Tip for equalize/balance in textures in Photoshop for better seamless tileable textures + freebies

Sometimes your texture is almost 100% seamless and tileable. But small differences in light and shadow easily show that this is a tiled texture and it's a 3D image. As humans we always look for patterns and they are easily spotted and by equalizing the texture you make it more believable.

    Concise and straight to the point 👌 I should be able to reproduce this also with Affinity Photo. I am struggling a lot with fabric textures for this exact reason, so thank you so much for sharing this!

    Hi Jørgen, This is a great tutorial. Quick and precise. Tusen Takk. I am currently trying to fix an image where the brighter parts need to be equalized with the darker ones. Kind of the other way around. I can't find a solution for this. Any suggestion?

  • @jhalanddesign

    @jhalanddesign

    The magic in the sauce is in the highpass filter, so try to see if you can adjust that so it equalize those parts. Could be also possible to invert the highpass and test that. It's a long times since I've needed to use this technique so not totally sure what's the best way.

    Hi Jorgen! One question please: if I balance the lighting as you show, do I loose any details on the original texture (f.e. some sharp parts of the original texture can become blurry)?

  • @jhalanddesign

    @jhalanddesign

    Жыл бұрын

    Sorry for the late response. Holiday. Yes, that could happen, that it become to soft. This is mostly to get rid of the darker corners and make everything flatter. So I would mix both textures if you want to keep some of the details.

  • @itailu
    @itailu11 ай бұрын

    nice. what does one do when most of the detail is in the lightness channel and the image becomes gray?

  • @jhalanddesign

    Sorry for late reply I guess you've moved on to other stuff :) But you can try high pass filter to see if that fixes the problem.

    Anyone know how to do this with gimp or krita? I've tried with both. In gimp, when recomposing back to RGB, the image is wrong colour. With Krita, converting back to RGB, the image keeps the high pass state.
