    this happens to mountain goats all the time. But you can imagine, they’re all out in the wild and it’s most likely almost certain that no one would trim them. so they’re stuck helpless, their own horns slowly seeping into their heads. this is why we need to send out more rspca teams out in the wild to find these goats and potentially rescue them.

  • @lemolea9571

    @lemolea9571

    Not even rescue, just tag and trim them occasionally. But their horns have done this for a long time and they aren't extinct so as horrible as it is, it can't be that much of a problem. I'm pretty sure I've seen a deer skull with an antler poking into the brain area. Makes me wonder if that killed them or something else.

    The fact that this is a normal cause of death in wild goats is terrifying edit: I know they usually rub their horns on rocks etc to avoid it. My point is that when it sometimes does happen in the wild there are no humans to save them, and after a certain point they'll be unable to save themselves too. It must be terrifying having what was meant to be your defense mechanism, slowly turn to be your doom

  • @KoraOSRS

    @KoraOSRS

    27 күн бұрын

    @@sauravnarayan5077 Alright so first things first, the phrase "the use of sophisticated concepts of physics like capillary action in our anatomy" literally doesn't mean anything. "Capillary action" in physics is absolutely not the same thing as "capillaries" in biology... The former is a property of how fluids flow in narrow spaces, the latter are responsible for delivering blood, nutrients etc to cells around the body. Also talking about capillaries as "anatomy" further demonstrates a poor understanding. With all of that out the way, no I'm not ignoring successful mechanisms in nature, there are many extremely impressive and successful mechanisms in nature. But for everything in nature which works well, there are 10x more which absolutely do not work at ALL, these goat horns are just a very obvious and tragic example of this... This is one key piece of data in favour of evolution. If we theorise that evolution is indeed the means by which organisms have come to be X way rather than another, then we would absolutely expect to see many examples of "trial and error", given that evolution is a process which occurs through _random_ genetic mutation over thousands of generations. And lo and behold, we see goat horns which have unfortunately evolved to be deadly to the goat itself (without human intervention of course...) Point is, this is just a comically obvious example of how the argument for intelligent designs makes no sense. You misunderstand my point, because I'm not pointing this out as like the ONLY example of "bad designs" where otherwise everything else in nature is perfect- that is far, FAR from the reality. Like I said, for each example you can pick out of seemingly 'perfect' features or mechanisms in nature, there are dozens, or even hundreds of very, very bad mechanisms. At the end of the day, with evolution, we actually expect to see "bad design", because we understand that this is exactly how evolution works. Random genetic mutation which is either favourable or unfavourable for the survival of the species. Seeing the result of both in nature is totally normal and expected. On the other hand if we theorise intelligent design to be the explanation, this entails a designER, who made deliberate choices, with agency and logic behind these "designs". It becomes much, much less easy to justify the presence of SO MUCH bad design in nature when the claim is that an all loving, all powerful, all knowing god is behind all of biology, nature, etc... Or, well, either that or God is just an ass who deliberately designs creatures and organisms with massive flaws which result in a boat load of pain, suffering, and death. 🤷‍♂

    In the wild, it'd have ground down the horns itself by rubbing against stuff, or defending itself. That's the issue with domestication, it prevents natural instinct, and removes the animal's requirement to use it's naturally provided tools of self defense, for well, self defense. Same with how cat/dog/rabbit owners know trimming their pets nails is a good thing, and that it's only people who've never had a pet who think it's abuse. In the wild, cats and dogs would grind their own nails via climbing, hunting etc. That's why nature designed the horns/nails to constantly grow.
