Timing Cover Reseal on the GT-86 BRZ & FRS Common Oil Leak
It is a common issue on the Toyota GT-86, Subaru BRZ & the Scion FRS. These timing covers start to leak. Overall, it is not a hard job, just time consuming. Removing the crank pulley bolt is probably the most difficult part, depending on what tools you may have.
You will need silicone, x5 O-Rings and the crank seal.

    Completely forgot to comment on your vid but a few months ago my brother and I installed a turbo in his BRZ. After we had pulled everything out of the car we found a good sized oil leak in his timing cover. We had so much pulled from the engine it made sense to reseal it ourselves. We never could have done something like this if it wasn’t for your video! Extremely helpful and we were able to do it with basic skills. The BRZ has been running and driving for a few months now and is so much fun! Just wanted to say thanks for putting this tutorial together!

    I’m getting ready to do this to my 2015. Been putting it off for a few oil changes, but the leak has gotten to the point that I’m losing too much oil in between oil changes. Thanks for the vid. I knew it wasn’t going to be difficult, but I did take away some helpful info. 🤘🤘🤘

    THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS!!!!! I was so sad to see my car start leaking oil from the front gasket D: and thought it would take awhile before it really started leaking but I saw drips of oil hanging out on the lower components ;_; I wanted to do it myself but was afraid I'd need to raise the engine out. After watching this I have hope I can actually do it myself and save labor costs!

    I am currently in the process of rebuilding my frs motor due to a pun bearing, I just want to know where you put the sealant, I know you can put it in the groove or on the surface where it meets, just want to know what's best.

    First Time Ownership of A 14’ BRZ since 2020! Since taking the cover off, is it worth replacing the water pump and alternator? 76kmiles.. I just also replaced my clutch.

    We usually charge $450.00 for the parts and labor. It can vary depending on where you go tho.

    Is it worth doing this job though? I hear many do this job or have it done and it starts leaking quiet again soon after ???

    In many cases this leak will only get worse, if not addressed. sadly, if it is not done correctly, it will start leaking prematurely in comparison to its already premature issue with leaking, I guess they need to have a flaw, between this & the throughout bearing issue. I do believe it is worth repairing.

    So I’m in the middle of doing this job now. I’ve run into what I think is a small problem due to my stock headers. You have after market headers, which probably allows you access to all the bottom bolts to the timing cover. There is one bolt at the bottom of the cover that I cannot get to because of the size of the stock headers, basically under and to the right of the dipstick tube hole. My best guess to get to this bolt, for those with stock headers, is to loosen the headers from the motor to gain access to the bolt. What are your thoughts on this?

    @@killakris13 I believe it was one bigger o ring and 3 smaller o rings. The parts guy will pull up a schematic that shows them all.
