Tip - 295: How to move and rotate a single MoGraph clone with viewport handles in Cinema 4D

Фильм және анимация

In this Quick Tip, Jonas Pilz shows you how to move and rotate a single MoGraph clone with viewport handles. You will learn how to use the Formula effector to address a specific clone and attaching it to the effectors position and rotation. This is a useful technique that gives you very precise control over a single clone.

*Tip for everyone! If you want to move multiple clones in one formula effector just use + and add another id. Example (id=4 + id=5 + id=6)

My thoughts after 2 years. You guys should really implement a way to easily transform clones around. Without mograph selections. Think a "Transform" effector that holds mograph data per each individual clone, such as transforms but also visibility, modify clone, etc. Operated with move, scale and rotate but the effector stores the information. Additionally, a some kind of a brush tool could be used to smear clones around, pinch them, bugle them, twist them, scale them and apply other properties for a high degree of artistic control, a natural evolution for the MoGraph Weight Paintbrush tool. Basically the equivalent of having hundreds of Plain effectors with corresponding MoGraph selections if the user wants to reposition each clone around manually. All that in a single effector. I mean, I guess that's what the Scatter Pen does. But having a similar functionality in the Cloner would be big.

In case someone is trying this in r2024, use plain effector and Formula Field instead

Nice to have that feature but certainly everything could happen automatically behind the scene. Why not to use a simple tool like Free Transform Clones or some sort of Expand option from the menus, then you can use regular transform tools.

This is a great tip! I'm wondering how would I change a specific object with this or another method? Say I have 9 #s (objects) and a sphere under a cloner and wanted to target the sphere to show only in a specific place (instead of one of the other clones)

What if we wanted to move a large range of clones though? Like several hundred in a cloner of many small objects? (like a row of them?)

Wow so much hidden stuff. Great software. Hope we can use better character tools and a little better and more stable integration with ZBrush (or better sculpting tools) this year. And x-particles included in the core software 🤘...with these, cinema figth hand to hand with maya and Houdini (great softwares but...ugggh the interfaces)

If i wanted to use variables, formulas and math id be using Houdini full-time and Cinema 4D part time not vice versa... hahaha... but good to know this can be achieved Houdini style with 10 steps instead of 2... say by using a MoGraph Selection and a Plain Effector... Im not hating though... I loveth me some C4D quick tips... All day everyday...
