    I did something similar with Sweden against Russia and Russian lost over 2 million dead while I lost less than 100k wonded and dead all together. But in the middle of the war finland decided to rebell against the Russians so they somehow destroyed the moral of my army. So Russia unfortunately took Lulå in northern Sweden from me after almost 10 years of war.

    Woah, I'm in complete awe. :O Thanks a lot for taking a look at my save and well... saving it! :D I thought I did something fundamentally wrong that showed effects after a long time. Like not utilizing throughput bonuses enough, or colonizing which is probably expensive but I just missed the costs, or not concentrating all manufacturing in Southern Finland, opting for spreading the wealth. (I mean I built a pretty sizeable clothes factory in Åland of all places... And decided to have government admin and universities at lvl 1 everywhere, only expanding them in the capital since tax capacity never was a problem.) I was sure that all the trade routes were cancelled for years and because of that my economy crashed for good. Also I underestimated the importance of trade, just going with whatever the game proposed. Not gonna lie, when you started building those construction sectors I was like "he's nuts!" and then the line went up anyway. xd When it comes to independence, I was damaging relations because I was salty that I had to suffer for dumb Russian decisions. ;d I knew I could beat Russia in battle*, because they never upgrade their armies and they never get rid of peasant levies. My biggest fear, which you addressed, was losing access to Russian resources. I was sure that I wouldn't be able to make it as independent nation due to huge admin cost of that many trade routes and most likely not being able to join any customs union. And also I thought that trade doesn't matter that much and doesn't provide enough resources. But you proved me very wrong. Thanks! (I hope Paradox is aware of this bug, but just in case, I'll report it on the forums.) *Though I'd just make a big army anyway, just in case. Not being aware at all about the reserve troops mechanic.

    For anyone who is unaware, you can adjust the ratio of reserve to frontline by assigning more generals. Say if you have 30 barracks, assigning 2 generals will make a 15-15 split, while 3 generals will each have 10 battalions under command. In the early game when the training rate is way lower, sending only one third or even one fifth troops to the frontline can be desirable. Also the enlistment decree is 25% training rate bonus on demand.

  • @Boleslav4
    @Boleslav4 Жыл бұрын

    The current design favours quality over quantity immensely, because there can only be one battle at one front at the same time. In reality, if Finland would field 20 units and the enemy coalition 600 units, the coalition would just go through the 99 % of borders where Finland did not have their army. I expect the system to get some tweaking as right now it is not the most intuitive thing (yesterday, I lost to Russia as Ottomans despite having less casualties and being the only one who took territory). I did learn a lot today. I knew a bit, but the analysis was top notch, keep them coming. :)

    How do the troops in reserve and reinforcement rate work in relation to conscript brigades? I've been mainly playing a game as the USA and the majority of my army is typically made up of conscripts that I have to call up when fighting large wars. Do the conscription centers work in the same way as the barracks when it comes to the reinforcement rate? Or, is the reinforcement rate a benefit of having a standing professional army from using barracks? Also, this seems to be a huge knock against impulsively promoting generals to higher levels. They may be able to command more troops but that's not a good thing if you want to maintain a healthy troop reserve! Thanks!

    The reserves system basically means not to mobilize AND deploy all the units from a given state. The barrack lvl and PM decides what your training rate will be, while deployed units suffer attrition. It does not matter where the deployed troops are kept, or what their orders are. Troops without any orders can take part in defensive battles in their HQ, but not offensive battles. I still assign a general to the reserve troops if I am expecting them to take part in defensive battles and mobilize them in standby as otherwise, they dont get the general bonuses to their stat. TLDR, you dont want to lose more troops from a barracks through battle losses or attrition than what you can train new recruits. And not assigning troops to a front keeps them from suffering attrition losses.

    Just build up your economy. I focused mainly on tools early game and a bit on furnitures. Finland is so small that landowners quickly loose a lot of clout and the only thing keeping them relevant are your laws. Same with the church. So just build your economy, and slowly change laws that weaken IGs you don't like, but don't piss them off enough to revolt. (For example Professional Army gives boost to Arms Forces and is way better than Peasant Levies that empower landowners and best of all, purple windmills don't seem to mind when you're changing it. Same with bureaucracy. I've managed to go straight into universal suffrage because of how weak the windmills were, but voting and church laws are probably the toughest to pass because they upset them the most. Aside of course from the tax laws which are hard to get support for.)
