Tiny Island Survival Challenge | No Food, No Water, No Shelter Building Resources | Solo Survival
Ойын-сауық
Zach challenges Greg to survive a night on a high lake tiny island, deep in the Rocky Mountains. Greg packs light for the solo overnight (with Findlay), so he needs to use his boat for shelter and find food if he's going to eat!
Greg is a self-taught survivalist from Canal Flats, British Colombia, who, since he was a boy, has read nearly every book on the topic. When he is not out in the wilderness, he is a professional dry-waller. He started his first bow drill fire when he was thirteen and spent the next forty years learning bushcraft and studying plants and edibles. He has even developed some of his own survival techniques and is a skilled hunter with both a bow and a slingshot.

one of the few channels in existence worth the wait....Stoked for another one!
I like that little girls attitude. "If we build it, he will come." Like Mr. Ovens is a forest spirit or something.. I can honestly say I'd always share my fire with Greg. Genuine individual, class act, and a real OG when it comes to bushcraft. If you've never heard his story I suggest you look into it. When he says he has been doing this his entire life he isn't joking. I know he shared it on Mr. Fowlers channel once.

@@djyshak To be honest I don't remember. Its been quite some time since I watched the video. It was definitely a Fowlers Makery and Mischief video. May have said something about Greg sharing his story in the title, definitely in the description, and its an older video, also it takes place in the recreated hut Zach built when he was on Alone, maybe look for that in the thumbnail? Sorry I can't be more helpful.

Can you boil salt water to make it drinkable? And will boiling any water make it safe?
@estoylaroca
3 жыл бұрын
@@kylethedalek From the very little that I know... I think you can boil salt water to make it drinkable. I think the trick is, is to actually not drink what was boiled, but to drink the condensation from boiling. To get the condensation, you put something at the top of the boiling salt water, and then you somehow gather the pooling droplets at the top, maybe let it drip into another container. For the 2nd question, I think that also applies? Don't quote me on that, it's just what I think.
@beatnik6806
3 жыл бұрын
@@kylethedalek You can't boil saltwater and drink it. Unless when you boil it, put something over it to collect the vapours and drip it in container and drink that. It is pretty slow though and I have never tried it if its efficient so I can't adwise for it in emerygency situation.

I miss youre long Survival Adventures like the 30 days with Zack
When I was a lot younger I would do a lot of survival backpacking trips, and the method I would use was to look for fire wood in areas the rain couldn't reach, never thought of finding it in the trees themselves. Learn something new every day.
I don't know why I check to see how long the videos are. They're never long enough.

Gordon here , I work a trapline and I also use my canoe or boat as shelter ,But I prop the boat or canoe up a little so the fire reflexes heat down on me and I use green spruce brows to make a soft mat to lay on .Like I put length ways then cross ways and do several layers to make soft bedding to lay on and keep the cold off of my body. It helps with a sleeping bag and also gives a fresh smelling bed to lay on.
who thumbs down this flawless wholesome content??
When I visit friends they always have to show me the most recent pics of the family they've taken. When they come to my house I show them Greg Ovens videos. Guess which one is most fun! Thanks Greg!
These are the type of fundamental life skills we should be teaching the younger generation. Sadly instead it is to rely on the system. Thank you so much for being authentic about real skills and not faking finding 100% of your food, but also showing how to catch food and prepare it as well. You bring so much hope and positivity in the most grim circumstances and find a way to just live and love sustainably. I hope to make this my lifestyle in the next 2 years with the same attitude and skills I’ve learned from you. Thank you twice over.
Hi Greg- you inspire me so much to get out there - I’m a 58 year young female that is used to hiking/camping solo in the Adirondack Mountains nearby in NY and Ive learned so much from you.Thanks- you are amazing!

Bless you Greg. Great video. I showed my 11 year old nephew some of your videos just today! When he comes down to mine next we’re putting up a tarp in my garden, going into some local woods to collect wood and the stuff we need to make fire using a bow drill. Having only gone camping once in my life, there is a deep urge inside of me to connect to nature and do the awesome bushcraft survival things that you do greg! Keep up the great work this video was amazing i felt pure joy and bliss watching those shots of the lake and sunset.. Respect Greg! Keep it up wishing you great health and prosperity..
Hey, you should see if you can get a small portable Berkey water filter system. They make a small stainless steel quart one that might be neat to see you test out. You can put any water (river, lake, swamp) in there except salt water and it will clean it safely (technically you can put salt water through and it will clean it, but it will just be clean salt water, cause it does not filter salt). No need to boil or use tablets or anything. Filters last for decades, and just need cleaning every couple of months of active use. I would be interested in seeing you put the filter to task in the environments you venture out into. I just like to see people running that filter through all sorts of muck and still getting a good drink (though you will have to clean it more if you try to stick mud through it, but I would still enjoy watching you do it). It is kind of fun to watch, I think. And if it works then maybe you will take a lighter, and a portable Berkey system everywhere you go ;). Or, if it does not work, you will have a good video warning people about taking a Berkey out for camping and such. Win, win.
Didn't think Ovens videos could get any better but, then came Finn. Yesterday I watched one and was inspired to go for a hike. It was awesome.
