Thank you for detailing the process you use to kill the trees when you can't fell them. Too often, the safety aspect is practiced but not emphasized and the viewer thinks they always have to fell. Thanks for being safe and setting such a great example. Good luck this fall

Good tips on habitat improvement...timber felling technique was risky. The first hickory he drops "barber chairs", which is extremely dangerous, because he did not bore cut and simply cut from the back...essentially the fibers are tearing up the tree, which can happen rapidly. Not a fan of the domino, double drop either. Then the one at 4:30 spins off the stump due to poor hinge width (or no hinge?). Be so careful out there, guys. If you haven't had actual, certified training in timber felling you should go and get it done. Highly recommend Game of Logging certified instruction; It will save your life.

How far should you place your bedding areas away from a food plot? And how far should you place bedding areas from other bedding cuts?

Each cut, plot, farm is difference but we tend to try and keep cuts more than 50 yards away but sometimes it’s 150 yards away. We also keep the cuts about 200 yards or more away from each cut

How do you guys recommend getting comfortable with burning? Are there training courses or resources other than KZread / internet?

About how big are the bedding cuts that you all cut?

The bedding cuts on this project were 1/4 to roughly 1/2 acre cuts. The size of these cuts is very site specific. But, if you manage 15-20% of your timbered acres with bedding cuts, TSI or a combination of both, that is a good starting point for most landowners. Hope that helps!

So do you just leave the trees on the ground or do they get removed?

We leave them on the ground. It provides cover for the wildlife
