Hi, If we use sico or Benjamin Moore primer and paint for a single car garage. how much quantity will be required? and is it necessary to do a coat of primer and not just paint it directly without primer?

What product would you recommend to fill the small space between the drywall in the garage and the brick foundation?

  • @TheCanadianHomePainter

Sorry , not sure I understand, do you mean the concrete? Or actual bricks ? In either case you want to make sure you use the right primer. Make sure that it says on the can that it is good for whatever surface you are painting, then after it is primed you should be ready to go over with your paint.

@@TheCanadianHomePainter Thank you! Sorry I wasn't clear. The bottom 2 -3 feet of my garage walls is a brick foundation. The drywall meets the bricks, but there is a 1" gap between the brick and the drywall. I am not planning on painting the brick. I only want to paint the drywall. But I was thinking maybe I need to caulk in that gap first? So it's more airtight.

@@coleydance oh sorry I also miss read your comment. Yes a good caulking should work. When you go to buy it tell them what your using it for and they should know at the store what to suggest, I know what I would use here, but there are many different products depending where you live.

Is there a wait period between primer drying? and painting? How many gallons of primer and paint is needed for 2 car garage?

Hi! Yes all paints have different recommendations for dry time and re coat times. And Also they will give a estimated square ft for how much coverages that brand gives. They are all different so I would suggest asking at the paint store or it should be clearly marked on the paint can. The primer I use I usually give it a about 4 hrs before I paint and I give the paint about 4-6 hrs before recoating, just to give you an idea but definitely check on the can because they all have different recommendations and some have more dry time and some have less , just depends what you go with

Sorry I am not sure I totally understand your question, if your paint says it is a paint and primer in one , I suggest getting an actual primer if you are cover drywall that hasent been painted, as for color, I have use many different colors in garages, a medium Grey seems to hide marks the easiest in a garage, i would also suggest using an eggshell finish in a garage for easy cleaning

I used a light gray in this garage, gray will hide any imperfections in the drywall taping and it's also nice to hide some of the dirt that garages get, I cant really tell you prices because they fluctuate around my area within 50 klm. You are best to call a local painter in your area to give you an idea of cost

Tobe honest, I don't know why that isn't more common here. For a garage it would be so much better to use plywood. I have only seen that in a few garages over 15 years of painting
