This video was released 6-16-19 It is 5-10-23 almost 4 years later and this is my dream style cottage garden. I have watched this video so many times. I have purchased a lot of these plants and as Laura says it can take years. I don’t have the roses. All 13 of the spearmint heucheras didn’t make it.😢 I think it is due to how rocky and old tree rooty my soil is even know I tried to remove as much as I could. I am loving the development of my area. I don’t have a fence. The year before I saw this video I had put in a whole row of arborvitaes. It is pretty in a different way…I put a wagon wheel in the corner and it added a nice charm to the bed. Mother’s Day is around the corner and told my husband that I would like a Lady Gardner Rose instead of a bouquet of roses. Last year I scattered cosmos seeds in the bare areas and it looked spectacular.
Laura, I really appreciate this type of video. I like how you sat down and talked to us about the basics of cottage gardens. I would love to see more instructional videos like this. With you as our teacher we'll all have beautiful gardens! 🌸🌿🌼❤️❤️

I may have already commented a few years ago...but I had to mention. The fact that you actually SAT DOWN and had a "CONVERSATION" with the viewers in the midst of your instructional video is what makes you magic Laura. I'd like to see an update of this area, as I have several of these plants but would like to see how they perform elsewhere. Thank You

Cottage gardens are absolutely my favorite type of garden. There’s just some thing about the whimsical nature of it that makes you wanna just stay in it for some time yknow? It’s totally my dream garden when I grow up.

Hello, how are you doing my friend
Couldn’t sleep last night and stumbled upon this wonderful video and fell in love with your garden and your presentation. I do NOT have a green thumb but I SO desire a garden like this one. My husband and I turned a barn into a home four years ago and for the past four years I’ve been working on one particular area that’s visible from the road - trying to make it aesthetically pleasing. I’ve planted several different things but nothing has satisfied me, and now I know why. The cottage style theme is what I long to create. Thank you so much for these wonderful tips. I hope I can bring it all together.
I just came home from a two-week vacation with limited Internet access, so I've been binge-watching Garden Answer videos ALL day. I regret nothing!

polkadottedpolak we were moving so I had almost no internet access so I feel you. I‘m watching GA videos the whole day already 🌻
Cottage gardens are my favorite. I need a little chaos in my garden. English gardens are pretty, but to me, cottage gardens are breathtaking.
I am a little late watching this video but wanted to tell you since we have a smart tv I have been addicted to you on our TV by KZread, of course!! We live in Aiken SC and are in a area of Sugar Sand....and we are native to Ohio; so what a difference!!....you help me so so much...right now I am fighting breast cancer and have 5 more treatments and then radiation.....we caught it in stage 2, Praise God....but OH, this changes our perspective of living....we are 70 and celebrated our 50th at the beginning of our Cancer treatment journey....so my hub buzzed my head 2 days later; as it was coming out in clumps....so when I can be in the sun again, I have so many plans for our farmhouse outisde....we also rennovated and added an addition to the house....I love how hard working you both are.....we lived in Lebaon Oregon area for a short time....LOVED SEEING MT HOOD ON A CLEAR DAY....AND THEN THE RAINBOWS!!!!!! WOW!!!!! GOD BLESS!!!
i just came across this video this am. We moved to our new home last fall and have been dying to plant some new items in our front flower bed. This helps me so much. Thank you
I have a cottage garden and I love how it changes from year to year. Every year there is a surprise.
Laura you sounds like an encyclopedia of all the plants, foliage and flowers that exist. The area you created is so pretty. 🌺🌻🌷🌿🧡
I've never heard of a cottage garden... until now. 😁 I'm super excited to realize that this is what I'm doing with my front flower bed without knowing it. 💖 I feel better knowing that I'll have "empty space" until my new plants have time to expand to their fullest potential. Patience is not my virtue, but I feel better about being able to enjoy each of the stages.
YESSSSS sit down and teach the kids. We need to knowwww. Great rules and love seeing it in action. Cant wait to see this garden fill out juxtapose to your more formal style!
This is probably one of my favorite spaces that you've done! I love everything about this bed and I am going to try to mimic it!! Great tips too! Thank you so much for the inspiration.

Agreed!! I have two beds with anchor roses already established but little else...now I know what to do with them 😊 I adore the cottage style! Thanks for the wonderful overall tips too.
You got a chair to sit down and I'm like whaaaaaat? Lol. You DO deserve a chair. You have an amazing amount of energy that we all wish we had.
I love all the rocks in the beds; they create a gorgeous transition. Can’t wait to see it at night.
This helped me feel a little better about how my cottage garden is coming along. This is the third season since we created our front bed (an 18'x20' triangle) and I was sitting here thinking I've really messed up. But each of your tips I'm like, "yup, done. Did that. Did that too. Oh, be patient? Okay." So patience (and shoving in more plants) it is!
Cottage gardening is my favourite style. Loved this!!
I love this style very low maintenance. When I think of this style I think black eyed Susan, poppies, coneflower, daisy, then foxglove and columbine
I’m just so anxious to follow some of your ideas in my garden I’d don’t know how i can wait till spring
What a sweet garden. I love the soft colors in a garden. But I also love the red roses . You inspire me to want to work in our yard. We have deer so I need to research what I can plant that the deer won’t eat..but still have color in the garden.
I love how Russell keeps popping up in funny places in all of your videos😂
Although this is about a year old, I chose to watch it for some ideas for in front of our house this year. I love the cottage idea, but I get a little insecure when it comes to combining colors and textures. I know what I like, but it doesn’t always turn out quite like I’d hoped. Thanks for this great video! Just love what you do! 💖
Really helped me. I now know what went wrong in my 'cottage' garden. ...especially, the 'soldiers ' throughout .
I found your channel a few weeks ago and have watched dozens of your videos, this one is one of my favs!!! I am new to gardening and couldn't quite piece together my style, but this NAILED it! I love the cottage style so much! So free & whimsical. I also have 3 large full sun flower beds that are almost completely empty, thanks for the wonderful inspiration! Can't wait to try some PW plants in my gardens.

Laura ~ I Love That You Decided To Continue The ' Pallet Walkway ' Beyond The Chicken Coop. This Entire Area Is So Charming ! I Can't Help But To Describe It As . . . French Country Chic' . . . Well Done My Friend !
These Tips were soooo helpful !!! :) I've been listening to lots of gardening videos on how to do a cottage garden and you are the first one who has explained everything I need to know to get started.Great Information. Thanks for info on spacing, that helps a lot !!
I missed seeing Russell in this video. He always makes me smile. Thanks for the tips and the lovely results of your cottage garden.
Saving this video. I keep wanting to make a cottage style garden that runs along my back fence and it keeps getting put off because it’s such a big space and I never have enough money to do it all. Your video just inspired me to get it started doing a small section maybe 10 feet and then expand the bed when time and money permits.
I love how the garden looks different at various stages. All beautiful.
Great video! Loved to see an explanation on how to plan a cottage style garden.🌺🌿🌸👍🏻❤️
This was one of my favorite videos! I love learning about the different styles of gardens (although I think Cottage is my favorite). The color palette is beautiful. I love how the garden is dainty next to the more rustic pallet walkway.
How does this gal keep up with all her ideas and life in general? She is amazing!!
You look so pretty sitting there in your little chair surrounded by 🌸
This is my favorite style of garden. They just seem to meander along to me. Love the color and plant choices. Beautiful garden already.
Thanks for the tips I love your garden Laura!!
I love the same things that you love I love the softer colors the pinks the blues definitely love the cottage look
I love your cat. I'm sure you hear that constantly. Girl I have spent so much money on plants and seeds this year because you show us so many beauties. I'm from Wyoming zone 4. It's still snowing here. With more snow on the way. Your show keeps me sane.
Love the cottage style gardening. It fits my gardening personality. I have had formal gardeners look at me like I'm a mess. So I taught them different styles.
Thank you so much for the cottage garden tips! Really enjoyed this video and learned a lot in a short amount of time. Thanks for all you do! Happy Father’s Day to Aaron! Hope it’s a great one! ❤️🌸
Cottage gardens are my favorite and it’s what I aim for in my garden...I love it
I ALWAYS wanted a cottage garden; but, it never came to pass. For all you other GA gardeners, if a cottage garden is the style you love and want, start on it as soon as you can! Don't be like me! When I became partially disabled, I had to put my plans for a cottage style garden on "the back burner;" but, it was ok because I was still young & was ok waiting. I settled for ordering & placing a large, metal, 3-panel trellis (for interest) off-center in a 25' x 7' bed. I was able to add 3 cllimbing roses in a fanned out pattern in front of & at the side of the trellis. I loved the way the deep pink roses looked against the silvery gray metal! When I had initially decided on the cottage garden style, I had planted a miniature climbing rose with clusters of delicate pink blooms, near one end of the bed with a pretty, metal, fan-shaped trellis to climb on. I added a purple clematis at that same trellis, thinking it was big enough to support both plants. I never dreamed the "miniature" rose would rocket to the eaves of my house and continue growing onto my roof! The clematis proceeded to use both the rose and trellis for support and I love that end of the bed to this day! That clematis had to be replaced quite a few years ago; but, the 2nd one also took off like a rocket! Several feet from that end of the bed, I had a lilac colored Rose-of-Sharon with a maroon throat planted. The opposite end of that bed was "loosely" anchored with a deep, burgundy-colored Japanese maple. I added a perennial hibiscus with large, white flowers on one side of the little tree. The bed makes an ell on the other side of the tree and I have a drift of seven, light bluish-purple hydrangeas there. The white hibiscus, 3 Lady's Mantles and a St. Fiacre' statue were the last additions I was able to make to the first bed of MY "cottage garden" My health took a much worse turn and houseplants are the only things I grow, now. So, gardeners, don't put off your dreams if you don't have to! It's true that tomorrow isn't a sure thing for any of us! I'm simply saying, don't wait or put off your dreams that you can make realities, today! Thanks so much for sharing your tips and new cottage flower bed with us, Laura! God bless you all.🌾💜

💞💞💞💞 I really loved this video not just because of the plants but the time you took to explain everything you where doing... would love to see more of this type of video!!!! Much love 😍😍😍😍
Love your videos! I love how you explain the whole process and your videos are so professional! The longer they are, the happier I am! I love everything about you and your family!! So sweet!💗
This is so beautiful. Now I can show this to my husband so he can understand what I want in the backyard. Thank you.
My garden center should be sending you commission on what I’ve run to find after I watch your videos. 🤓☺️. I love those allium!! I went berserk on catmint and Russian sage this year. The catmint has been spectacular and now the sage is starting to bloom so the pollinators are profuse! Thanks for bringing the gardener in me back to life, Laura and Aaron! 😀
Absolutely beautiful. I live for videos like this. You’re always so helpful. Each video is filled with good stuff, thank you! 🌷🌳🍃🌸
Cottage style gardens are my favorite. We’re hoping to have our house repainted in the next year or two, and then I would like to do a cottage garden bed along the front of our house. I just love the whimsy of it. ❤️
I just love how much you love plants.
Laura: This is so amazing. You put together a variety of colors that makes the garden pop out. Thank you for walking us through it.
I could watch you all day lol. You are always so informative and I have learned so much from you. 🌷😘
I really enjoy your videos and your style of explaining thank you Laura !
I don't have time for the formal garden style. I love a cottage garden. All you tips are excellent. I have incorporated plant and purchased products you have mentioned. And your videos motivate my husband.... Lol. Thank God for that.. xoxox
I put perennials in containers then plant them in my "extra" bed in late summer. After 17 years, I now realize I have a cottage garden! Love those roses and catmint!
I'm am learning exponentially with every video of yours that I watch. I'm one of 'those' people who loves to assimilate as much information as they can, so I'm hoping if I listen to these more than seventeen times I'll commit them to memory 🤣! It is so therapeutic to engage in any form of gardening, even if one only watches someone else do it, so you're being an immense benefit to those of us with anxiety issues, as well as folks who need gardening guidance. Thank you for all you do, and God Bless. 💜🕯🙏🏻

I have watched this video many times , this is my dream one . I really would like to see how this cottage garden now how it look likes as this video was taken years back.
Toronto Ontario Canada...Hi Laura, there are so many wonderful things to say about you that everyone else has already mentioned. A few being thank you and you are adorable. I am from Toronto Ontario Canada. 😉 I found you through a KZread channel that I have been following for a few years. At home with Nikki. You must must look into her. She does not like gardening but your Technique in the placement of plants before starting is what caught her attention. She is a home and Business organizer and has a pet KZread channel as well. She is second-to-none and completely off the chart in organizing. Because of her mentioning your site is how I found you. I am sharing your KZread channel with all my clients here in Toronto Ontario Canada and some of them are already calling you there Guru. I do not know Nikki as she is in the states and I am in Canada but she just recently did a video on a front garden and she has used your Technique and mentions you. One last thing, 4 days after I started following you Channel I received my new gardening Magazine and there you were. Amazing how it all works. Thank you thank you thank you and all the best to you and your beautiful little family.
Loved this one!!! I found it super helpful and very inspiring 💕🌱👍🏻👍🏻😍 and those roses with the catmint 😍
Good information about cottage gardens. I really enjoyed it. Love the beauties you planted.
I wish I could take you to my local Home Depot or Menards so you can pick for me 😅 it can get overwhelming for me. But it is a beautiful garden. I have a concrete bench and for years I've been thinking of doing a small cottage garden behind it and also around it with a bird feeder. I just need to get the ball moving.
I absolutely love this space Laura. Thanks so much for sharing!
We just put in a cottage garden and I so wish I had watched this video first!! You gave some great info, if we end up making any changes to ours in the upcoming years, I’ll be sure to follow some of this advice!
Omg sooo nice 👍 I really want a cottage garden! They are soo neat 😆❤️🌱🌷🌹🤗🌲
I love the birds eye view at the end. You have a beautiful property!
I'm just planning a garden bed like this! Thank you for an inspiration!
