I was in the same table tennis club as Truls when he started out as a kid (around 6 years old iirc?). I put the paddle on the shelf a long time ago but it's been SUPER cool to see his journey from being this kid from a very small town in Sweden just starting out to beating Timo Boll to grab our first european championship gold in so long. Huge congrats!

Timo fighting spirit is unrivaled. What a true fighter Timo is. Respect to the German who plays 2 times with very tight scores against Falk and Truls.

I am Swedish, i always root for my country, but Timo is also my second favourite player of all time right after J-O Waldner, his longevity at the top of the game, his absolut class act and sportsmanship, extremly strong mental strength and ability to turn what looks like complete losses into wins makes him a still playing and living legend, very well played by Truls, and Sweden truly do deserve this after having had a total table tennis drought for over 20(!) years were finally winning (sometimes ;) on the big stage again.

Congratulations to team Sweden🇸🇪🎉 They earned it. Well played tournament by the vikings. On a sidenote (not to diminish the Swedish victory) I just need to write that the top class player field in Germany is so broad, that they easily could have reached the European Final with 2 teams and play the Final among themselves with the absent Team A: Dang Qiu, Ovtcharov, Franziska, Filus versus this Team B: Boll, Duda, Stumper, Walther. Sweden earned it this time though and this Final will go down in history as one of the best and most intense!

Waldner and Persson were competetive into their 40s too, Persson got to olympic semis in 2008 at 43. Ma Long still beating top chinese players at 35. Doesn't mean the competition is weak. Timo is very talented and has a very efficient playing style, that's all.

@@torsteinholtz1535Waldner and Persson were also competitive because the next generation was much weaker. Same for Samsonov and Timo. Ma Long is very strong at 35, but Timo is not 35. There is no way players in their 40s should be remotely competitive in a sport like table tennis. Plus we have to remember - at the time when Persson or Waldner were competing (and when Timo was at the height of his career) people would generally retire from any sport at 27-28. So there's just no way.

And most Euro players that were born after the early 1970 never got the same amount of training the Europeans went through in the 80's. Moregard himself has terrible knee problems,he tries to max out his serve-receive but I don't see him beating players in rallies. If you watch Waldner /Perssonbeating young Euro players they had better technique and even their footwork was superior.Samsonov had good all-round technique but he was physically inferior to guys like Primorac/Persson. TT is not much valued outside China,in the 80's it became an Olympic sport and Federations got some money which helped developing some formidable players.Since the 90's it has been stale.
