Thriller was big because of Michael Jackson lets be clear. We give props to Quincy yes. But the biggest song off thriller is Billie Jean and Beat it written by Michael. Thriller became big after Michael decided to do the short films. Not only was the music great but MJ danced, had great videos, did Motown 25, his aura added to that success. Lets not forget.

@@davidwhitehead8860 no, see now you are giving all the credit to Quincy. Who wrote Dont Stop till you get Enough, Working Day and Night, Billie Jean, Beat it, Wanna Be Startin Something, Smooth Criminal etc etc? Some of these songs were written strictly from Michael before Quincy’s input. The demos are on KZread for proof Quincy Jones also had nothing to do with the iconic dances Michael did, or the iconic music video moments that added to the success of his albums. We give him credit for the music side of things but we can’t give all the credit to him which is what people seem to do to discredit Michael.

@@darkskinwhite that goes for any artist. But my point is people that don’t acknowledge MJ’s part in the success, its always credit given to Quincy when in reality after Michael Quincy made zero memorable music, Michael went on to break records and create hits after him

We really have to give the credit to that to both mj and Quincy equally because they both feeded off of each others energy and both made the album crazy together, without either the album would’ve still been good but wouldn’t have been as ground breaking as it was if they didn’t work together, they saw the success of off the wall and realized they can evolve that energy further

When Timberland talks about thriller, Quincy Jones is not necessarily the first person I think about other than MJ. The genius on that album was Rod Temperton HANDS DOWN. Timberland is good but there is no equivalent for Rod or MJ today.

MJ and Quincys 3 albums were a perfect storm of right place at the right time for both of them. What yall don't realise is that Thriller was Michael Jacksons FIFTH solo album. Off the wall was a humongous record and without Quincy, he might've never reached those heights.

Nobody is denying his involvement but we can also say the same thing about Quincy. Without Michael he wouldn’t have reached his creative heights either. People don’t realise the success Michael had went beyond the music, it was his dancing, his videos, his iconic fashion, his auraa. Because let’s not forget Quincy went on a whole press run in the 90s claiming that he was going to make Tevin Campbell into “the next Michael Jackson” and failed miserably.

Quincy was already a successful producer, that's why Michael asked him to produce his next album! That album ( Off the Wall)was pivotal because Michael was maturing into adulthood that was the next phase in his life. And during the late 1970s it was perfect timing that they met, because Michael was on a come up, and Quincy was at the peak of his powers as a producer and had the right connections. They really complimented each other, two geniuses who met at the perfect time, and it continued on with Thriller!

This is when young people focus more on the front man, Quincy or MJ, rather than what was really going on behind the scenes. Once again, Rod Templeton, was the genius on thriller. Quincy Jones deserves credit for asking for Rod’s help. Please google this guy, so you can understand his enduring impact on music in America and abroad.

I understand what you’re saying and Rod is THE guy!!! Timbaland is talking about the album as a whole which Quincy Jones is responsible for as the album’s producer. There is no thriller without Rod as far as the song but overall at the same time there is no Thriller without Quincy Jones. You remove him you remove Rod Temperton and majority of the team. So Quincy adding Rod to the team was a giant “production move” without that move no Thriller. One of the main characteristics that makes a great producer is having the right people in the room that’s creating the record that in itself can make or break an album. So the context of him “making thriller” is correct he assemble the team!!! So again I understand what you’re saying Rod Temperton is the genius behind not just Thriller MJ period and countless other artists including Quincy.
