I don't know anyone who runs 30, 40, 50 psi. I run as much as the tire will let me. Id say a bigger problem is bmx riders who put 80psi in stock tires that are only rated for 45-60 psi. I have seen a kenda contact tire literally explode. It bubbled up and while we where looking at it ( no weight on the bike) it sounded like a gun went off and blew a hole in the rubber. So make sure you don't cheap out on tires.

Bigfoot And Bananaman most tubes, or at least the ones I come across have a little powder on the outside and my tires aren't sticky on the inside, also because the tube has to take pressure and stretch to fit the tire it can gain it's shape from that bit of pressure without getting caught.

My local bike shop stocks tubes that are 3x thickness on the outside edge and filled with slime. They're heavier but I never worry about getting flats, NOT saying I run over glass on purpose but they do help. Another tip is to clean the old tube, cut the stem from the old tube and cut around the inside of it. Now use that to cover a new tube. This can cause pinch flats, so massage the tire with about 30psi when you're refitting.

Good tips. I had my first front tire blowout recently and I want to do everything I can to make sure it doesn't happen again. My air pressure was too low and I knew it, but didn't think anything would happen. Now I know better. Keep educating.

What kind of puncture was it a whole or a slice? I've been getting slices very small rim to tire, not Tire to rim. I have two layers of black strip and I'm still getting a flat. So tomorrow I'm going to pump up my tire the recommended PSI. And we'll see what happens

Kancer One didn't see the reply for ages but I have the vans x cult tires and as for tubes it doesn't matter I have any but then I ride at like 70psi and all of the smashed glass is either safety glass from bus stops and cars so it's small, not sharp pieces and if it's a smashed bottle the shards lay flat on the floor so they can't dig into the tire.

Sealant works wonders. The crew I ride with used to average one flat per ride. We tried slime and the stuff works. You'll hear a puncture, psst, psst, psst, psst, and then it seals up. Now we go months without a flat.

so pops your tube right when glass touches your tires? I run over glass all the time on accident and my tube has never popped from it. some tires are thinking than others so it's harder for things to go through them.

I knew when I ran over the glass but it was dark outside and I really didn't know how critical it was to stop and look. I was wanting to get home real bad. No way I'll do that again. If you run over glass, gotta stop right away. I didn't have a flat until I rode the glass into the tire a block down the road. I could have pulled the shard out earlier. I had to spend an hour in a dangerous very dangerous area. Finding the elevator to the bus stop on the freeway I also found a stolen purse and lots of strewn belongings of someone who obviously just got robbed. The bus finally came and already had two bikes on the front. What another hour wait? Got lucky and a guy with a bike got off. Dangerous looking guy but I was finally safe. It's much harder to put a heavy beach cruiser bike on a bus and harder still with a flat on that heavy bike.

Ryan another tip you should do when putting a new tube in is put baby powder on the tube. it helps it from sticking to the tire so if you do land hard or not as smooth as you'd like the tube will slip so it doesn't tare, I do this not just on my bmx bike but also on my dirt bike. and I love the vids and keep up the good work

My LBS says this is not a good idea. Maybe it's because they won't sell as many tubes if you do this.😀 My daddy taught me otherwise when I was a kid. He ALWAYS used baby powder and rarely did I ever get a flat!

I used my friends tube off his old bike but he only had the tubes for a month and only used it for 5 miles and maybe 2 months. Someone tried stealing his bike but bent his frame. I have been using the tubes for at least 6 months now. I do agree with not using old used tubes though. I inspect my rim for sharp edges and use electrical tape like you said but I believe I only have one layer. I didn't think about putting more layers to prevent the spokes coming through the layer of tape. I use gorilla tape or duck tape on my inner walls of my tires of my one bike. We have really bad roads and sidewalks and that's my go anywhere bike and that seems to stop thorns or small sharp objects from poking the tube. The tires are heavier but I haven't had a flat since. The tape might help absorb the shock of the cracks on the ground or I have just been lucky. I don't think it would stop a nail but maybe glass. I put 2 layers on the inner tire if you want to give it a try. My friends tubes could have been really good tubes though. I always have a bag on my bike with food and drinks so the tire weight isn't a big deal. It's a steel frame, so with everything, it's pretty heavy but I can keep up with other people on mountain bikes and the heavy bike gives me a great workout. Lol.

I like soft tires, because a hard Tire just smashes your hands when you land. Any comments on that give me a shout-out
