Time for Recovery | Paul Seller's Vlog 20

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

At different stages in our lives, we can be impacted by an act of aggressive violence that goes deep into the very soul of our being. It doesn't always need to be toward us - it can be to others too.
This vlog started just after I was attacked by a middle-aged runner. This was because of a brief altercation where he forced two small children and their mother off the official cycle path when he could and should have moved to his rightful lane to allow them to continue on the safety of a designated and mandatory cycleway where they were well protected.
After confronting him very briefly with no raised voice or swearing changed my life through an act of intentional aggression. I want to explain why and some of what resulted in this vlog here.

Having been an EMT and ski patroller for the past 30 years I find your blog an excellent description of the recovery process. Broken ribs can be, and are treated, as a very serious, and possibly, life threatening injury. Thankfully you were in good physical condition leading up to the injury. As a further note, here in the US, an assault on an individual 65 or older garners serious felony charges.

I like how you see the beauty in what some might consider ordinary things, such as a budding leaf and flower. You show us that we’re all capable of making anything from furniture to cellos if we put our mind to it, and remind us that making is part of what defines us as human beings. You’ve also reminded us that kindness and compassion is more powerful and prevalent than we might realize. Glad to see you’re doing better and I can’t wait to see what you work on next.

It was because of him that I suspected I might be able to get into woodworking even though I'd mostly just done computer stuff all my life and never had a chance to train with him before he reposed. Your videos were the first that I found as I tried to begin to teach myself and I think it's fair to say that it's been life changing to be able to build these skills and work with my hands and hand tools. Thank you for what you do, and for making this sort of video as well.

Sir, your messages here are both gutting and uplifting. Your message about healthcare workers and Good Samaritans are proof that goodness exists among us and your description of drawing buds is an enlightening reminder to seek beauty in our everyday travels. The fact that someone assaulted you is deeply disturbing and infuriating. I feel for you. It’s a stark reminder that our actions have consequences beyond the moment. I hope there is justice for the incident and something in the universe makes that person realize his actions are not okay. I am tempted to wish for that to experience equal or greater pain than he inflicted upon you, but I don’t believe that is healthy for us to hold grudges or perpetuate a cycle of violence. I do hope that person is held accountable for their actions and learns from their pitiful malfeasance. I’m sorry you had to endure such an evil event and painful recovery. I admire your courage to share with us your thoughts and emotions. I respect deeply your positivity, your commitment to your health, and the kindness from within that exudes through every second of your decades of videos, every page of your texts, every pencil line of yours sketches, and every shaving of your joinery. To Your Health! -Castor

I am praying for your continued healing and that the hateful criminal responsible for your injuries will be brought to justice. With three broken ribs there is likely a lot of bruising of muscles and such, so, it makes sense that you are experiencing a lot of pain during your recovery. I am happy to hear that you are being careful with the pain medication as it won't alleviate all of the pain and it is extremely toxic to your body and brain generally and to your kidneys specifically. Your nature drawings and observations are wonderful. I find myself encouraged to practice my own drawing skills and getting out into the natural world more often. God bless you, Brother.

Blessings to you Paul. I fell a couple weeks ago, tripped over a garden hose. Thought I broke a rib, but it was just sprained. I can't imagine the pain you were (are) in. I'm so sorry.

I feel a bit selfish and glib for pointing this out, but... I think that _recovery from an injury_ is a pleasure that doesn't get enough attention in our culture, and the sight of you at 11:21 reaching up to smooth your hair, effortlessly, gave me a small rush of joy. I know that getting there cost you days of misery, and I got it for nothing, but I've had the experience too. Being laid up for days with a fever, then finding myself awake in bed _able to think._ Nursing an injury for weeks, then regaining the ability to walk -- walk! -- and making my way to the kitchen to make and devour a ham sandwich. Oh, the power! Yes, my friends think me peculiar.

Paul I can’t believe this happened to you. There are some horrible people in the world and you unfortunately crossed paths with one. Hope you have a speedy recovery. Looking forward to seeing you back in the shop.

Oh, Paul. Even from Oklahoma in the US, I can feel your lovely spirit. I'm so sorry about your injury. Broken ribs are no laughing (sorry) matter. My partner broke 2 ribs, and said everything you have about symptoms and the ups and downs of recovery. Continue to be patient, and don't over do. Unfortunately, it will likely take longer than you would expect. Sending much light and healing energy your way. I so appreciate all the valuable knowledge you have shared. As an older woman, I'm just learning the craft. Thanks for sharing your wisdom and spirit.
