First of all, you have to remember that a pre-owned fridge is always a gamble. Buying a used fridge may become a big hassle and a waste of money. No one can guarantee that the used fridge you are buying will last 10-12 years especially if the warranty is already over.
Secondly, you need to apply common sense when buying a second-hand fridge and figure out the reasons why the previous owner would like to get rid of his used fridge.
Thirdly, move this newly purchased pre-owned fridge carefully and let it sit vertically and unplugged for 24 hours before you start using this pre-owned fridge.

Just picked up a big 10 year old fridge for 25 bucks waiting to plug it in as they say to let it settle after moving it. We will see but the door seal is a little weak but still decent I think we scored bigtime

Hi William, thanks for watching and thanks for the question. This type of the fridge is really nice one but most of the models are over complicated and stuffed with too many sensors/extra parts. As you can imagine the chances that something will go wrong are high. So if you are looking for reliability you may want to go with the boring French door fridge :)

Hi William, it all depends on your budget. If your budget is tight you may want to look at GE. If you are ready to spend more check out Bosch and Blomberg. If you have unlimited budget your best choice is Liebherr.

Thanks for watching and thanks for the question. I would stay away from Samsung fridges. They are just not good. I would recommend GE, Bosch, Blomberg

Thanks for the video. We bought a used Samsung fridge. It was working fine for a week but now there is a 40c/e error code and it won't let me do anything at all. :( Do you know what is wrong with it. I actually played around with the buttons yesterday to see how to change the temperature. I am not sure if that caused it. Thank you.

Hi Satie, thanks for watching and thanks for the question. Usually, this error code means issue with an ice maker chamber which is quite common Samsung problem which usually costs $300-$500 to solve. Try to defrost the fridge for 24 hours by unplugging it. In case issue comes back you better contact the seller and inform them that this issue was before you bought it, at least that what I would do in this case.

I have a 28 year old Whirlpool fridge. Last year there was water pooling on the bottom where my crispers were. The cause was a clogged drain hole due to water freezing around it. The technician chipped all the ice out and the problem was solved .. Until this year it happened again! Should I get a new fridge as I am afraid something is not working anymore ? Maybe the evaporator is slowly dying? After read the reviews on the fridges I am apprehensive to get one these days,. Should I just unclog the drain every year or take a chance on a new or used fridge?

Thanks for watching and thanks for the question. I know It’s always a dilemma - keep the old one or buy the new one. 28 years is impressive but I guess you will have more and more issues in the future. The drain system is a minor issue but could be very annoying. Eventually, it will be a new fridge anyway so it is just a matter if you want to shop now or may next year.

@@techvillappliancerepair3825 Thanks for the reply. The fridge is actually 22 years old. I was told plugged drain holes are a common problem across a lot of fridges. The repair person said I have unplug for 24 hours then he can take a look at it to permanently solve the problem. I have no backup fridge so my food will be wasted if I do that! I may look at it in the winter when I can stow my food in the cold garage. I think it mat be some debris in the tube? Fridge still works otherwise.

yes, it is correct approach - clean the drain would be a solution as they may be causing the issue

I unclogged the drain hole. There was a lot of ice in the drain tray and underneath the freezer tray. I am afraid this will happen again next year if I don't find the root cause. Fridge seems to be working fine now. Never happened until last year.
