the college system in the US is kind of confusing because college is held up as such a prestigious thing that only the bugest and brightest can get into, and is for the best of the best, but then everyone is expected to go to college. you can't have college be this super prestigious achievement but also expect everyone to achieve it, because those two things contradict eachother 💀

i agree. i think that college is something most people should do, and want to do as it helps you in the work force but then there is all the hierarchy between colleges and tell expectations to go to college because if you don't, you're a failure. and im saying this as a person who fully want to go to college, and my dream college is NYU (which I have no chance at getting into)

If you really want to go to college, go to community college first then transfer into a state or different college. You’ll save a shit ton of money in the long run. Community college is waaaaaay cheaper but it’s pretty expensive still if I’m being honest.

Totally unsolicited but State schools or community colleges are a good way to pay less, get your education + make connections and get out of there! If you really want to go to a big school you can always transfer later or if you change your mind and decide to go to grad school, more scholarships or stipends are available to grad students, one huge thing that many people overlook is that a lot of top schools offer free lectures or online videos and work the only thing you wouldn't get is the diploma, if you have no interest in college, trade school is also a great path! Oh! If you're still in hs you can also get college credits through dual enrollment and shorten the time you would go to college because you've completed the credits early, everyone is always going to have something to say but Ik a decent number of people who are happier just working or going to a 90% acceptance rate school then those that go to prestigious ones (and ik lots of students at prestigious schools), at the end of the day most of these people end up in similar jobs if they put in the effort

I didn’t wanna go either because of debt and how expensive it is so I made a deal with my parents. I would go if they would pay for it. They accepted the deal on the grounds that I attend a community college. While I understand I am very fortunate for them paying for my schooling, I wouldn’t have gone to college had it not been for them and our agreement.

This is why I deleted TikTok about 2 years ago. There is horrible videos going around on that app, rather it’s trying to killing animals, weird sexual content, or just an over load of depressing videos. It’s not good for people’s mental health and it was designed to be addictive. I’m glad I’ve gotten rid of it.

Just fyi, out gpa goes to 4.0 too but he probably took classes that are extra hard and weighted. If you get 100% in weighted classes you can get more than a 4.0

Slightly late, but drama: My father had recently passed as of May, and I told my friends the next day (M&F) and they both took it upon themselves to make it how they thought would "help me with coping". M tried to go for 'Humor' I guess? But ended up making fun of the amount of money my father had, along with multiple jokes about him passing. F would latch onto that and then form lies about trauma of her parents divorcing (never happened) and her father getting in the hospital (also, never happened) So I have recently confronted them about what they did and they believe that I am somehow in the wrong, What should I do?

I’m not ben, but I empathize with your situation. ur mom might come around but I don’t know her, parents and adults in general can have a lot of preconceived notions about mental illness and will say your making “excuses”, “it’s not real”, “you aren’t troubled”, “everyone is a little adhd sometimes!”, but that line of thinking is flawed. Idk where you live but in America if you are diagnosed then you can have what’s called a 504 plan with accommodations to help you in school. Things like extended time on tests and stuff. And by law they have to acknowledge it and abide by its rules or the teacher can get fired. Maybe if you have a nice supportive teacher or counselor at school you can talk to them about ur possible adhd? In school if you’re having trouble paying attention, I’ve heard that fidgeting with a quiet fidget toy discreetly might help. I’m not an expert though so I recommend watching KZread channels like How to ADHD, Jessica is really nice and she knows what she’s talking about. But in general my rule of thumb when getting advice for certain things is to look at a large “sample sizs” of advice to see the general consensus and then go from there, but that’s just a me thing because it helps me feel like I’m not just going with one biased source ESPECIALLY online where misinformation is everywhere 💀💀 and if ur struggling to get homework done on time, so am I lol ur not alone, but maybe linking it to something your interested in can help. Like a show or movie or game. There’s this podcast on Spotify called “Happily neurodivergent” that has an episode about it. It’s called “intergrating special interests” which was made with autistic individuals in mind I believe but it could still help. Another channel I like for self help is Elizabeth Filips. Her advice is less rigid and feels a lot more doable compared to others on yt with a heavy #riseandgrind mindset. I think that covers it? But yeah, all the best dude I’m rooting for u. Again I’m no Ben but if u have more questions ask away. I try and help people where I can! (sorry for the super long comment oops)

In the us (i think it's the same in the whole country) our gpa goes up to 4, however if you take honors, ap, or you're in ib (ik most schools don't have this program it's International Baccalaureate) you can get pass 4.0 and go up to 5, since this is a thing my school have like 30+ every year graduating with a 5.0 which is the absolute max you can get

a lot of schools in the US are on a 4 point scale. if you do AP classes (college level classes) and do well then they can bring your GPA above a 4 even though a 4.0 is the "highest" - basically a 4.6 means he did a bunch of college classes and did well in them while in high school

Just so that everyone knows you can take some honors classes which then give you a weighted gpa. So like a A=A+ B=A C=B D=C But F= F

To explain the GPA thing, you can take classes that raise your GPA higher than 4.0 weighted. AP and college prep classes are a good example. But unweighted, your GPA cannot go past 4.0 I had a 3.7 unweighted and chose to go to community college to avoid the pressure of selection by prestige and dropped out anyways 😂 dodged a bullet there.

the lecture is absolutely wild

A lot of it is because university is a luxury a lot of Americans will never be able to afford. The really good schools will do scholarships that are strictly income based, which often times means that getting into one of those schools is a kids best shot at getting an education, often times too when these kids who otherwise would not have the money to go to college are going through grade school, they and their families spend over a decade making massive sacrifices in hopes of it working out, the odds of which are low if you’re lower income

Ben I’ve got drama, so I have a best friend of like 8 years, now our sisters are also best friends, but recently they had an argument, they made up eventually but they don’t talk anymore. So, as you would guess it’s a bit awkward, especially since they show up to my badminton club every week. hey ben, here's my drama: I participated in this seasonal activity with my two friends every year let's call them Apple and Orange. But this year it was different, there was a new person who started to join this activity, let's say Grape. Seeing Grape I instantly became friends with them and really liked Grape! Grape expressed to me how they thought Orange was cute, and at that time I thought they would be perfect a super cute couple! I shipped them so much to the point when another one of my friends tried setting Grape up with someone else and I refused to let it even start to happen. Only problem was Orange was in relationship at the time. One day me and orange were laughing at some video that resulted in them texting me from then we texted a lot more and became closer friends. It also happens that at the time of us being closer friend Orange's Partner started spreading rumors about me being the reason they broke up. This caused me to be more wary around Orange for their own good being, but still was close. I kept setting Orange and Grape up after the break up and things seemed to be going well between them. I had soon found someone for myself and me and grape helped each other out! However, in this relationship I soon became unhappy and awkward comparing or thinking about Orange when with that person. I at first interpreted it as missing their friendship, but soon realized it was much more. I knew it wasn't fare to the person I was talking to and broke things off. Orange was distant with me at the time however because I was talking to someone else. So I became less distant and made it clear I wasn't talking to that person anymore but not that I was interested, because I didn't want to harm our friendship on accident. But I did all this while still knowing Grape was interested, harming that friendship and fell really and about the whole thing. I keep close with Orange still but they are also becoming slightly distant recently and I think they may be catching onto me liking them. I feel bad because they might stuck between Grape and me or I, in a choice of jeopardizing friendships; Or was too late and Grape and Orange are already "together". Im really trying to find a new answer because I am just as miserable stuck in this situation as when I was when I didn't know I liked Orange and was still with the person I'm talking to. I also don't know how to truly show my feelings for orange without jeopardizing our close friendship. Or how to abandon my feelings in order to move on (but I don't know how that possible because I really like Orange, that's what I feel bad about the most).
