Tips on getting a PRCA Rodeo Photo Card
Getting your PRCA photo card is a very difficult task, and its not only limited, it is a lot harder than one would expect! It takes you earning a permit after you apply, staying alive for 5 events, and then showing up and capturing not only the rodeo itself, but everything that happens on the grounds after you have earned your card. Follow PRCA card holder Alex Menendez as he gives some tips and helps guide you through the process of the Professional Cowboy Rodeo Association photography card struggle.

Alex, great behind the scenes information on rodeo photography.
Great video! Thank you for putting this together. I shoot for NRA in Montana and love it! It's pretty cut throat though. I have shot NHRA, NASCAR, AMA Speedway and more but these photogs are very teritorial. I just keep shooting and submitting. Loads of respect for you and the rest of the PRCA photogs!
Thanks for the information, I'm Rodeo Photographer I respect the PRCA rules I do not have a card getting too old, but I wish they would respect my venues, but its all good
Good stuff, Alex!!
Good stuff!!!

Thanks so much.
Hurt the stock? They are coming to destroy you. I have climbed many a fence to escape a bull bent on tearing me a new one. Broncs? I stay out of the arena because they’ll run you over. Almost happened in homestead. Even a cute little calf will run you over, and then they’ll laugh for a decade. Great video my friend. See you down the road
Great video and info, thank you! What do you suggest is the best way to get portfolio content when you’re starting out? Can you shoot outside the arena if there isn’t a professional on the dirt? Hopefully this isn’t too silly of a question, I currently shoot ag and livestock so rodeo is something I will have to continue educating myself on but want to explore. Appreciate any advice and thanks so much in advance.

Try to cover as many rodeos as you can before you try for PRCA. Most smaller shows would love to have you, just introduce yourself ahead of time and dont just show up random...thats the hard part. Reach out and have fun!

AS of now the Canon R5. 70-200 2.8 is most used lens, use the 300 for Steer Wrestling. Happy Shooting!
So the people that sign off are the people you will be competing against. Makes NO since I’m just taking food off of their table. Hopefully you will get signed on. Some of you guys are pretty good but like Vegas the worst dealers work in the best houses. Let that sink in… Thanks and have a nice night.

You get it! Hard as heck to get, I did it without knowing any PRCA photogs, if you want it bad enough you may get it...sometimes its just as lucrative to shoot small non PRCA events.......actually most times.
