thin hard seats are for hot countries normally. I brought an mt10 number plate in an auction so now have to buy the bike, thay price you paid sounds good 👍

    Guess I am getting old. Considering the MT10 Sp. Have a 2020 S1000rr. Love the bike, but bad wrists after an accident, and I am considering my options. Like the look of the cb1000r, but we don't get it in Australia. Is Yamaha as reliable as Honda? Not in love with the front end look of the MT10, but I hear they have a habit of putting a smile on your face.

    It was so tempting. The problem is that it just takes one pull by the German police and your bike is is gone, holiday ruined etc etc. Although saying that I never did end up taking that bike to Germany but only had it for a year

    The MT10 is no better for comfort in my opinion the seat is terrible and even the comfort seat is hard. Both nice bikes though.

    If you came in on an Aprilia I would have given you the bike on "loud." What he prolly didn't want to explain was the insurance not wanting fast bikes out on the road. Well I hope they see this video! Not a fan of BMW dealerships, Well dressed thief with a slick sales pitch. I got completely ignored at the BMW dealership in Barrington, Illinois. I will never step foot in that place again. Bout as friendly as a french kissing Rattler!

    Unfortunately it’s an all to common experience with this particular dealer. It doesn’t help that they are, by far, the largest bike dealers in South Wales. Anyway I’ve tried to move on and not be too wound up by them. I haven’t been there since.
