TnT Railgun Using Minecraft's Quantum Mechanics

Ойындар

Here's a cool idea, how about we build an armour piercing TnT railgun using what I consider to be Minecraft's quantum mechanics. In this video we explore how we can use advanced subtick mechanics to manipulate redstone to do things your average redstoner could only dream of.

    There is actually an entire small Technical Minecraft community around this. They build "War Gears". Basically huge Buildings with lots of different TNT Cannons. Then they shot each other robots with the cannons and who ever gets destroyed first loses. There are a lot of different concepts for cannons and a lot of different rules for the different communities. I am from Germany and I have only been active in some small German communities, but maybe there are some English communities as well. I am sure you would be able to build some fantastic advanced cannons.

    This made me think of the scicraft's ender pearl cannon. They mentioned that the pearl travels so fast it skips multiple chunks per tick so they don't need to load them. Applying this to TNT, could it be possible to create an explosion behind a wall without damaging the wall itself?

    Cool video and great explanation! I just wanted to point out that this concept has been heavily explored back in 1.8 factions. We would typically use just normal repeaters and comparators to get that effect, and amplify it so that it reaches 20+ chunks. Try searching "factions tunnel cannon 30 chunks" ( or "30 Row Wall Remover" to see an example of one of the more advanced ideas you were hinting at ). But most telling of all is green, pink, blue, and red glazed terracotta + red, yellow, and purple hardened clay + dirt + combination of glowstone and pink stained glass + the fact I like to pack tnt in places it shouldn’t be injected from. But hey: if I can cram 60 stacks of tnt behind a payload every 6.3 seconds, with how weird my palette is and the most annoying reusable cobwebs ever: I can tell who’s been eying me. Unfortunately I no longer play due to having too much other stuff to do (hence the long passage of time for my reply). Besides: factions is dying, hack clients are better than ever, everything is pure PTW. I just don’t care anymore and now I get about 60 hours of my life (per week) back.

    Technical minecraft is like a long branch on a tree whose base is rooted in the gadget man ideaology. Mumbo often states that he is missing "something" that distinguishes himself as a technical player and I was simply trying to fill in the gap. His goals and ambitions are simply different, not better or worse.

    This did come accross as rather mysterious, I don't understand completely however given my observations I am assuming each TnT processes it's motion first then they schedule the explosion rays to form. So the TnT that is behind explodes launching the projectile TnT away then the projectile TnT schedules the blocks to be broken.

  • @cubicmetre

    @cubicmetre

    I learned quantum mechanics before I knew anything about Minecrafts subtick mechanics and honestly, it felt exactly the same. The subtick mechanics are just such a fundamental but arbitrary ruleset for how the simulation plays out and when you discover things like why a piston moving a redstone block into a piston takes 3gt to extend the second piston but moving that same block into a repeater has a total delay of 4gt it can often have these moments of just "why?". I tried to interpret subtick mechanics as every component residing in a quantised time state, and these quantised states have special rules for how they can interact much like fundamental fields. For example, you could think of the repeater field being a thing in minecraft and this provides a good analogy to design tilesets in wireless redstone. Because you can imagine this field being processed everywhere in the game at the same time in the tile tick stage, but then there are repeater states that result in symetry breaking of the field giving you access to multiple combinations of subtick repeater chains which define the channels for wireless redstone.

    I think non-classical would be a better term as it avoids confusing existing concepts with minecraft. With classical minecraft being the typical understanding of redstone, only for those perceived laws to be violated in non-classical redstone, I think makes more sense.

    This is a really cool concept that I believe was originally used for minecraft factions. We called them "Tunnelers" because of their unique property of exploding right after one another. Using what we in the factions cannoner community call "fraction ticks" you are actually able to make a really simple version of this, al you need is 4 repeaters one after the other, into some dispensers, and more dispensers that actually fire the projectile. In terms of it bending, that has to do with how the tnt is aligned, when it is dispensed, it dispenses on the opposite side of the block from the dispenser, however with a piston, you can align it however you want, and if you have the gameticks in the right order, you can make something that will just blow out an entire sheet in a single shot. Overall this is a really cool video, and I love that this is something being investigated outside of the factions community

    wiring 2 dispensers with different redstone components (comparators and repeaters) also makes this effect as in minecraft's ooe (order of entities) repeaters are calculated first, which makes something similar. people have been using this technique to make cannons in the past (tunnelers, nukes, aps etc), from what i've tested it still works in the new versions of minecraft, you just need to wire the power with repeaters, and the shot with comparators, every dispenser in the power is gonna have priority over the shot, then its gonna calculate its velocity and after that the shot's explosion. and about the 11:07 part, lining 2 tnt entities diagonally and placing one above the other on a non-full block (such as stairs, chains, walls, trapdoors, chests and others) altough their uses may vary, and some may be able to shoot farther than others, the way the position of the tnt is calculated depends on its position to the explosion, if placed diagonally, it's first gonna calculate the y axis, until it hits a block, then after either the x or z value after hitting a block (depends on the orientation) and then its gonna shoot into the wall, forming kind of a triangle hypotenuse or something like that (this is used in almost all modern factions cannons) this applies to any falling entitiy (anvils, sand, concrete, gravel, i haven't tested yet but maybe scafolding works)
