Tim Minchin | If You Open Your Mind Too Much Your Brain Will Fall Out (Take My Wife)

Комедия

To help you through your self-isolation or quarantined state, here's an anthem from the genius songwriter and star of Jesus Christ Superstar, Tim Minchin.
OH AND REMEMBER TO WASH YOUR HANDS
Taken from his 2008 special F*cking Rock.
If anyone can show me one example in the history of the world
Of a single psychic who has been able to prove
Under reasonable experimental conditions
That they are able to read minds
And if anyone can show me one example in the history of the world
Of a single astrologer who has been able to prove
Under reasonable experimental conditions
That they can predict future human events by interpreting celestial signs
And if anyone can show me one example in the history of the world
Of a single Homoeopathic Practitioner who has been able to prove
Under reasonable experimental conditions
That solutions made up of infinitely tiny particles of good stuff
Dissolved repeatedly into relatively huge quantities of water
Has a consistently higher medicinal value
Than a similarly administered placebo
And if anyone can show me one example in the history of the world
Of a single spiritual person who has been able to show
Either empirically or logically the existence of a higher power
With has any consciousness or interest in the human race or ability to
Punish or reward humans for there moral choices or that there is any
Reason other than fear to believe in any version of an afterlife

"having a nail hammered through his feet, the very feet that Tony provided him with, as a punishment for having a sort of schizophrenic discourse with a god who was created by man to explain the existence of feet in the absense of the knowledge of the existence of Tony" is one of the most brilliant lines anyone has ever come up with.

coreycox2345 Perhaps we have a different understanding of Tim’s position - he makes it pretty clear hear and elsewhere that he does not believe in any god because he sees no evidence for one. I haven’t ever heard him make the leap to go “THEREFORE there is no god”. I agree with you, that’s absolutely a positive claim that picks up the burden of a proof; however, merely saying “I’m unconvinced, so I don’t yet believe you” (as I believe Tim does, albeit quite forcefully) is quite different.

coreycox2345 although that’s true, there is no reason whatsoever to believe in the existence of a God, and all reasons to believe there isn’t one... I mean, millions of deaths, hunger, famine, abuse, overall suffering of children all over the world that it’s unthinkable that there is someone that knows it all, could fix it all easily but decides not to. It’s like when a video of child abuse comes online and all ppl say the guy filming without doing nothing is just as guilty and should be held accountable, so if there was a God he would have been just as bad, guilty and accountable, not someone for men to admire and praise.

Arnica gel actually contains the herb, though, unlike many homeopathic remedies that are diluted until there is only water left (and no trace of the original substance), and then the water is somehow made into little sugary pills (still containing the alleged "memory" of the water?). The arnica gel on the other hand contains extracts of two medicinal herbs and also vitamin C, alcohol and glycerol. There is 1X solution of 7% Arnica montana in it -- 1X homeopathic solutions means they are diluted to 1/10 of their original ingredient The other extract is Extract Gaultheria procubens, and I don't know how much Then there is Ascorbyl palmitate (Vitamin C) And Glycerol and Phenoxyethanol So if this works it doesn't really prove the homeopathic principles

Bacteria is evolving constantly. Because we treat bacterial diseases with antibiotics, they die. Some are created with abnormalities as can every living thing (birth defects) sometimes this can be a positive thing, like in this case, a resistance to antibiotics. This means they’re less likely to die from antibiotics. Since they don’t die, they continue to divide and create more with the same abnormality, while the original bacteria without the evolution will die off due to an inability to survive the antibiotics (unless the conditions are well enough for them to continue to thrive)

I think Karen Armstrong is brilliant at highlighting the issues with literal interpretation of religious texts. Ironically the scientific revolutions understandable preoccupation with literal truth in the 19th century seems to have spurred on religious fanatics to interpret the Bible literally rather than as intended, an allegorical text. All religious texts are, and always were, a series of fictional parables to give meaning and direction to life. Confusing mythology with literal truth is religions biggest mistake and means many miss out on a spiritual life because of this outdated interpretation.

The Catholic Church is not against science or the theory of evolution. Many people forget that the man who came up with the Big Bang theory was a catholic priest. And one of the first female mathematicians was a catholic nun. I get some Christian denominations r against science but it’s not wise to assume all r of that mind set. I’m not saying this out of anger. Just want to clarify and inform some people that not all Christians think this way. God Bless, 🌹🕊🌹

Fryzler God created Science which means He is master over it. He is not bound by its laws. If He were bound by it, He would seas to be God. We r made up of cells, bacteria DNA etc. God created all these. Science merely explains the substance of the natural law, unseen to the naked eye. But science has nothing to do with the supernatural law. You can’t measure and define the natural & supernatural law in the same way. For example u can’t measure the temperature in the room with a ruler, but with a thermometer. You need to adapt according to what ur measuring. I pray that makes sense. The Bible is meant to feed the soul and draw it closer to God. To instruct us how to grow in sanctity and to become more like Christ. The Bible is a book which shows us God the Father, teaching us about His love and Mercy. It was never meant to be used as a book of science, it was never meant to be used to interpret cells DNA, elements etc. I mean we acknowledge mathematics, and it’s importance, yet we are never taught algebra in scripture. That’s because that’s not it’s function. The Funktion of scripture is to show us the Face of God, and to transform our souls through meditation and prayer. Through it, God speaks to us, and we learn to here His voice. I pray this makes sense. I understand if u still disagree with me. I’m not saying all this to belittle u in any way. I only want to explain my perspective. I hope it helps u in some kind of way. And please do keep me in ur prayers. God Bless u, and thank u for commenting ☺️🌹🕊🌹 (Ps. Plz excuse any spelling or grammar errors, as I’m dyslexic 😅)

God designed all these things to help us thrive as human beings. I get it if u struggle to believe in a God (I use to be an atheist myself). I just ask that u respect the fact that I do. I’m not here to fight u, since ur not my enemy. God Bless u 🌹🕊🌹

Hey Tim, on an episode of Louis Theroux about autism, he was interviewing a mum of a teenage child with high functioning autism. On the show she didn’t seem very religious and she said he was very low functioning until she took him to a healing service. This surprised me because low functioning autistic kids wouldn’t be effected by placebo or other suggestive manipulations. Check out the episode yourself. The mum could have been mistaken of course and it is certainly is not a scientific account, but it left me wondering.

In this case, science has become the religion which people believe without any proof. For example, evolution according to Darwin's model is generally accepted by people the world over, yet there doesn't exist any evidence of one species becoming another. So a new understanding must be reached. The Sumerians describe the creation of human beings by aliens. The question then becomes who created the aliens? Evolution was proven over 1 hundred years ago. By people trying to disprove it. They set up experiments, they searched the world, dissected specimens and realised that he was right. He got a few bits wrong, but the grand, overarching idea was correct. Then they unlocked the human genome, and found enough evidence to prove it all right, all over again.
