Maybe the attack Titan this whole time represents what Ymir was not. She never fought back against the king and gave her life to protect him. The attack Titan could have been created as one of the 9 shifters to represent the emotional feeling of freedom and fighting back that ymir could never bring herself to do. Then when Grish tells the Reece family about the attack Titan special ability, the reason they don’t know anything about it is because the subjects of Ymir with royalty have never know the action of freedom against their royal bindings to the king. The attack Titan represents a different path in which case Ymir with the founder kills the king and uses her power to obtain freedom. The thing Eren can do not being a Royal and having the power to look forward. Where as Ymir and his Royal subjects ALWAYS look back at the past.

Having each shifter represent a different emotion manifested, when I made that comment I had tunnel vision for just the attack Titan. But this has me really thinking. I’m gonna get a white board out and see if I can get access to the manga for some evidence to back up the reason for each shifter manifestation. This has potential. Thank you everyone for liking the post and commenting! Very much appreciated! If anyone has any ideas for which emotion represents what shifter please leave a comment!

I'm not sure how it was depicted in the manga, but in the anime, I interpreted it as him having nothing to lose now and understanding Eren's rage to keep moving forward.

My theory as to why grisha gave eren the attack titan. Let's start when grisha is talking to Zeke "you gotta stop eren, he gonna do the bad stuff" and then tries to go home to find his family. But the home is lost and the out most wall has been breached. He finds eren in a refugee camp and asked eren where carla is at. Eren informs him carla has been eaten by a titan. Grisha is like "ight, cool, fuck Marley, fuck this planet." Grisha is upset because he lost his family a second time due to Marley and this time he was gonna do it right and be a proper dad so that makes him even more angry. So since he saw what eren would do he agrees with it now and then proceeds to give his titan to eren. I mean, this is the most logical reason why in my opinion.

maybe it's some sort of paradox time stuff. In a blink of an eye, Grisha still has free will and is not consumed by rage or has fully taken in the Founder's will. Grisha fears the future Eren will bring, but maybe it's because he saw part of that future and not the finale of it, but after that moment where the hug stopped, he might've saw the finale of that future and found one where everyone was free (though.....he probably saw the few short years of peace if we see the ending in the manga). He might've come to the conclusion that sacrifices were to be taken, but at least the freedom would be all worth it again knowing how the manga ends, he probably saw the few short years of peace and not the next years of war tension and the war that happened and resurgence of the Tree.

I dont know if this theory would be plausible but i feel like i remember it being discussed once: what if eren sents memories to grisha of a future that eren specifically wanted? I dont know if that would be a logical theory but it could be considered. Eren wanted the future, to activate the rumbling and destroy the rest of humanity, to happen, so he couldve sent those memories to grisha, but unbeknownst to grisha it couldve been a future that wasnt destined to happen, only what eren wanted? By that logic it was grisha who set part of erens plan into motion, he was just a necessary piece to the puzzle. Feel free to correct me or respond to this theory

Two ways for this to work. A.) time isn’t linear for the attack titan line. There is no “this came first and this next”, it all happens at the same instant. B.) grisha actually didn’t kill the royal family *originally* but still ultimately gave Erin his titan powers. But the moment Erin gained those titan powers, everything was rewritten the way we saw. I think A.) makes more sense just because kruger saw memories too. So it’s implied that the future attack Titans are already determined. Which means everything is happening all at once.

Yeah I guess I'm struggling with Eren influencing Grisha in this situation because we're saying the only reason Grisha went through with getting the founding titan was because of this memory from Eren coaxing him to do it... That memory only exists for Eren to share with Grisha if Eren already possessed the founding titan allowing Zeke to access the power to peer into Grisha's memories...

The attack titan can send memories to past users. Eren sent his memories of being in the paths with zeke and speaking to grisha. Grisha could hear eren because eren sent his memories back in time. However he needed zeke to play the memory to him using the founding titan power which can see all of time but not affect it at all. Whereas by using the attack titans power eren was able to convince his father to kill the reis family. All of these events were set in stone from the beginning. Eren was always going to convince grisha to steal the founding titan. Eren saw himself convincing grisha when he kissed historias hand and saw himself with zeke. That’s why he played along with zekes plan to be taken to that point where he actually manipulates his father into stealing the founding titans power. Also that’s how eren Kruger knew of armin and mikasa. Eren sent those memories to eren Kruger so that when he saw grishas memories he was bacislly sending a message to himself to keep fighting for armin and mikasa

It's not destiny. It's a time loop. "If I lose it all outside the walls I'll live to die another day" Eren has repeated the same actions on different time loops. Each time he died he restarts as a child waking up by Mikasa

(Btw I don't remember if its protect or take care.) I think one thing we are forgetting is the "protect Mikasa and Armin" part when Grisha was given the attack titan. Maybe after the emotional part will Zeke, Eren just snapped those memories from Grisha and made him focus on "protect Mikasa and Armin" and Grisha just knew that Eren could do that

I personally think that the interaction between Eren and Grisha was purely done through the paths. Eren manipulated Zeke to take control of the founding titan and take both of them through the paths into Grishas memories. Eren needed the power of the paths to interact with Grisha and force him to take the founder, that’s why going along with Zekes plan was so important. Plus, correct me if I’m wrong, but I don’t remember it ever being stated that the attack titan has the ability to send memories back to previous attack titan users. Correct on that one.
