You're comparing a welded boat (Grizzly) to a riveted boat (Alumacraft), hence the higher price and thicker hull material in the Grizzly. A better comparison would've been the Alumacraft MV1650TL which is a welded Jon boat.

True welded vs riveted. That’s why the hull is thicker and double the price. Also the alumacraft has a max hp of 35 but they said they put a 30 on it? Something is confusing and isn’t adding up on the engine for that one

Through my recent deep dive into these exact boats, lots of stuff like this are popping up. 2 years since you did this, shit is still relevant today, not aged a minute. I've studied and compared everything out there on the market I can come across and the Griz 1648, which is dead nuts on what I want, it wins all day long. Keep building it the same way and don't change. It's perfect in that slot where it fits. And it's built to last. I've had a couple Trackers, currently a Tourney 170 bass boat and I'm looking for my last downsize that I can go anywhere with elec or 9.9 (secretly 20) Suzi on those under 10 lakes. and, still get there on the bigger ones in a blaze. very cool to discover all you cats in the tiny boat craze, super cool and lot of education!

I am running a Lowe 1648 MT 1995 and run a 2004 30hp Johnson my Lowe weight was under 300lbs when new. Ideally a .080 hull with a .100 transom would be ideal. I paid $1200 for my Lowe in 1995 and I fish and Duck Hunt out of it and Duck hunting is hard on a boat. Just FYI get one stuck in the mud and you would not want a 600 lbs boat to hand pull out. Yes I have done this several times in my life. I do not abuse my gear because when hunting the Mississippi River around thanksgiving water temp 34F air temp in the teens 17-19F in the morning when launching you want to go out and come home at the end of day.

Was in the market for a tin boat back first of the year. Really liked the Grizzly series. Wanted a slightly bigger one. Side console with a sixty Hp. You don't find many on the used market. If you do they are gold. You are spot on about the resale value. Grizzly may be the best boats Tracker sells. I'm sure they will find a way to screw that up. Ended up with a 2018 175 TF Tracker W/60hp. Got it for a very fair price. Well,,,,, it floats, and I ain't fishing from the hill no mo' !

I wanna do a tracker build, seems like people are getting 30mph out of them with a 30hp motor. just want something that’s going to be cheap to maintain cheap to tow and easy to fix. Bass boats are just to expensive and you have to worry about so many things on a fiberglass boat. I get that it’s stable and once in the water it’s going to be much more comfortable but I like the thought of having everything new and not having to worry about being broken down on a used boat.

Cameron, I agree, my 08' Grizzly 1860 CC with 40HP Merc has never failed me since I bought it new. I have filled in area between the console and front deck in for more storage and front deck room and have seriously dented the bottom on stumps but yet to break a weld of punch a hole it it. Bass or Reds it's great for fishing and duck hunting here in Eastern North Carolina is right on track for this boat. Thinking seriously about buying a 2070 and building that for my next boat. Of course I'd keep the 1860 too.

I bought my 1648 tracker used years ago, it oil canned broke like over a dozen hull welds. I just opened the bottom put 9 6061 t6 extruded structural aluminum braces down on the spine and many extra support pieces down. Paid a professional tig welder to weld in the braces etc. The boat won't ever need to be worked on again, it's built like a tank. These early grizzleys have major design flaws, the head engineer of structural design must have been drinking a lot. Glad I didn't give up and just sell my boat or scrap it.

I have a 1648MV as well. Built a side console for it and have an older Johnson 50 on it. Run close to 40mph. I'm about to get a new Tohatsu 50 or 60 (lighter than the most current 50 e-tec). I try to take it easy in the rough stuff because it's just hard on everything. Even a welded boat I'd take it just as easy. It is a stiff little boat, even at top speed nothing is flexing. And I don't just fish out of it, it's my duck boat and we get rough on them sometimes. Don't regret my boat at all!

I bought a brand new 1754 grizzly in 2011 the idea of the boat is awesome put a 4 foot deck extension added a rod locker and 2 tackle storage compartments with one sheet of plywood and some sheet aluminum kept it light added a very small simple console and a used 50ph 4 stroke I love the idea, layout and how cheap it is to run but the boat has cracked many times on the hull, the transom, and the stringers in the boat as well. I don’t purposely run the piss out of the boat when it’s rough I slow down. The quality of the welds is absolutely crap. If I could do it over again I’d try to find a better built boat and probably an 1860 for more stability.

When i got 110lbs thrust then was i business and spot locked was a different world of fishing. I beat the hell out of my polar kraft between duck hunting and fishing and at the end of the day I knew it wouldn't brake and wasn't scare of rough water. Where I run my gambler in for rough water I would run my polar Kraft. Only different is my ass got kick and gambler has a nice ride.

I have a 07 grizzly1648. Hope you like cracked ribs on a lightly used boat. I dont know about alumacraft. Just talked to neighbor down the cove with new tracker bass boat. Says he has 14 different leaks in it. Just trying to pass along some truth.

Having dealt with Tracker's customer service I would warn everyone not to buy a Tracker and I would not buy the thinner aluminum Alumacraft either. Who wins, either manufacturer that cons consumers into buying either of these boats!

Back in the late 80's I bought a Tracker TX-17 with a 45hp Mariner. After one season of use the boat started leaking. I took it back to my dealer and replaced a missing rivet and siliconed two loose rivets. The following season I developed a rip in the aluminum. Called the dealer and they said to call Tracker. Tracker said to bring the boat to Missouri (I live in Michigan). I took it to Missouri and they TIG welded the rip and all the leaky rivets which at that time was about six. The following season I developed another rip in the aluminum, called Tracker and they basically told me I was on my own. To sue a company across state lines costs way more money that you could ever recover, no lawyer would take the case on contingency so it became obvious to me I was just fucked! Moral of the story, don't buy on the cheap, and Tracker does NOT stand behind their products and I would highly recommend people avoid their products. As a side note, the local guy I got to TIG weld any issues I had told me the boat did not have enough bracing and the hull was flexing and that was what was making the aluminum rip and the rivets to become stressed.

Well it’s pretty obvious you’re jot a fan of Alumacraft. Also would have made sense to compare the welded versions.. the Grizzly is the most notorious boat for having horrible craftsmanship. I have had both and prefer an Alumacraft. Tainted review IMO

Alumacrafts don't break. I've never seen an aluminum boat break. Compare the speed and gas mileage. I have an old 16 V Hull StarCraft SS. It's riveted lightweight alum as well. It glides with my 30 HP Suzuki.

Tracker voids warranty on aluminum boats if you use them in salt or briny water. It’s buried in their warranty claims. Alumacraft does not care where you use their boats. I owned an alumacraft V 14 for 30 years with no.issues with salt water, briny water or even fresh water. It’s not the thickness it’s the grade of aluminum used. I used mine on gravel bed and beach on the ocean, rocks in Lakes and rivers all over southern USA. I hit a lot of rocks on rivers and dragged it over gravel and sand on the beach. It bent bottom a little but fixed real easy with a hammer and piece of plywood. It took me all around key west and survived on the hook. You can keep your Trackers cause I ain’t buying one from a manufacturer that hides it’s exclusions. Something is wrong with a boat the mfg does not trust In saltwater…
