Tiny Tales Galore! | Craigslist Pet Ads | Munchie's Place

Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

Welcome to the CL Pet Ads where we will evaluate care shown in these ads and discuss with you the good and bad pet husbandry. We will bring up valuable points, what works for the pet, mention what could be improved and discuss a species needs. The focus in these new videos will be about educating instead of reactions to encourage the viewer on learning more about the pet and to showcase #ThinkAdoptionFirst. Not everyone will bring their small companion to a shelter or rescue. Many choose to list still on Craigslist. There are hardly any rescues or foster homes for small pets like hamsters, so maybe you'd like to help out your small pet community after seeing this video? Who knows, maybe you'll make a different in the lives of pets and people.

I adopted gerbils that lived in a tiny critter trail, now they live in a giant tank with loads of bedding. It's worth adopting because you can take a pet from a bad situation and give it a better life, doing that feels amazing!

I've always been told that dwarf hamsters should only be together if they're litter mates...making me wonder HOW people even manage to put two of entirely different species together without one killing the other. Completely unrelated venting...but when I saw the add for the "Race car hamster cage oh also there's a hamster inside" I was reminded of a problem I had a few years ago... I had a neutered male rabbit and was in the process of buying a female. The plan was to bond them and keep them together however she was not spayed when I got her (which rabbits really should be, doesn't really help that only one was neutered as the other one could easily become hormonal and aggressive) so I needed somewhere to keep her while she was recovering from surgery. SO I needed a second cage. I looked around on Facebook and Finn (Basically Norwegian Craigslist) and even asked my friends if they knew someone who were selling or willing to lend me a hutch. One person did send me a link to an add of a decent looking hutch...with another rabbit inside... When I pointed this out to her she just said "Oh you can just take that one too!" Yeah great, instead of having two rabbits that can't be together and one hutch I would get three rabbits that can't be together and two hutches...still doesn't add up... If you want to sell an animal say you are selling an ANIMAL, not a CAGE. The pet is not a cage-accessory! (In case anyone wonders what happened with my rabbits, I ended up building a makeshift cage out of a playpen and a dog-house. The female had her surgery, it went fine and they were happily bonded a few weeks later.. Since then I've bought a collapsible dog-crate so that I always have a spare cage if I need one.)

Just updated my son's turtle cage from a 20 gallon to a 40, and man what a happy turtle. We are going to get the same tank for my daughter but I will make a mod to it and remove the front Glass cut it down to make a 7 inch piece for the bottom and build a glass door set up so she don't have to go though the top and go though the side. She will be happy and so with Nathan, the hammy.

I found an advert where a girl wanted to rehome her dwarf because she couldn’t get the hamster tame, I told her that the hamster could be stressed because of the small cage, and she agreed but said she couldn’t afford a new enclosure so was stil rehoming the hamster. But she was very positive. You learned me to approach these people with kindness 🙂

I really want to see Munchie review Tiktok videos that involves hamsters and rodents alike. I come across so many videos that just make me uncomfortable. And people try to justify the animal’s living situations. So many people are housing their hamsters in small cages. And one girl is housed her hamster and rat together. 🙃 Someone needs to educate these people.

I once saw this post on an Amino where this person had the smallest, square-shaped cage ever. Like this thing was so small the Tiny Tales cages seemed like a GIANT to it. No bedding, bottom was just bars, and at least 5 of them housed together. And some of them had scabs, and the only enrichment those little babies had was a tiny wheel and a water bottle and food dish. And the worst part about it was that the person saw nothing wrong with it! All they were doing was posting about how cute they were and NOBODY saw anything wrong with it either!

Thanks to watching Munchie’s videos I got my ham from gumtree for £10 for her and her cage which was a 360 sq inch gerbilarium with no wheel, wire ramps and levels and really crappy food. My ham, who I named Moose, is the loveliest thing ever and I’m so glad I got her from where I did because I really feel like I have given her a better home (she now has a 1600 sq inch cage, a 12 inch wheel and a homemade food mix). Basically my point is, you can usually get hamsters a lot cheaper as well as improving the short life of such a beautiful and neglected creature :) moose is also so friendly, healthy, happy, has never bitten or shown any aggression to me, let’s me pick her up, she loves new cage setups and she loves to come out every night to free roam in my room, and puts herself back in her cage when she’s done :) thanks munchie for inspiring me to rescue my gorgeous little friend.

I've adopted most of my guinea pigs from Kijiji (online ad here in Canada). Is always sad when you see tiny cages, comments about the kids aren't interested in the pet anymore etc. I always get scared for the pets who are up for free. I am always surprised people cannot commit to a hamsters life span. Like seriously? You cannot keep your hammy happy for 2-3 years.

There were some people in the pet store buying a hamster ball for a hamster they already had, and I’m very non confrontational and shy, but I still told them they were bad for their feet and don’t even actually let them explore and they actually didn’t get mad like I thought (cause some people do get mad if you try to help them and tell them certain things aren’t good) and they asked me what to do to let them run around and I told them they could let the hamster just free roam or make a playpen out of card board boxes or out of those thick foldable poster boards and I saw them actually getting poster boards at the target next to the pet store after that.

It’s so frustrating that people would rather pay for everything they can get all at once even if it’s not appropriate because they’re too lazy or cheap to buy the right products and then it’s also frustrating when management doesn’t listen about how gerbils need so much bedding or that the birds need different enrichment items. It’s so painful😅

hey someone should do something where they make diy cages for hamsters. then they should get correctly sized wheels, food, food bowls, a water bottle, a detailed care guide, and everything else you need to properly care for a hamster. Then they put it all together and sell them online for like $50-75 at the most so that it's affordable and sell it as a kit. Then people would be able to get the supplies to properly care for a hamster for a very affordable price. If anyone actually did this they would need quite a bit of money and time obviously but it would be really great for new hamster owners.

My experience showed me a lot of pure Naivety, and a bit of ignorance in people about the care of the little critters. Culture and commercialized ideals are a point we can place most blame, and we can show people how much better the relationship with the pet can be with more info and understanding of the animals wants and needs.

I found an ad for a "make dwarf hamster" in a crittertrail, that was very clearly just a malnourished syrian. I tried to save it, but as soon i talked about just buying the hamster so I didn't have to pay the ridiculous $80 for everything they ghosted me... I wish the best for that little guy. So sad people can have a pet and literally not even know what it is.

i have to say i just love your hair!! do you dye it yourself or get it done professionally? the color is fantastic! i'm more of a rabbit person myself - i just have a preference for slightly larger animals - but it doesn't really matter in my case, because i'll be living with my parents for the next several years at least and they won't allow me to get any pets (and especially nothing rodent-adjacent!) while i'm here. i love learning about animal care though, and i love seeing well-cared for animals!

In the first ad is it possible it isn't cereal but instead a hamster treat like the Tropical Carnival Hoops?? Still excessive, just like the peanuts, but possibly not AS bad as just straight up putting cereal in there.Of course, it could totally be cereal, but here's hoping it's a legitimate hamster treat

  • @MunchiesPlace

    @MunchiesPlace

Tropical Carnival Hoops only come in certain colors. This was cereal as there was blue. Blue dye is avoided in Tropical Carnival since its an unnatural dye. Red and purple can be obtained more naturally. You can also compare the texture of both. Fruit loops are not smooth vs Tropical Carnival and are not as dense because they're light and fluffy for milk.

I wonder if you could hand make a sort of treadmill, one that's short enough to easily fit in a bin with tons of bedding, but long enough to give them space to run, while preventing them from even getting the risk of curving their backs because it'd be a straight line. I wonder if they would use it if it you could make it

Why don’t people research how to care for small animals?! It’s aggravating seeing animals in small enclosures or wheels that can cause them pain. My first gerbils I researched everything. I asked my parents for a book (was in school at the time) and didn’t get them for several months later until my parents were happy I knew enough. My degus I have now was the same. Ordered a book a week before getting them and spent two months researching things like what they eat, enclosure size and even woods that are safe for them to chew. It’s not hard!

Maybe I can give some tips for people whos hamster has escaped (they are lifted off tips for escaped snakes, but some might work for small animals again): - put out water dishes and little piles of treats around the walls and especially next to things they can hide like shelfs or couches - check them maybe once or twice, best in the evening or night - place some hides around your room, check them at daytime - if you are sure they escaped the room, try putting things like flour at the doorway of each room. That can give you a good idea of which direction they travelled

I don’t know if this is all Petsmart’s now or just my local one, but I finally checked my local Petsmart since moving.. and I was pleasantly surprised.. all their hamsters alone in each of their tanks. The little placards for every breed of hamster said they are solitary animals. This made me so happy. One step in the right direction, now to get rid of the god awful cages marketed towards hamsters.

As a Biology major, I can tell you that depending on how closely related and physically compatible they are, different species can breed and create hybrids. I don't know much about small mammals, I'm more a reptile person, but I have found rattlesnake hybrids of two species just in the wild while out looking for reptiles, prairie and diamondback. Hybrids can be usually pretty unhealthy, so it's not really a great situation... For the house with the male and female of separate species.

I have a rescue ham right now and he has a 29 gallon bin cage. He is not mine but at the rescue he was kept in a cage smaller than a tiny tales or crittertrail. I give him proper food now and he has an 8 inch wheel along with a few hides, toys, and 3 inches of bedding maybe more. I have no idea of this care he got before me, but he is always itchy, red skin, he is a dwarf and does sit on his wheel. But his back is very hunched and I'm scared he has arthritis. He doesnt run on his wheel, if he does its him getting on then off. I dont want to give too much bedding so I dont waste it if he has mites. I am not sure what to do with him. I already have a Syrian in a prevue 528 and cant keep him but so much longer. I just wish I knew what was up with him

When I was a kid my brother had a pet gerbil and I had a pet hamster. We had the same shitty tiny colourful cage like those crittertrail things or whatever, idk what it actually was tho. Anyway one day his gerbil chewed through the plastic, escaped, and we found out bc our pet cat WAS TRYING TO CATCH HIM. (They were in the closet and the cat knocked over some shit making some noise, so we went to go see what was going on) Luckily we managed to save the poor thing, but yea. I think our mom just duct taped over the hole 😑 The gerbil escaped two more times before its untimely demise. Btw it was named Crapper bc it pooped a lot on the way home. I'm not even kidding. My then 7 or 8yo brother legit named it that.
