'Time-traveling' James Webb Space Telescope sees galaxy 3 times in same observation - See it in 4K

Ғылым және технология

The James Webb Space Telescope captured massive galaxy cluster RX J2129, located about 3.2 billion light-years away. A ‘supernova-hosting galaxy’ can be seen three times, at 3 different points in time, due to gravitational lensing.

It's crazy to think that what we're basically seeing is things that are still in the past.

3.2 billion years ago is what we are seeing. And vice versa.

I wish I could go back in time and look at people's faces when, Albert Einstein said that you could see behind another massive object. I know it was proven during a Solar Eclipse by another scientist trying to prove Einstein wrong. Lol. It is truly amazing how Albert's mind worked and to have the understanding about gravity. People today still struggle very hard on understanding gravity and spacetime.

So, what is being shown here is frozen moments in time? Does this prove the theory that if one could move fast enough and far enough, look back at Earth, one could see moments of history?

These are not frozen moments. But in theory you can see the past if you go faster than light. Just like if you go faster than sound, you can hear yourself from the past.
