    because it's lacquer, can I wet sand it with like 1000 grit and then buff it like I would an automotive paint job?

  • @BradAngove

    @BradAngove

    Жыл бұрын

    Yes. My only comment on that is be careful wet sanding it if it’s on wood. Moisture can get in and swell the wood a bit, which will likely cause the lacquer to crack.

    Brad, when repainting a body should it be sanded down to the wood or just to the protective poly? Then whats the timeline with primer, my color and 2k clear? I was thinking applying primer 2-3 coats, let dry 24 hrs, apply color 3 coats, 10 min apart, let dry a week, then 3 coats 2k clear and let dry for a few weeks before sand/buff/polish.

  • @BradAngove

    @BradAngove

    No need to sand to the wood usually. You can use the existing paint as your primer. Then the timing depends on what paint you’re using.

    @bradangrove Hi Brad, I would like to pimp a guitar as a project for a KZread video on my channel. I actually want to decorate it with blue rhinestones, but I saw a video of someone who did that recommending to spray paint it in the colour of the rhinestones first. Seems sensible. I will be buying the guitar especially for the project, just in case it goes wrong 😅. Thought a blue one might save me the spray painting, but I can’t get the type of guitar I want in blue, so I will buy a second hand one (most likely brown) and then spray paint it blue. I would love some advice on this (and when I do it, I would be more than happy to link your account👍🏻😁). - as I have to go from brown to blue, would you recommend spray painting it white first or isn’t that necessary as I will be covering it all in Rhinestones anyway 😅? - I saw someone mention in the comments that it requires warm weather for spray painting, but I would love to do it in January. Unfortunately, it’s winter here (Europe). Would it work in the cold? Our flat isn’t that big and as I don’t want to poison anyone, I want to do it outside…. Sorry for the long comment, I didn’t know how to describe it shorter 😅. Best wishes, Carolyn

  • @BradAngove

    @BradAngove

    8 ай бұрын

    I’m not sure what kind of temperatures you’re dealing with right now, but painting in the cold is a bad idea. It won’t dry properly. Even painting outside in the summer can bit a touch risky. I would do a couple coats of white to start before applying your blue unless it’s a dark blue, in which case it will be easier if you do a black base coat.

    Brad, have a question for you I am painting a body a pearl white tri coat system with 2k clear. The body is basswood so I didn't grain fill so much, i did a little in bad spots that had tool marks or a lot of pores with drywall mud. I sealed and primed it with 2k epoxy primer. I have all the base and pearl on several coats each. Sanded it a bunch of times after priming sessions and the 1st base session. Im still seeing some small pores / divots in spots do you think the 2k clear would be enough to fill them in or should I sand it back some and redo the pearl first?
