TERR0RISM WINS: Target Drops Pride Merch After Threats

Ойын-сауық

Target is facing backlash after announcing it will scale back its LGBTQ+ Pride merchandise and displays in stores this June, only offering them online and at select locations based on sales data. The move comes after last year's conservative outrage over Target's LGBTQ-themed products, which included threats and minor property damage. However, the decision has sparked criticism for caving to intimidation tactics and potentially making LGBTQ+ people feel less accepted, especially youth. Adding to safety concerns, the FBI and Department of Homeland Security have issued a warning that foreign terrorist organizations may target Pride events and venues this year, compounding an already "heightened threat environment" in the US. This video explores the implications of Target's decision in the context of rising anti-LGBTQ+ extremism and violence.

I used to work at target and their "allyship" is surface level at best. It was cool to be able to have my name on my badge before I went through the legal process, but target is still a capitalist hell-hole that pulls scheduling shit to make sure workers stay under the hours they need to get benefits or overtime even when it's needed. A lot of the core message of the original gay liberation movement was also very anti-capitalist. Also shout out to GIlbert Baker (Z"l) who made the original Pride flag.

Around 7 mins you ask the question 'why don't they hire private security' and the answer is very simple. It's not homophobia or queerphobia, it's simply MONEY. They likely applied a simple formula: projected profit from LGBTQ+ merchandise - (cost of hiring private security x number of locations) = profits. If the cost of hiring security is higher than the money they would take in, then they won't do it. Because nothing matters more to these giant corporations than the Almighty Dollar. The only reason corporations like Target started catering to the queer community in the first place is because we made it profitable for them. Now that they can't make enough money off us, they don't want to do it any more. It's shitty and greedy, but its the frustrating truth

Regarding "Why aren't you just hiring some security guys ... check if all your cameras are working?" There have been instances where people have been threatened, beaten up, even murdered in broad daylight for *asking* someone to put on a mask during a raging pandemic. Target would have to put their security guards in SWAT armor for them to feel relatively safe about stopping domestic terrorists from destroying rainbow t-shirts in the stores. And cameras won't do shit. Those aholes are literally filming themselves doing that shit and upload it proudly to their social media in HD and 60fps. What's a security camera compared to that? They aren't afraid of getting caught. Some of them may even count on it to become a martyr or whatever goes on in those rotten brains. For as little as it's worth, my heart goes out to all queer people stuck in red states.

No because the people who would do those actions can just travel to a target that sells pride merch also those types of people can live in blue states too. So it's not protecting anyone. If they actually cared about safety they could have sold entirely online. It's not cus safety but profits. When that whole stanley cup thing happened and people got hurt badly I didn't see any product removals from stores, I saw them paying for security. As the stanley cups made them so much profit they couldn't remove it from the shelves. Pride merch in a red state doesn't make much profit so it would be cheaper to remove it from the sheleves then hire security.

This is a really interesting choice, and absolute rubbish. They’re a company, I get that they need to look out for their employees as well. But not selling products or limiting them to liberal areas? Seriously? Giving in to (borderline) terrorism isn’t the right course of action. It mentions the same point in the video, but security should be ideal. Target makes *billions* annually, they can make room in their budget for extra security.

Target cares more about bad pr and spending less money rather then caring about queer people or the safety of it's employees. Like most of last year was just a relatively harmless fools yelling into a camera in a few stores and maybe knocking stuff down. If they actually cared they pay for more security like they payed for security guards for the whole stanley cup thing Also love how they kinda just exposed the fact it's just an issue of profit for them. The products were not selling in a certain region so they are only focusing on regions that profit but of course it would be bad they removed pride stuff just because they are greedy and don't want to loose any money, so they made an excuse about it being a safety issue.
