Time - Euphoric Digitone Ambient recorded to cassette
Музыка
A mastered version of this track is part of my 'Person EP': jogginghouse.bandcamp.com/alb...
Probably the most 'wall of sound' track I ever made. Hope you enjoy it. Digitone recorded straight to cassette. The video goes in and out of sync due to tape warble, nothing I can do about that.

Lovely music as always... my DN Keys arrived the afternoon before being admitted to hospital to have a replacement knee... so no dancing or stamping out a rhythm.... but surfing around your channel to get ideas and inspiration as I lie here with a knee the size of a balloon and just enough morphine to make everything a little... errrrr swirly is rather an odd experience.... 🤪🥳😂 Thanks...👌🏻

Just bought a digitone, inspired by this track in particular.. would and person EP have been on my spring playlist.. I think it's sweet what these machines can do, but when I listen to it that doesn't matter.. this takes me to another place, my mother has been struggling with stage 4 colon cancer and this has been helping me deal positively.. thank you again.

Thank you so much, Kyle! I'm very sorry for your mother‘s condition and hope she get's better. But I'm also glad my music could help you a bit. I can very much relate to your situation, actually got off the phone with the hospital just minutes ago. There is nothing we can do but try to be positive. It's tough and can be heartbreaking. But we can also grow as persons. I wish you all the strength in the world and will try to support you with new tunes whenever I can. 🙏

TheDetroitSound Thank you. I wouldn‘t mind a compressor of course. But compression is not a big part of my music, so it is not as important for me as for people who make more beat oriented music, I guess.

All that sound is amazing from that little box,.. Why to cassette though? Is there something you enjoy about the sonic tone of cassette's. Was just wandering because I still record on a Tascam 424, have never made the switch to DAW.
@JoggingHouse

676bun I use cassettes and the DAW as well. These specific tunes are very spontaneous. I like that with the tape recorder the setup stays suoer slim and I can get it going in a minute or two. It‘s very freeing.
Nice melodies. I only use the headphone out. But those double jacks really do make a difference. Time for me to pick up a few converters from the supervolt store I think. 👍
@mr_dfuse

They make a difference in quality? I also only use the headphone out on my Digitakt.

Great stuff! I listened to some of your stuff on Bandcamp, really good! I like the idea of the tapes, but really would have loved it on vinyl. Any plans for that?
@JoggingHouse
6 жыл бұрын
MySecretMachine Thanks so much. I‘d love to release on vinyl. But since I‘d have to produce a higher amount, it‘s a bit risky as they might not sell out. That‘s why I focus on tapes at the moment. You can get them in way lower numbers.
@dep1001

Yea, sure. That makes sense. Can I ask how you record your videos. Which camera do you use and where does the sound from the Digitone go? It's really awesome how you make a full length song without a 'Song-mode' on the Digitone... very inspiring! Thanks!
@JoggingHouse
6 жыл бұрын
MySecretMachine I use a Canon EOS 650D. Fairly standard. I‘m sure there are many better options available these days. I record the Digitakt directly into the tape recorder and film the whole thing. Then I rewind the tape, record it into the computer and combine the sound with the video. It‘s the only way to have both audio and video live and with the tape sound. But they will never be completely in sync. It works for my kind of music, but tracks with more drums may look weird because of that.

Nice one....i think, i have to try some Records on Cassette as well. Sounds somewhere between "Tron Legacy" and "Interstellar". Very nice.

Beautiful. PS Noone told me Digitone had a sequencer.. :) But I already have too many toys anyway... :)
sounds good! so the output of the digitone is routed to the cassette player in record mode, then to your DAW? BTW, where'd you get a cassette player?
@JoggingHouse

Paolo Salomon I record into the cassette recorder, rewind, and play back into the computer. Very, very simple stuff. It's a Marantz PMD430
Do you have any advice on getting into tape? Like does that one play through? Or do you have to record it first & then play it back /record it?
@JoggingHouse

Chris T Richardson I record a few takes to tape, then rewind and record the tape into the computer.
Love this! Just got a digitone I can’t wait to run it through my Portastudio. How do you record the audio ? Is it live with the phone or do you record and sync it to the video ? The quality is really nice
@JoggingHouse
5 жыл бұрын
Jay Dee Thank you. I record the audio straight to cassette. And then record the cassette into my computer to match it with the video. You can't perfectly sync audio and video due to tape warble. But I don‘t mind.
@SvintMvrcus

Jogging House awesome thank! You can’t really tell anyways. Btw idk how much experience you have with other tape recording gear but what made you choose the PMD 430 over something like a Portastudio ?
@JoggingHouse
5 жыл бұрын
Jay Dee They are very different machines. The PMD is a stereo recorder while something like a portastudio is a multitracker. The latter has more tracks and can overdub to compose music layer by layer. A stereo recorder does not have these options but uses more space on the tape for each track leading to a better audio quality. So it depends on what you want to achieve. I also have a fostex multitracker similar to a portastudio but I would not use it for simple stereo recording like in this case.
@SvintMvrcus
5 жыл бұрын
Jogging House oh ok! I have the Portastudio 424 mkii but I feel I’m not getting the quality I want from it recording wise and I’d like something a little more simple like what you have. I found one on offerup for like $300 and I was thinking of getting it. But I hear a lot of them have bad flutter issues.
Really digging this, as well as all of your other Digitakt/Digitone ambient videos. Thanks for sharing! How many patterns went into this one?
@JoggingHouse
6 жыл бұрын
lameaim Thank you so much! All my Takt/Tone tunes are made with just one pattern. I find it easier to keep track that way.
@lameaim
6 жыл бұрын
I suspected as much - never see any pattern changes happen, though I suppose you could have set a chain up beforehand. Do you intend to do any videos with the Digitakt and Digitone paired together?
@JoggingHouse
6 жыл бұрын
lameaim Yes, most definitely. I just like to learn gear on it‘s own first. At some point both will be playing together in blissful harmony.
Hey, man. I need a little help. I've been researching a lot the Elektron machines, specifically, the Digitakt and the Digitone. I'm really stuck on which one to buy because they both are amazing. However, I "kinda" don't care about the fact they are like groove boxes. I just want a piece of gear that I can treat as an instrument. I want to be able to create sounds and use it in a track in a way that people would ask me how I did it. I want to create chords and textures to add something unique to my projects. So, in your most honest opinion, what would you say that is the best option between the two? :D Thank you! Great job on all of your tracks, they are really inspirational!
@JoggingHouse
6 жыл бұрын
André Melo Thanks for the kind words. The Digitakt is a sampler, so you can‘t create sounds from scratch with it. Of course you can shape and manipulate recorded sounds. The Digitone is a synthesizer so you can create sounds out if nothing. It sounds like this is what you want to do. Both machines are fantastic and not in competition against each other as they do very different things.
This is tied with "circles" as my favorite song of yours. Please release this on Bandcamp eventually
