TIME IS RUNNING OUT TO STOP CONVERSION THERAPY

SUBMIT COMMENT TODAY: www.federalregister.gov/docum...
This video encourages viewers to submit public comments to the FDA by May 28, 2024, in support of a proposed ban on the use of "electrical stimulation devices" for "self-injurious or aggressive behavior," particularly in autistic children. The host discusses how such practices, akin to conversion therapy, are harmful and unethical ways of trying to change neurodivergent behaviors. They emphasize the need for greater acceptance and accommodation of autistic individuals instead of coercive attempts to make them conform to societal norms through punitive measures like electroshock therapy. The video calls for comments affirming that this proposed ban is a step in the right direction toward protecting the wellbeing of autistic people.

Florida needs a statewide ban in ABA "therapy" and conversion "therapy". Our lawmakers and medical providers denying/refusing us MTF/FTM trans medical care, need to go to court and possibly jail.

I went through ABA. Not shock torture, more psychological torture. Where I live it's just college students who want a quick buck. Beat ABA person I had was an ex teacher. I am doing so much better after having to unlearn the years of not trusting myself. Sometimes I still even fall back. ABA is based off Pavloc, mostly the rewards part. But I'm not a dog, I am a human. It's literally designed to treat autistic kids as pets. Or as if eye contact and customer service is somehow biological instead of societal. It made to "fix" autistic people. And what hurts the worst is when you can't be fixed.

it is horrible that aba was conducted that way for you. I think that it should primarily be used through agreement between the autistic and the therapist on what behaviors they will work on. If you chose what you worked on and when it would be akin to behavioral therapy for OCD or phobias. Therapy is best as collaboration.

These children need a tender hand to guide them not to harm themselves. They need love, compassion, and understanding. They don't f*cking need medieval torture.

I wish we would stop calling it "therapy". It's not only literal torture but it's an insult to real therapy and therapists. Queer people are going to be shipped off to conversion -therapy- *_torture camps_* EDIT: didnt even know about autistic conversion torture, but it doesnt surprise me at all. My comment also applies to autism as well Sincerely, a queer autistic person

I, as a fellow queer autistic person, second this sentiment expressed. Torture is not therapy.

It's like referring to the Soviet "Reeducation" Camps as "Gulag Therapy".

Well then. Seems that we have a chance to stop one of the many major 80+ problems that we have to deal with. I’ll submit a comment. Conversion “therapy” is so evil that if a villain who is obsessed with forcing people into suffering from it doesn’t exist in fiction yet, that should be changed.

Thanks for sharing this. I made my comment. Im autistic and queer, and I definitely don’t want to see this still being a thing if and when project 2025 is activated.

There was a company trying to recruit me for ABA therapy and I saw red flags. I'm currently a CNA at a hospital

I submitted a comment. I was diagnosed only a few years ago so I never went through ABA or anything like that, but what I've learned and heard about is horrific and nobody, least of all _children,_ should be submitted to this torture just to make neurotypicals' lives easier. And yes, that's exactly what ABA and electric shocks are for. We're expected to accommodate THEM instead of them accommodating US and our DISABILITY.

I wasn't diagnosed as Autistic until later in life. And as much as i would've liked to have gotten diagnosed earlier, I'm happy that I never got put into an ABA program as that would've screwed me up even worse than I am now. And I have no idea how conversion "therapy" is still even legal. You're literally forcing people to not be or do something that is 100% natural and part of who they are.

I wish that ABA was professionally restricted to be akin to the recs for clicker training with cats. All rewards which can be rejected outright, only 'punishment' is rare and moving to a less problematic situation.

You can stay anonymous completely or select any country. I also don't see any reason that a comment from a different country would be treated any differently.

My nephew does ABA twice a week, but I don't see what the harm is? They seem to just be teaching him about empathy and how to be mindful of other people's personal boundaries. I'm also curious what the electrotherapy entails. Not that I think it shouldn't be banned, it totally should.
