TMJ #3 Massage and Stretches for Jaw Pain - Intra Oral Trigger Point Work - TMD

Ғылым және технология

Time to take care of your TMJ with little to no risk of a flare up. This is a great video for those of you who have myofascial trigger points or have been challenged by other TMJ Exercises. You will learn, and practice, massage for your lateral pterygoid, medial pterygoid and masseter muscles. This can help with jaw pain relief, bruxing relief and even ear issues like tinnitus and eustachian tube dysfunction.
Intra-oral massage is a targeted therapeutic approach that addresses the intricate network of muscles involved in jaw movement, including the masseter, temporalis, lateral pterygoid, and medial pterygoid muscles. These muscles play crucial roles in chewing, speaking, and overall jaw function, making them prime targets for alleviating symptoms of temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorder or TMD. By specifically targeting these muscles through intra-oral massage, therapists can help relieve tension, reduce pain, and improve mobility in individuals experiencing TMJ-related discomfort.
The lateral pterygoid muscle, situated deep within the jaw, is particularly important in controlling the movement of the temporomandibular joint. Dysfunction or tightness in this muscle can contribute to TMJ symptoms such as clicking or popping sounds, as well as difficulty opening or closing the mouth smoothly. Intra-oral massage techniques can effectively address tension and trigger points within the lateral pterygoid, promoting relaxation and restoring optimal function to the TMJ.
Similarly, the medial pterygoid muscle, located on the inner surface of the jaw, works in conjunction with the masseter to facilitate chewing and jaw movement. Tightness or imbalances in the medial pterygoid can result in jaw pain, stiffness, and limited range of motion. Through targeted intra-oral massage, therapists can release tension in the medial pterygoid and surrounding tissues, helping to alleviate TMJ symptoms and improve overall jaw function.
The masseter muscle, positioned on the sides of the jaw, is one of the primary muscles involved in chewing and clenching. Excessive tension or overactivity in the masseter can contribute to TMJ pain, headaches, and muscle soreness. Intra-oral massage techniques, including gentle pressure and myofascial release, can effectively address trigger points and muscular tightness in the masseter, promoting relaxation and reducing discomfort associated with TMJ disorder. By targeting the lateral pterygoid, medial pterygoid, and masseter muscles through intra-oral massage, therapists can provide targeted relief for individuals experiencing TMJ-related symptoms, ultimately improving jaw function and overall quality of life.

I just did the exercises from the first three videos. My jaw was stiff and had a clicking sound when opening for many years. I couldn't eat normally. Now, for the first time in a long time, I feel no pain and can open my jaw wide. I feel blessed. And not only the exercises, but also your voice and the words themselves are therapy. From now on, these exercises will become my routine. Thank you very much for sharing your knowledge with the world :)

I have to say Dr. Fields, I literally cried doing this video with you because of pain .. I am a 61 yr old with an adopted 10 year old boy, taking care of an 89 yr old mother and 93 yr old father. Spending restless nights at my parents away from home, homeschooling, corona virus, hurricane and storm damage... you name it. I put myself last but finally made a ENT appt for stopped up ear, ringing in ears, lately headaches every day. STRESS. Didn't realize how much pain I was in until I did this video with you. What a Godsend. I feel better after doing 3 of your videos tonight, including this one. Your methods are FANTASTIC and so easy to follow, and the very places you work on is where my problem areas are.. I know because it HURTS! I have been praying for relief and God answered. I did not realize TMJ/TMD could cause stopped up ear and ringing. I may not have to go the ear doctor after all. I really, really think this is my problem. I had all kinds of crazy thoughts about what may be wrong with me, but your videos pinpointed where my pain was and I think YOU have diagnosed my problem for me. I can't tell you how GRATEFUL I am that you are providing these videos to help people like me. You are a gift and I LOVE your presentation, your demeanor and the peace I've felt watching you. THANKS so much! May God bless you and your family abundantly! BTW... will definitely be watching your neck exercise series! GOD BLESS YOU!

Adam's tmj exercises really help my neck pain from cervical degenerative disc disease. For me it's best to do them twice daily. I find if I don't exercise before bed, I wake up with neck pain. Fortunately, once I practice the exercises for ten minutes first thing in the morning I feel better. Starting to feel like I have some sort of control over my health. I appreciate his reminder that it is about self care. I've been doing his tmj exercises for two months now.

Same thing with me! I’m glad someone said it. Been super stressed, pain started by where my ear and jaw meet, then started radiating down my neck. Then the sore, strained muscles. Suffering for weeks with pain, then the lymph node under my jaw, and the one down by my ear lobe got puffy. Been to the doctor 4x in 3 months. Never said it could be TMJ. But just a few days ago the pain went to the other side as well, then that side was popping when I woke up. Then the headaches in the morning and soreness and tightness all around my neck. This is my second day doing these exercises… and doing them 3x a day. So glad I found this doc and these videos!

It takes a lot to change a cycle of tension, etc. Do 2 of the videos per day and look at the 7-Part Neck Relief Series also.

@@dradamfields Really appreciate your comment Dr., I am experiencing Eustachian tube disorder for over 2 months now, which started after doing push-ups without a warm-up. I have started Chiropractic treatment and I've been doing cervical retractions in sitting for some days now, after seeing two ENT doctors that didn't help. In your opinion and experience do you think Prolotherapy in combination with Chiropractic treatment is the way to go forward? Thank you so much in advance, your neck exercice videos have also really helped. I am living in Greece and resources are somewhat limited, so your opinion is definitely welcomed. Again thank you for your work and your amazing videos. All the best
