Tim's New Toys - Autumn 2019

Ғылым және технология

Tim has been visiting various trade fairs over the Autumn, and here he presents some of the newest items that he has acquired for his collection. From a mini leather strop with allows you to sharpen a disposable razor, to some new items created via 3D printing, a novel balancing act, a very elaborate greeting card, and some unusual art from Japan.

Little known fact: Every time Tim utters 'heh' he's actually mentioning Ḥeḥ, an ancient Egyptian deity that is the personification of infinity or eternity. Ḥeḥ originally meant "flood", referring to the watery chaos that the Egyptians believed existed before the creation of the world. The Egyptians envisioned this chaos as infinite, in contrast with the finite created world, so Ḥeḥ personified this aspect of the primordial waters. Tim's invocation of this deity is done with the intent to once again return the world to chaos, through the infinite flooding of the waters of the Nile.

Those pixelated classic paintings would make monster jigsaw puzzles. Not if cut in traditional jigsaw shapes, but with each color being block of color as a separate individual piece

Those postcards at the end were astonishing! The first and fourth ones I got even close up, and I couldn't get the second one at all, but the third one only clicked when you pulled it away. Absolutely blew my mind!

#2 was the only one I didn't recognize, though I did vaguely see the shape of a woman when he pull it away from the camera. The Scream on the other hand I recognized while it was still up close, but the illusion didn't really work nearly as well for that one. I think the "pixels" were a little to chunky for a painting with mostly curved forms.

I think a lot of people got it. You only need a few key details, like the blue headband, the rising wave and the open mouth. As soon as you recognize those features the game is up.
