Tiny Synths Epic - 'A Petite Retreat' on Roland S1, NTS1mk2, Volca FM2 & Beats + VMix10

Support me on Bandcamp here (new albums every 2 weeks) - garyphayes.ban...
The opening 7/8 sequence on the NTS1mk2 alongside the choppy synth FM2 and LFO driven S1 is a soft homage to Steve Reich's Music for 18 musicians of course (not the Tangerine Dream copy 'Love on a Real Train' - composed for the film that Steve Reich turned down but the producers wanted something similar so asked TD !) ... in part 2 & 6 of my piece it turns a little 'Love on Real Train' for sure ...
Always a challenge with these small synths, the S1 particularly is not brilliant for 'flow' but am getting my head around the little sequencer on the NTS1mk2. Also FM2 doesn't have too many sound adjusters to play with on the fly, so most of these are slightly amended presets. The sync goes from Beats to FM2 to S1 and finally NTS1mk2. Audio of the main 3 instruments goes to VMix10 and then stereo out of that into the NTS1 where delay, reverb and of course it's own built in sequencer is added. Captured onto a Zoom Q8n4k.

Sounding very good there, nice one 😁 I picked up an S-1 recently, it's stunning what Roland have managed to cram into that tiny box with such great sound, very impressive indeed. I'm surprised I've never heard of the VMIX-10, it looks like an ideal solution. I've become mildly obsessed recently with portable setups on a track which I bought a Bastl Bestie for. They're less well spec'd and more expensive, but at least they're smaller and battery powered I suppose 😅

Cool, thanks CLM - yes all of these (incl vmix) are running off two USB battery packs, i am using some earthing adapters to keep the volca cross noise down. Agree the S1 is very flexible, just need to spend more time with it to be more seamless in longer jams.... the Bastl looks very nice but I specifically wanted one to pan mono sources across the stereo field ...

Nice sounding piece Gary, getting all those juicy sounds out of such a small system. The NTS1/2 looks like a nice piece of kit. Very enjoyable.

Love this. It has a Tangerine Dream “Love on a real train” vibe! Is it difficult to play the Roland - looks tight.

Thanks Jodo - yes TD's LoaRT of course ripped off Steve Reichs piece (Steve was originally asked to do the film but refused, TD were asked to do something close to his piece kzread.info/dash/bejne/c6SixNumft2flKg.html ) - the Roland requires a bit of work to learn the various key combos, but the keybed is nicer than most small kit!
