Its nobodys business that you have a dishwasher. You dont need to explain or apologize for it. I bought a 100 year old house to retire in and the first thing i did was have a dishwasher installed.

Amen. The idea of tiny living is convenience and a dishwasher fills the bill. If some folks want to delete that, fine. We all can respect their right to choose, but that runs both ways.

I live in a 100 plus-year-old house and when we remodeled our kitchen I didn't want nor need a dishwasher and have never regretted my decision.

My desire to live more "tiny" is how I came across your channel a few years ago. On July 11th, we bought a 24.5ft fifth wheel to begin full time living at the end of August!

Good morning from Alberta Canada. Another great video! My family and I are moving in 2 weeks from a 1400 to a 560 Sq foot home. It's going to be a adventure...may God shine his face upon you both 💛💜

It would be difficult for me to live as small as you two, we have a huge garden and I can hundreds of jars of food a year and my husband is a musician, so we have to have room for a couple of guitars. But we do live in a little 800 square foot house for 3 adults. Even at that, there's one room that we rarely use. What you two do with your little space is remarkable.

My husband and I both over 65, and after much thought, we decided to build a new home this summer and actually double the size of our home living space. The new home will have a full covered porch on the back, a walkout from the full finished basement and 3,600 sf. We thought about the move for a long time; and decided we actually 'enjoy' having space to do all the things we love to do. Me; sewing, art watercolor and acrylic, refinishing furniture for sale, jewelry making, propagating indoor and outdoor plants, and prepping (dehydrating food / Thrive Life Foods ...NO canning) My husband; video game collections, huge music collection, reading, studying architecture and history, and planning our many travels. Now we will have room to create and enjoy our retirement days and have family to stay over to share time. I am sure we 'could' live 'small'....but we decided we do not need to or want to. We are thrifty, we plan long term, we travel a lot and we try to expand our hobby/talents...to keep growing. We love it. Like to see how you both enjoy the 'tiny' living. I think both have their merits!! Enjoy your videos!

Also, in a small space, having a dishwasher means you will keep your place clean looking. I hand wash, which I dont mind, but I never have a clean kitchen. There are always dishes waiting to be washed and makes my kitchen looking not as clean as I would like it. And in a small space, extra things laying around always looks messy.

Four years ago we too sold all of our possessions and moved into a 35 ft 5th wheel to be able to do ministry freely. At first I thought downsizing would be hard, but it’s truly freeing. I agree, and now live in a space that is bed, bath, kitchen & living room. It’s truly all you need. We have enough room for a few quest at a time, but I do miss space for son’s that live out of town to visit. I think two bedrooms would be nice and a larger table area would also be a blessing! I have arrived at the same thought and ready to downsize. I live in a 2,200 sq. ft. home and I have too much stuff for a single dad with a daughter. We have had two yard sales this year and will be having more as the weather gets cooler. Excellent Video As Always. 💯👍👍😎🇺🇸

We have an 850 square ft house. It's the best I can do. I gotta have solitude while my spouse has to watch tv constantly. I go to the bedroom where I have a sanctuary made, with books, DVD SET up, hobby supplies and beds for the dogs. I appreciate your lifestyle, but we couldn't do it without killing each other. 😄

I agree with you about those tiny house benches. I think those people must never sit down. They probably sit on their bed to read, etc. I once subscribed to a young couples channel who lived in a beautiful van conversion. They had everything but a bathroom. They stayed in campgrounds that had a bathroom or had a system in a tent they kept outside. Someone asked them how they went to the bathroom in the middle of the night. They both thought it was hilarious that anyone would need to go during the night. They were very YOUNG! Bless their naive hearts!! They will love these simple comforts when they get older.

Hubby and I have gotten rid of stuff over the years. When the kids moved out, they took their stuff and donated high school stuff to the local museum, as the museum was looking for items from the local high school. Win win. Hubby and I have stuff that we use and want. If we move, then we will get rid of more stuff. You are right it is just stuff. Yep take care. We gave our girls their pictures and the family pictures. Give stuff, that you want others to have, before you die. Sometimes what you want to happen after you pass away does not happen. You can see them enjoying the stuff while you are still around. Saw this happen.

I have followed you guys for around two years . When I watch, I feel as though I am visiting with friends! I was able to live in my pro master Ram for around a year. I loved every minute .I visited my children and family. When I decided to settle down and find “normal “ without my beloved spouse , I went SMALL. I love it. I probably could have gone even smaller. I have empty kitchen cabinets! Love your channel. Thanks.

Where I used to go to church we had a dentist who was the leader of our parish council for several years. He was the oldest from a very poor family with 4 brothers in a two bedroom house. (5 boys all together) When the 4th boy came the two older boys began sleeping on the living room floor. When the 5th boy came along the third one joined them. All five grew up to be very successful. Just goes to show it's not about the house it's about the people in it.

I see two people that truly love each other. In 2019, that's a true treatment. 👍

Family life has changed over the years. My husband and I raised 8 children in a mobile home. We all had meals together, everyone in our neighbourhood was like family. My kids had so many kids to play with. Life is so different now. Most young people I know don’t sit at the supper table and chat with the children anymore. I think they are missing so much of life!

My wife and I downsized to a 32 ft. travel trailer with one slide out. Been here for 1 yr after leaving a 35 ft. motor home with 1 slide out. We are very comfortable here. We have a 10' X 12' storage shed for an extra refrigerator/freezer and tools. This is our last home since we are also in our 60's. Awesome living here in Southern Florida. We share a 10 acre track with her mother and use her electric, sewer, cable TV and water. All we owe is internet, trailer payment and car insurance. Retirement is not much but we live fairly well. Thanks for sharing your home with us... This small trailer sleeps 9.

We raised our family of 7 (five children), homeschooled them for 23 years....in 1400 and then an 1800 square foot home. There was one bath/shower....and I honestly never recall anybody complaining or “fighting” over it. (The kids may remember it differently, however. LOL) Now, hubby and I live in almost 3,000 square feet. Our oldest son lives w/ his wife, baby and two dogs....in 4500 square feet in NoVA! YIKES! Times have changed....and absolutely to each his own....but, I do appreciate the simple, downsized life some live. Totally! I’m an “always in the kitchen foodie gal”....and my mind ran quickly to counter space. I was wondering if you could build a hinged, drop down “shelf” on the closet door....or a “pop up” shelf beside the oven...kind of like the old fashioned in-the-wall ironing boards....to create a bit more workspace and/or serving space right by the stove. That’s just me, though. It obviously works perfectly fine as-is for you two! Whew....I rambled on! Good, good video and perspective! Bless you!

One way of keeping the memory of an item is to take a clear photo of it and store that on a dedicated drive with a note of why it meant something to you. xx Thank you for your videos btw, which always cheer me one way or another. xx

When you converted the shed for your thrive how did you change the way you use the space under your bed. By the way I am 70 years old My husband is 75 in august and our 50 yes 50 th, anniversery is in august You two seam to be so happy together. Love it.

Most of our Thrive food is stored at an off-site location, not in the shed. The storage under the bed has not changed. It is for smaller cans, and we use it for store bought canned goods of things that Thrive doesn’t carry - soups, canned tuna and salmon, etc.

Tinyhouse Prepper I used my Thrive green onions this morning to make my husband an omelette ...I’ve tried to accumulate some Thrive and some H2O...in case we flood again...

I started chuckling when you came and sat down at your desk while she’s in the TV tray. In flying airplanes we call that tandem seating. So you two are tandem desking!

We live in a small house (not as small as yours, but a 1 bedroom). You're so right: all you need is a place to sleep, a place to sit, a kitchen and a bathroom. When I used to watch "House Hunters" on TV, I got so vexed with the couples who had 1 or 2 children and NEEDED a 3,500 sq ft house--or larger. They will be paying a mortgage for years, not to mention taxes, insurance and upkeep.

I enjoyed this video! I am amazed at the number of people we know with huge houses and just two or three people living in them. Every child does not need their own bedroom and bathroom. They just don't! And some even have separate play rooms or game rooms where they keep stuff, as if an entire room of their own isn't enough space. A bigger house just means more rooms to clean, more space to heat and cool, and just more maintenance overall. I love that you have made a comfortable, cozy home out of your little space.

I'm with you!! My husband and I are in our 70s and we have our comfortable recliners. Life would be horrible without the ability to recline and elevate our feet!!!!

Depends on how much you have and if your willing to part with it. I built houses for years and also sold my personal homes many times so we lived in out 31 foot camper for 7 months at a time lots of room but we had all our Position in storage.we sold our large house in the city and built a 11 hundred square foot cottage where we live now.we are getting used to downsizing now.

I do have to have books. I have weeded my collection several times and am continuing to weed. I now have two bookcases full of books I want to keep. I know there’s Kindle, which I prefer to use for “quick reads.” It would be very tough for me to completely relinquish all of my books. I admire your way of life, your love for each other, and your love of God.

We have rediscovered our town's public library. They are a wonderful resource-- they have 1000s of books, including the newest fiction and non-fiction bestsellers. And anything we'd like to read, if they don't have it, they can search through our state's library data base and then they can borrow it from any library in the state for us. We both have Kindles, but we're always reading "real" books.

I live in a 26 foot trailer - I have all that I need except washer and dryer .... the other thing I would like to mention is the idea of "one and done' example. I own the good old cast iron pots and pans. They last more than a lifetime, one stainless French press for coffee (no more breaking the glass pots) Buy quality not volume. I try to have double duty everything.

I live in a 32' FEMA camper on land that I own for several years. I lacked a comfortable place to sit, I sat at the table which housed my computer. My biggest problems are my books and my serious food preps. I'm now in an older mobile home with two added rooms, one of which has a wood stove. In the camper I was by myself, I now have a wonderful husband. We are older now I'm 72 and he's 75. We love our simpler living, although no dishwasher.

I absolutely love the genuine joy you both present. I agree with getting rid of stuff. Over the last 4 days I been cleaning out my storage unit... it’s all on my patio now. But no more monthly cost or worry over that unit. And now the “stuff” is here to go through and get rid of. I’ll bet 95% of what I’ve been paying good money to store I won’t be keeping.

I read of an early christian women who lived in a cave only big enough for her and she focused only on God. That was all she needed for happiness. She did not have other distractions and was able to concentrate on a relationship with God. Her story reminded me of a husband and wife who had a sick child at St. Judes Hospital and they said they moved out of their house, put their belongings in storage and were able to focus on their child. It is amazing what a distraction things we have can be.

But dont forget that God also wants us to enjoy ourselves and our lives, who doesnt want to have beautiful flowers, books, wonderful music, etc in our homes! We were not made to live in sterile environments where is the joy in that, it is only a distraction if you allow it to be. Their motto is "life simple....live free" and that sums it up, it does not say "live with nothing".

I live in two rooms. You do have to keep getting rid of STUFF just to move. I've been in mine almost six years. You learn to live without a lot of STUFF, and it's very liberating. Well said video.

Ack!!!!! I've struggled with this all my life. I know you are right, but I don't know if I could go down that small. I guess I qualify as a hoarder, but it's books, and DVDs, and fabric for the sewing/quilting, things for the art and writing, and then there's my sister's stuff. She has many of her own interests. We're struggling to fit into a 1100 square foot doublewide, oh! I forgot the gardening stuff! Lifelong gardener with tools and stuff....I've got to go through boxes I haven't opened in years, and what I want to throw out or send to Goodwill, my sis wants to keep, and she'd gladly pitch my fabrics which would result in her hospitalization I mean, uh, which would be a bad idea because it is not a good idea to mess with a sewer's hoard. Or my writing stuff. I'm trying to talk her into going down to one set of books between us, since we each have a copy of a lot of the same books. This is not going very well, since she won't let go of her copies, and so I've pitched quite a lot of mine, but then there are the ones that are not copies. We don't argue about those because books are...if the power goes out, kindles will be useless. Physical books are very important to us. In short, we each need a separate house, but that is not an option. I honestly don't know how to pare down, even tho I want to. This video has convicted me that I'm not trying hard enough. Pray for me? Thank you. I love how you two are of one heart and mind. My sister and I are not, and it does make for a tense house sometimes.

Hi, have you read about the Kon Marie method? You declutter by category not room so you can more easily work out which items you prize/use more and wish to keep. She talks about only tackling your own items and sometimes that influences others to follow your example. A bit hard to complain about someone's collection of shoes for example if you have so many clothes you can't put them all away. ;) I recommend giving her book "The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up" a read. It's not very long and might just give you the added inspiration you need.

One thing I suggest for you two is a small hospital table. I noticed Elizabeth slouching when using her table. A hospital table will slide over the recliner some. The worst thing about them is they generally don't fold. I like mine :)

Love watching you two and Leo. It's amazing what stuff we accumulate. My fridge is dying. I bought a small dorm fridge(1/2 price at Lowes) to hold us over for a couple of weeks. After I filled the small fridge, we looked at each other and joked that we could live with that fridge. In Europe they have tiny fridges. I had already purchased the new fridge. Wish I had tried the tiny fridge sooner.

I was thinking the same thing when I was growing up we were having a house built and while it was being built we rented a small a frame house and there were 7 of us and it was fine, no one complained or anything. We had what we needed and were very happy. I have very nice memories from living there.

You mentioned Psoriasis which I had most of my life but since I started the true Keto diet it has gone, in 4 months. It is so nice to not contend with this, also skin problems stem from the gut.. lots of info on line about this,, God bless you both in your tiny house.

My husband and I are in our seventies and live in a 30 ft motorhome. Like Bill my husband has removed a lot of fluff and we have a small washer and dryer. I can't get over this small space is so comfortable. It has saved us so much because there's no room so I don't buy stuff any more.

I was a single parent working full time and going to college at night. All I could afford was a "room" in someone else's apartment. There was only a twin bed in the room which my daughter got and I made a bed on the floor. The woman who really rented the apartment was sort of demanding and not so nice so we spent a lot of time in our "room" away from her. I would come home from work and we'd spend time playing in the room. Once my daughter fell asleep I'd sit on the floor with my college books and I'd study while my girl slept in the bed. I also did a lot of praying there on the floor and contemplating our future with Jesus. I remember being so comfortable one night realizing wow, this is really all the room I need, we don't "need" a lot of space to do what we need to do and be happy about it! I was content in such a small space, a bedroom.

At one time I flirted with the idea of tiny house living, but I gotta admit I like my stuff. I'm not a hoarder by any means but I like my stuff. Love you guys but love my stuff also. haha . Oh and love my dog and my cat.Well not sure about the cat depends on her mood. lol Take care you two.

GOOD video!! I agree with everything y'all said!! The thing that bothers me is that I want a place to sit/sleep our children when they come. Even though they don't come often. All five live out of town. We're in our sixties too. I want to downsize. I am praying about it. Michael doesn't care either way. He says whatever I want he's happy with. We solve the visitor thing by paying for rooms at a local hotel. The families love it because they can take advantage of the pool the game room and the kids love the free breakfast. Takes the burden off sharing small space and it's fun for everyone. For a few hundred dollars a year we have cut our expenses dramatically and have downsized to a small two-bedroom home.

A good option is a toy hauler RV, which has two queen size bunks in the garage, along with a half bath, their own entrance, tv and patio!

Every time you said "stuff" pictures of my bathroom cabinets and office closet popped into my head. Time to declutter! Regarding dishwashers I agree with you. But, a half dishwasher, aka a drawer type would give you plenty of room and save water. too. Thanks so much for sharing.

You're right about the fact we can live smaller than we think. Your journey is similar to my own. Several years back I unloaded a lot of possessions. I'm getting down to where I can get everything I own into my pickup truck and a cargo trailer. I used to have a two story, 5 bedroom, two bathroom house. My master bedroom had it's won laundry room and the whole think was about 600 square feet. Now I live in a very nice apartment that is about 540 square feet and I am content and happy. When I go into full time retirement as long as I am still in good health, Lord willing I want to buy a small mobile home that needs to be renovated. I have a small table identical to the one Elizabeth is using. I got rid of my computer desks a long time ago and now I just use small tables. You are right about the 1970's and is something I have observed also. Houses were smaller and wages were better than what they are now. Now these houses I work on are huge in comparison and our wages have not kept up with inflation. The wealth in this country has shifted and it's not as evenly spread out as it once was. Builders don't really earn more money on a house now, they earn the same and have to build a bigger house for it. This is put many companies out of business as you knwo first hand. I've survived in my own line of work only because I work with one of the top companies in this region and I even send them information about new houses going up. I've been with them over 19 years and we take care of each other. Had I been with a smaller company only the Lord knows where I would be now. We came to a point when the recession hit that houses dried up completely. I had been going house to house finishing drywall for years, then all of a sudden.....nothing. We were scrambling for work. We even did painting jobs. Fortunately I am accomplished in 5 trades, so we diversified until the economy healed. All of us prior to that were spending money, buying big homes, etc. After that I realized it is best to live small even in times of plenty. And that is the time to save, save, save for when things get hard. I'm enjoying this talk you are doing because I relate in so many ways. I know the struggles and the trials of losing a big home, selling off equipment I had for my own business, selling personal possessions and getting rid of "stuff" that I just stored. I agree with you concerning a dishwasher. I don't have one now, but prior to moving into an apartment I had owned my own homes (2 of them) over the 20 years prior to that and I installed a dishwasher in each of them. Even by myself it's one of the handiest things you can have. One thing I would suggest for you is because Elizabeth mentioned the fact that it's hard to have company over for dinner and things is to put a small addition on your trailer so you have a dining room. I don't think it would take much and just throw a small closet in to hang coats when people come over. It may mean adding another tiny wood burning stove for the winter, but I think it would give you that extra you need without being too big.

I love the idea of living small but I like clothes and I wear makeup and have to blow dry my hair every day. My husband is also too ornery to live in such close quarters ( I might not be so great either).You both have a relationship where you truly enjoy one another and are able to live harmoniously together in small quarters. I really enjoyed and I was blessed by Elizabeth’s bible teaching this week. This video, after all my objections was still good and true.

Elizabeth, you are right on the mark. We get smarter as we get older. We find we do not need all the fluff and stuff. I too am 60ish and am looking to downsize into an RV. Amazing what you don't need anylonger. But room for my Tabby toes cat is mandatory!

I absolutely agree...everything else is just stuff! I am working on getting rid of just stuff now! I took a bunch of stuff to my fellow women veterans yesterday! It was refreshing!

Thanks for sharing your own tiny journey, I was watching you when my friend rang me, and she's putting boxes into storage and I said ok good luck with that, but I don't need to i got rid of stuff i don't need, but she said oh it's sentimental and we need it, but they will only be able to get to the stuff every 6 months.

You two are so cute. We're about the same age and went from a 2700 sq.ft. house that was also our dream home on an acre of land in an urban area to a 1500 sq.ft. ranch with about 1/4 acre if that. We couldn't take care of a big house or yard any more. We sold/gave away tons of STUFF and still filled up our new basement. We're happy...except going to antique malls isn't nearly as much fun because the first question is 'where are we going to put that?'.

Hi, this is my first time commenting. I live in a 1384 square foot home and honestly we added on to it many years ago and I wish we hadn't. Accept that we have had family here for the holidays. I have been a stay at home mom and am so thankful that we could do it. I have always liked having my sons close by doing their homework and just talking. It was so much easier when they were very young also to keep an eye on them. We are a very close family and enjoy spending time together but we also give each other space when needed. Anyway it has been a big blessing for us. I also really like my dishwasher and my washer and dryer. I am so thankful. Many blessings to you both and your kitty, Leo kinda looks like my Charlotte but she is alot smaller.

Unbelievable how much I have acquired over the years and never use. Translation - I don’t need. Pray for what you need in life, not for what you want. Peace!

OMG I used to have a 2500 sq ft house and I’m single. Oh I forgot I have a chihuahua. I now live in a 1400 sq ft house and it still feels huge. It’s amazing what real estate we are sold.

Good video! I also find that I need lots of windows when living in a tiny space. Makes it seem bigger, and keeps you from feeling closed in. By the way I slept in a double bed with 2 sisters and 3 cats LOL! I’m 66 yrs old. Thing’s changed big time.😃

Fabulous video! So funny though...I was just having this conversation with my husband the other day! Only difference is some of our stuff is junk and it needs to go. I guess as we get older we realized more and more what's truly important and what's not. We eventually realize the difference between want and need. Ya'll are so true about stuff! Dave and I are trying to figure out if we want to stay in our home, which isn't big by today's standards 1200 square feet with a nice large carport and front and back porches. We never hardly ever sit on the front porch and we live on a acre of land! It's just the maintenance of it all that gets tiring. Any hoo we will figure it all out in time. Thanks for the pep talk!

Love your wee home! Beautiful maine coon Leo! I love my wee home too. It was easy for me to adjust to a tiny home as I have always been a less is more person. I suffer from depression/anxiety and an organized home helps my mind.

You two are so right. I live in a 35’ class A, motor home. I have the washer & dryer but miss a dish washer. I am still down sizing the stuff. It takes time to let go 😊👍🏻

We have a fair amount more space than you do, I think we're about 750 square feet. And I agree with you, a washer and dryer is a necessity. We had a pipe burst above our condo, and were flooded. We had to spend seven weeks in a Residence Inn while the repairs were completed. That was one of the things that was really a trial, I had to go up a flight of stairs to the laundry room, and pay for each load of washing and drying. It took at least two hours, each time, and at least three trips. I didn't like it much, but was thankful that I didn't have to go to a laundromat. I've had to do THAT chore many times in my life, and I don't miss it at all. And with Linda's disability, we need a dishwasher. We'll be moving from our condo when I retire, and looking to simplify our lives. I think you two have a great philosophy, and I love what you've done with your tiny house. Linda and I send our best to the two of you, and Roxy barks a big HI to Leo!
