Tim Daly spills all: Téa Leoni, fame, Wings, privacy and why he should gain 40 pounds

Ойын-сауық

#TimDaly , the man who ‘has nothing to say,’ says a lot. Kara and Tim sit down for a heart-to-heart (5th time, friends!) and he jumps right in, talking about his relationship with #tealeoni , social media habits, his hatred for digital menus, professional rejection, #TheSopranos, #Wings, #MadamSecretary and more. Will Tim and Téa come on the show together? Most embarrassing thing? Should he gain 40 pounds? How he fixes smoke detectors? Why does he think he's a Pioneer Woman?

Yes, one of the things we love is their integrity. Totally respect their decision to keep their lives and life together private. Wish them much happiness.

I really loved this!! I don't think I've ever seen/heard Tim speak in a longform medium like this, and I'm very much a fan of it! It surprises me how thoughtful and introspective he is in his day to day life (not to imply anything negative, but it does remind me a lot of his role as Henry McCord). For me, being 22, he will always be my Superman; to this day I can't hear his voice without seeing the Man of Steel lol

I just finished Madam Secretary a few days ago, I hadn't watched it when it was on CBS, but found it on Netflix and decided to watch it, mostly because I have been Tea Leoni fan since Naked Truth, but I found I really enjoyed the whole show, so I was looking for some Tea interviews, but then found this of Tim, and since I found out that the two of them are a couple, I wanted to know more about him too, so I watch this and it was kind of like I was just there watching these two people talking, not as much like the usual interviews that you usually see, it was very down to earth and relaxing! And me I tend to like actors who do come across more down to earth, you know, like sometimes, especially on talk shows, some just seem to still be acting, always putting on a certain persona, no matter what their doing, especially comedians, who tend to have some kind of persona they are always doing, which is why I'm not actually a big fan of most comedians, the ones who started out as a stand up, because they never seem very real. But some dramatic actors can be that way too, sometimes, but with Tim and in some of Tea's I have seen, they do just seem more real, and not acting a certain way all the time, which is nice. And I don't know why it does seem that male and sometimes even female actors who are especially attractive, tend to get overlooked for roles just because they don't have some weird unusual look or something, and even when they are so much better an actor then those that get all the big roles, because they do have a more unusual look or aren't even attractive at all. It's weird!

I just have to say that I LOVE LOVE LOVE this! There’s so much I could say about this and it would probably be way too long for this medium-which leads me to the point(s) I wanted to make. But basically it comes down to feeling like I am a female version of Tim in terms of his responses and I’m amazed at the way it was like a list of things about people and you go, “check….✔️ check….☑️…..check…..✅ ….and there was nothing I could see/feel/hear that I didn’t feel aligned with and that is INCREDIBLY rare in my world. So I’m just sitting here in the aftermath of watching this in awe and wonder at this. I’m still absorbing it. So instead of making this a rambling rant, I’m going to try and simplify it this way: For Tim: here’s a person of INTEGRITY- Authenticity-looking for truth-knowing the difference between a private life and a public one, and the awareness that the kids of today don’t know what that is!!! Holy moly that is the first time I have heard that publicly spoken in a way that is so succinct and real and so dang clear, so thank you for that. I think it is a dangerous trend/path we are on and I do believe it’s very unhealthy for our development as a society. It muddles everything you discussed. How do you know the difference between self esteem and other esteem if you’re not given the time and space to get to know yourself outside the public eye?? How do you determine if your work/worth is “real” or based on some kind of photoshopped image that you created for yourself based on social media or?? (fill in the blank) whatever drives you to believe that is the goal?? Okay I am getting off track here. So basically I’m in alignment with what he spoke about here and I suppose in my own way, feeling validated by that! I often feel fairly alone with my feelings about this and where it’s leading us. Are we all just following like the Pied Piper, not realizing we are headed for a cliff? What happened to valuing people as unique beings! Complex! You bet! Accepting that we all have shades of light and dark within us? Why do we feel the need to apologize for this?? (Don’t apologize, Tim!! We need more people like you who are willing to be your authentic self and not have to “fit in” to some mold or idea of what you’re supposed to be!! Whew. Okay. For Kara: I don’t know your background but I’m surmising that you are a therapist by a comment and all the terms you know like learned helplessness, etc which I enjoy and appreciate because that’s my field and I’m fairly starved for that kind of interaction for a number of reasons, one being unable to work due to an autoimmune disorder that has me on Disability. You want to talk about not feeling like a whole person when you’re not working??? Oh how I didn’t understand this in the very real and visceral sense in all areas of my life which comes from the way I am perceived by those who have power over my life in some way. The amount of prejudice (pre-judging someone w/o really knowing them) is rampant in this experience I am having and it is disturbing to me, as I KNOW that others have it worse and have less of a capacity for coping with it than I do. That scares me as a human being living in the current chaos of our world and again, makes me wonder where we are going with this. So THANK YOU for including that aspect into the discussion. And for putting Tim at ease enough that he will sit for the interview!! Good skill set you have! I’m also thinking he’s an introvert & wondering if you can do the Meyers-Briggs on this and then next time, talk about that? ❤ The psychologist in me would love that. But not at the expense of his privacy if that’s an issue!! Okay I am done now. It’s still a long post but I had to share!! Feeling heard and understood!!

PS. I’m appreciating Kristin Neff and her ideas on self esteem vs self compassion and I think she’s nailed it!! She totally takes all the comparisons and competition out of the picture and she provides a framework for freedom to be who we are, fully and completely and still find a way to function in our society. 😊

The first film I saw with Tim was about a bottle of wine, and Stephen King's Storm. I have been saying the Storm is coming where will you Stand? Hollywood does that they work on your mind, and if you are not spiritually strong they make you hate yourself. I've seen, so many actors destroy or sabotage their career because of what Hollywood has said to them or a small handful of casting directors said. I am a filmmaker/producer/actress/writer/author, and I am just starting because I never got my big break. Tim is right some projects take years to get off of the ground and other's a matter of months. I have never been good at auditions, but excellent with scene study and my principle roles I acquired is because I knew the director. I have gotten the same feedback I am too beautiful I don't look my age, so I get cast as the upscale wealthy woman even though I am a powerhouse full of emotions. I have to put my emotions on ice to conduct my business otherwise it is a roller coaster ride. I like what Tea did she got her own show. I think more actors need to follow in those footsteps. when I used to walk into a casting office I would have my diamonds on and be dressed up, and the feedback was YOU LOVE YOURSELF as the casting directors admire my jewels and attire. As an actor I know when a role fits and when it doesn't fit, but I am trying to make it fit. There was one role that I regret not getting in a Paul Newman film. The producers recommended me, but I wasn't an experienced actress at the time, and I didn't know how to play a junkie, which I didn't really wish to play that image. I didn't have a chance to prepare for it. Rejection is protection throw spaghetti at the wall and see what sticks. You don't need permission, and don't wait for your agent to submit you. Don't let Hollywood take your initiative away; put your agents name on your submissions. One man will say no go around the corner and another man will say yes. There are so many producers working undercover now. You don't know what projects they are doing or have already developed. Not everyone post their projects before or in pre- production. My work can stand on it's own, who are they to reject me? It is a blessing to me that is one less responsibility I have to carry or worry about. I am going to keep knocking on doors until somebody will open one and say yes. Nothing ventured nothing gained. Those men who are coming into this business to have sex. I wouldn't have sex with them unless I liked them not to further my career. I would not give anyone the power to make or break my career. I am the CEO of my energy, and I am independent in thought and action. I am professional and desire the best of everything and I doubt if those men will meet up to my standards. That is why I work around the clock, and I am very happy. Your work speaks for itself all you have to do is make the effort to get it to people who love you. Like Kojak said, Who Loves You Baby? Good Luck!

I was going to say that the interviewer was a little supercilious at times but that's not really the best descriptive. She wants to encourage a revelatory dialog but, when it begins to happen, just can't seem to always realize that and stay out of the way. Learn to identify subtext and very often a simple "yes" or "what do you think about that?" is all that is needed to give the guest permission to display his inner self...his humanity. With that said, she usually does stay out of the way and allows someone like Mr. Daly, who is clearly much less personally guarded than most prominent people, to show us himself. We never learned why and maybe he might have let us know.

This chica with a hat could be the Hedda Hopper of soap TV or an international spokesperson for corn on the cob. Tim Daly is a skilled actor and he could well be making shit up on the fly as practice for a performance piece.
