0:42 Overview
1:15 Explanation of what my friend is doing in similar situation
3:04 "Do you think I should get another job?"
4:38 "Should I get a full-time IT job while going to WGU?"
5:03 "I'd like to finish in one term"
6:48: "I'm concerned about leaving my current job too soon because it has good benefits"
7:25 Outro
A lot of it depends on so many different things.
Might be useful to other people who are in similar situations
Maybe you don't have a kid, but maybe you have a job that you don't want to leave and are wondering how to transition
I'll structure this video in the following way:
First) I actually have a friend in real life who is in almost the exact same situation as you, so I'll talk about what she's doing.
Next, I'll kind of answer/address the different parts of your comment in order:
1) Do you think I should get a part time it job while still working my 8-5 and doing wgu?
2) Or should I try to get a full time job in it while I do wgu.
3) I would like to finish in 1 term.
4) My current job is remote and has great benefits and that's why I'm concerned about leaving it too soon.

    So, I went to school and completed my bachelors while being active Army and still going out on "work trips." This is also with a wife and two children. My schedule was: Wednesday: 1 hour answering discussion posts Friday: 1 hour answering discussion posts Sunday: Wake up around 8 AM and finish discussion posts and all the homework from that week which usually resulted in me going to sleep around 2AM. My wife was great and kept the kids busy during this time. For 4 years I gave up every Sunday and sometimes when I was out on those "work trips" I would take my phone and laptop, walk out into the woods or wherever I was until I got service, and tether my laptop to my phone to complete assignments until my battery died. My points is if you want it bad enough then you'll knock it out and make time for it. Just get started and you'll figure it out along the way. Getting started is the hardest part.

    I have a bachelors degree in political science and English from the university of North Carolina. I’m a single parent and was in nursing school while working part time as a certified nursing assistant and medical assistant. Covid hit really hard in my area and all the students that were in nursing school or placed on the waitlist I’m only nine months away from graduating to become a licensed practical nurse and take the NCLEX. I was thinking about enrolling in Western Governors University when I get my tax refund and save up enough money to quit my full-time job and complete my bachelors degree within six months and healthcare management. This video really really helps. Right now my full-time job is a housekeeping supervisor with a real estate company and I absolutely hate it. I quit being a certified nursing assistant because the pay is extremely low in North Carolina and during the pandemic we were killing ourselves taken care of COVID-19 patients I had a burn out. I wish there in my burnout I knew about Western Governors University because I was out of work for almost 4 months last year my body just could not take it that’s how I ended up with my job I have now that I hate

I interviewed this guy on my channel who went from a Martial Arts instructor/Personal Trainer to hopping into IT and immediately making over 94k: kzread.info/dash/bejne/onimk8prj8mal9I.html Basically the recipe for that, is to have the fundamentals down really well, coupled with a specialization (cloud, coding, etc.). Once you have those skills, you have to focus hard on conveying them (resume, portfolio, interview ability, etc.), then you can start out around where you're at now or more. After watching the above interview, I would watch the 3rd video in the free section of my course, sorry that it's kind of salesy, but I talk about how to break into IT in more depth: coursecareers.com/joshmadakor Hope this helps

  • @JoshMadakor

    @JoshMadakor

    2 жыл бұрын

    Both are good options and neither will make or break your career. I guess it's whatever you're most comfortable with. If the BSCSIA happens to be more appealing to you than the Management Degree, you could pick up a few certs that are part of that degree on your own and take the necessary steps to get an entry level IT job. Then pick up the BSCSIA later and finish it up. OR just bang out the ITM degree, either way, your experience is going to end up being the most important thing and "A degree is a degree" once you start getting certs and experience. Sorry I typed a lot, in summary, both your plans are good. I would just do whatever you're most comfortable with in terms of time and cost :) Edit: Not sure if you've watched these videos yet, but some of them might be helpful: How to get a job in IT (checklist): kzread.info/dash/bejne/Z6iczdl7eb3WmJc.html How to pass any IT exam: kzread.info/dash/bejne/eoF3qrGPdNLAmco.html Do you really need a degree for IT: kzread.info/dash/bejne/o42j09Bvn9qqlaw.html How to generate experience for your resume: kzread.info/dash/bejne/h5WnqrKKYLmof8Y.html Top 5 Cyber Security Projects: kzread.info/dash/bejne/gm2r3JKMpMjKj6w.html

    How do individual courses compare between Study vs WGU? If the WGU courses can be finished fairly quickly, because of simply needing to pass an exam- I would imagine a course within Study would take longer than the same transferrable credit/course in WGU. Would it save time simply doing the courses in WGU? I know you mentioned completing 2 courses within WGU the first day. That doesn't seem like it would be doable with Study as you said it takes you on average 4.5 days for those courses. I'm trying to plan out the most efficient way to go about doing this.

  • @JoshMadakor

    @JoshMadakor

    2 жыл бұрын

    _>Would it save time simply doing the courses in WGU?_ Sometimes! It depends on the program/course. Study(.)com has more work, but the exam portion is usually more forgiving and less stressful. Study(.)com can also be completed _relatively_ quickly as well. _>I know you mentioned completing 2 courses within WGU the first day. That doesn't seem like it would be doable with Study as you said it takes you on average 4.5 days for those courses._ Yeah, what I did is not really normal as in 2 classes per day is quite fast. I would say about a week per class is doable on SDC if you hurry through it. The _good_ thing about SDC is that it is relatively inexpensive and low-stakes/lower stress and lets you reduce the time to complete the actual "WGU part" of your degree. (maybe reducing 2 terms to 1 term and saving thousands). Hope this helps!

  • @JoshMadakor

    @JoshMadakor

    2 жыл бұрын

    Hey Julie! It really depends on the person I guess. I went to a traditional community college for a while and I really valued my time there. If you have the luxury of time and money and actually WANT that kind of experience, I would recommend going for it. As far as the comprehensiveness of the education, that's a really difficult thing to measure. In my opinion, whether or not you are attending an online school or brick and mortar school, you pretty much get out of it what you want. IMO, the level of education from WGU is fine. I even found it more "up-to-date" than my B&M school. The social experience at my CC/B&M school was much better though. Sorry, I said a whole bunch of nothing here, haha.
