Timing Codes (P0017) After The Engine Was Replaced Twice! 2011 Camry.

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

We got here a 2011 Toyota Camry that had an engine replaced after it was setting codes P0014 & P0017. They replaced it again, but the codes remain. After some digging, it seems there is a difference between Federal emissions and California emissions... I try some tricks to see if we can get away without opening up or replacing the engine. Thanks for watching!

Hell ya! Another Advanced Level Diagnostics video! I like that you recalled it that early on in the diagnostic stage, about running into this issue before. The ones that normally stick with me are the ones that caused me a lot of time, and it's as it seared into my brain, not ever letting me forget. They cost us a lot of time, but we learn from them. Good video sir! Keep them coming, please. I didn't know Keith Perkins had a waveform library, nice!

You Sir, are what they call a superb diagnostician. Phenomenal video - thank you for the info. My initial guess was something ECU related but I never would've imagined they put differing cam gears in the same engine in different locales. Both ECU's were working perfectly fine but one was expecting a different input from the timing components than it was getting.

The correct fix is to replace the exhaust Cam gear, according to what I read in Identifix, the timing mark is one tooth off. I was experimenting by replacing the ECM as it is a 10min job and I got it for $35 used. Thanks for watching!

I'm sorry, but I don't know if it would work without changing the VIN. I have never tried doing it like that. I think the car would start, but you would probably have an engine light on for the incorrect VIN.

I have a 2010 camry 2.5 cylinder,, purchased from Toyota dealer about 9 years ago, got it with 77k drove it to about 200k an timing went bad,, I paid almost 6k for new motor,, an got the run around from the business that put in an, an the Toyota dealer,, point being is I got a new motor with 80k on it but got it back with check engine light on... but with old motor when timing went bad,, the motor lost power... once it was warm,, every stop sign an red light I stopped at the car would stall, had new motor put in an for over a year now,, has had all power an drives fine but spits same code as last motor... Toyota claims they did a motor flash, check engine ight still on... then I have a buddie whom says he has a buddie a work that had same problem as me but he's telling me I need the ECU REBOOTED, I love my 2010 camry an ready for a new one,, I know it's something stupid or simple,, heads up.. I changed all crank an oil sensors, but hear me out,, I purchased crankshaft position sensor an all my sensors from Amazon... so could that be my issue???? Point being is,, when ever I change the crankshaft position sensor that's located on the transmission behind the passenger wheel,, when I change it,, check engine light goes off for how ever many miles I drive it,,, but once I shut it off an start back up,, check engine light is back on,,, but if I disconnect the battery for 15min without changing anyparts... once I start it back up check engine light pretty much comes back on asap.... plus now that car also has a mind of its own,, I have driven the 2010 camry in about 8 hours,, I can go out to the car now with no keys an roll down all the windows,,, so there's obviously a ground issue,,, but could that ground issue also be why check engine light is on an why car start when it wants to,, so as of now,, I can go to the car am sometimes it will start an sometimes it will just turn over an not start,, it starts when it wants to,, no clicking signs for bad battery,, no clicking it always turns over but sometimes won't start,, anyway I know it's time for a new car,, but I had this car since 77k an now got 314k on it an I swear if you drove it without looking at miles an then I ask you how many miles you thought was on it,, I bet anything that anyone an everyone would say the car has about 100k on it or lil under,, still drives str8 an smooth,, an obviously I replaced the shocks and stuff...
