I’m going to give it a try myself soon. Next weekend there is an all day and maybe all night roping event I will go between using a d700 with a Tokina 28-80 f2.8 and a d500 with a Nikon 70-200 f2.8 It’s an indoor area so lighting will be consistent

Good video, yes light is often a problem with rodeo.... sometimes ya gotsss to work with what ya got. I was surprised at your F stop though, and I'm curious what lens you were using?

Hey Momma June! Unfortunately I threw my old 70-200 into my bag and not the 2.8!! Not enough coffee in the morning. So I was stuck with my old 70-200. F4 was as low as I could go. I wanted to get some background separation but.... I'm such an idiot!!! LOL

Awesome video! Phenomenal shots! Are these photos you posted cropped or are they the actual size?

Hey Ron, I was using my 70-200. If I remember correctly, I did have to do a little cropping in Lightroom, on a few images , but for other shots that day I didn't have to crop at all. (I'm not a photographer who is against cropping when needed.) I don't have a 400 mm lens so I do what I can with the equipment I have. I wish I did have a 400mm lens though!! LOL Thanks for watching! I got hooked 10 years back, and go all I can. even to the point when I ask the wife to go, she gives me a evil look. I have been using my 70-200 or 24-70 24-105 for smaller arena's I am here in North Carolina. Ron..@@photohuch

I've been taking some photos this afternoon and a bit of them are really good and the arena was covered so I was constantly swapping side tryna get the sun's light

Awesome! It can be tricky fighting the sun some times but a day shooting beats sitting on the couch!

If you're shooting barrels stay in one spot, don't move around. You'll find yourself with some pissed off racers. It's the angle part. One angle will always be better than the other. Find the angle you need during Time Onlies or Slack.. That way when the main show starts you are ready to rock!

First off , thanks for watching!! That's an awesome question. I'd say, rely on a "fast" lens, like a 2.8 if you can. You'll have to bump your ISO up do to the lack of light. It's similar to shooting hockey, ( I'm Canadian! ) You think there's a ton of light but for the high shutter speeds needed you' find out pretty quickly you'll need to bump your ISO. How much ISO and shutter speed depends on the Rodeo arena's abeyant light. Remember the faster the action the faster the shutter speed needed. A little trick I've learned shooting hockey, in arenas, is deliberately The balance of how much grain you have can get tricky. Hope that helps. Feel free to ask me more anytime . Cheers! Huch

I’ll be using a Nikon d500 with a Nikon 70-200 f2.8 I have a Nikon 200-500 f5.6 but for one thing it’s heavy and for another too much zoom I’m thinking The other camera will be using a 28-80 f2.8 tokina on a Nikon d700
