Tiny Jefferson hamburger stand has huge following

Downtown Jefferson is filled with small, locally owned businesses, and perhaps the smallest of them all can be found on the corner of Racine and Center streets. At just eight feet by eight feet, Wedl's Hamburger Stand is 64 square feet of hamburger heaven.

Have you been back to get a burger lately? I remember in the 60s you would take Sunday drives with your family, such a simple pleasure. I also remember people washing cars in the creeks on Saturday's.

I grew up in and around PdC from 1947 - 1957 - A Pete's burger was a must at least weekly during the summer. Have taken friends there, and my wife and her mom, on day trips, even though I now live in Milwaukee. It's only a 6 hour round trip for a burger from heaven! I have also had burgers from Wedl's several times when driving Hwy 18 to Madison and back ( I don't like freeways, too sterile, no scenery or small towns). I prefer Petes' Burgers hands down.

That story about the grill is so unique, thats the thing with some food joints theyll have an old grill thatll be better then modern ones, especially for old-school recipes like an 1/8th pound grinded patty on a grill

Honestly, heat is heat. They could buy a brand new modern griddle tomorrow and those burgers will taste identical. You can see they’re clearly cooking everything inside of an oven pan that’s placed on top of the griddle so all the flavor of the seasoning is right there and those baking pans. the only thing they would need to do is fine-tune the temperature since a modern griddle will have much better alloy for retaining heat. Not to mention a newer Gretta would probably be 20 times more fuel efficient so no an old griddle is not better.

My brain 🧠 says they are using less fat content in the patties for them to be that thin and not have holes in them. The temp is relatively low. So good quality meat and a blend of cuts with less fat than 80/20 is my guess.
