Really enjoyed the video. I have a Tikka t3x ctr in .223 Rem whcih I've had for about 2yrs and love it. It so accurate and needs little maintainence. I have a vortex PST Gen2 scope on it which ok but I'll now look into the Leupold scopes so thanks again. All the best from England.

I have a Lefty T3x lite in 7mm Rem Mag… my gunsmith threaded the barrel 1/2-28 I believe, due to barrel diameter - being so thin… but also made the 2 chamber brake to Match.. $200.. plus or minus for Eveything. I really calmes the little fella down, almost enough to spot your impacts at 800 plus.. It’s a consistent sub Moa performer with lots of groups running sub 3/4 and 1/2” on occasion.. it’s a shooter for sure.. A buddy has the exact same setup in RH configuration and it duplicates the precision I get from mine. $15 trigger spring and a more vertical grip replacement from Tikka and it’s a beast! 162 ELD-X with 69.5 grains of Reloder-26 - avg 3075 fps from the 24” barrel.. Easily got into the 3150 range but the recoil velocity was getting brutal.. backed off to 69.5 gr with sub 3/4” Moa being normal. As far as factory loads - The WincHester Deer season XP 140 grain is amazing! Sub 3/4” Moa… That said.. that particular ammo shoots sub Moa in literally every gun and caliber I’ve tried it in! Whatever witchcraft WincHester discovered, I hope they never change it! Ex. 308, 7RM, 6.5 CM, 270win, and 300 blk.. the little 300 blk XP round is a deer killing machine! Opens like a boss and goes nuts at 80 yards, my personal experience. Broke both shoulders of a good 7 pt and rolled him up!

The best hunting rifle in their price range! I have been hunting reloading and collecting for a short 60+ years and have owned hundreds of rifles and I hunt with Sako’s and Tikka’s only! I have custom builds and currently have 7 in the shop being built or improved on in one form or another as well as high end factor rifles but for hunting nothing shoots a bigger range of factor or custom ammo then these 2 factory rifles!

I have 2 tikkas, one roughtech ember in 300 WM and the other is a t3x lite stainless 308. Here in Canada, one retailer sells them with a muzzlebrake, they say it is factory made for them specifically, which I can't say if it's true but what I like is that it is 20" stainless and I wanted a short 308 for brush...Both shoot MOA with factory ammo and are better than the shooter. The action, accuracy, light weight, they are just amazing!! Thanks for the video and keep up the great content.

I have two of these, a stainless lite in 7mm-08 and a lite in 300 Win Mag. Love them. The 7 routinely shoots lights out with most ammo I’ve used, finally measured 1 group the other day and it was down to 0.388 MOA (Thanks Ballistic-X). The 300 is a solid rifle and when I do my part, I’ve gotten groups as tight as 1/2 moa, though it tends to be more routinely a 0.75 MOA gun. Even though it runs the 1-11 twist (bought it before they changed to 1-10 for the 300 WM), I have run up to 200 gr bullets (Hornady Precision Hunter, 200 gr ELD-X) through it and have not seen any obvious stability issues. I’d take these over any Remington I’ve owned any day. Their lighter, smoother in action and trigger, more reliable (had a 700 LR in 300 WM that wouldn’t feed consistently for anything), and more accurate.

Yeah 1 in 11 seems fine for 200gr to me 2 I have a 300wsm tikka n it shoots the 200gr eldx lights out .5 to .75 and the Terminal Ascent good enough 1 to 1.5 groups

Nice, clear presentation. I like the rifle and scope but I am not a fan of the 30-06 caliber. Regarding your desire to thread the barrel, I spoke with a gunsmith in Colorado about this same issue with my Hawkeye 243. As with your rifle, there isn't enough material to thread it 5/8-24. He suggested threading it 7/16 x32, and purchasing an adapter that will go from 7/16x32 to 5/8x24. Thanks for taking the time and effort to produce a good video!

Unreal accuracy

Hey, I live in Sequim, WA and have the DIY hunting rifle build bug. I've built 2. A 300RUM off a TI Summit action. This was my idea for black bears in cuts. Its light, shoots factory ammo darn good, but kicks without a brake. I may put on a brake, but just don't like the thunder! The other build was a 375 Ruger on a stainless T3X. Again no brake, 6.5lbs and one must control this beast. It shoots very good. Both rifles have carbon barrels and stocks. I'm now working on my next build. Again off a tikka action. My idea is a do most hunting rifle, with the idea of shooting close out to 400 or so. I want it to be lightweight, short and accurate. One gun for mountain hunts, bear, elk in black timber. I have the stock and will order a carbon pre-fit threaded barrel. OK, so here is where it gets a bit crazy. I'm thinking a 20 inch barrel! Originally I was leaning towards a 7PRC. But have some reservations now. I like 7mm, but honestly in my hunting experience, 30 caliber and up seem to kill bigger critters better? In the past my 338 Win dumps elk. Plus I'm starting to question the ELDX bullet? I guess my questions for you is, I've been thinking of building it in 300 Win. My thinking is perhaps using the Hornady Superformance 165 grain CX load for everything. That's if it shoots good, which I expect it would. Based on calculations it would still hold approx 2100 FPS out of the shorter barrel at 400. So the bullet should still expand out there. Im thinking the 7PRC might shoot more accurately using factory ELD-X or CX loads. On the other hand, I have several boxes of Federal 200 TA in 300 Win, which should prove devastating on bear and elk? So I'm leaning towards the 300 Win for my new go to hunting rifle. My plan is to mount a Leupold VX 5 HD... the same as yours, or a Trijicon Accupoint, both in my safe waiting patiently. So, what are your thoughts about my project? Also, for the past 2 years my buddy and I have been scouting for black bear on the Olympic Peninsula, and have actually spotted bear 3 times. But as for making bear hunting here a specific hunt, we're beginners. Years ago I went on one of the last legal hound hunts. I got a small bear and it was the most exciting hunt I've ever been on. I think it was somwhere just South of the Promised Land, but just do not remember. We have scouted for bear everywhere from near Clallam Bay, Forks, The Clearwater Noth and South. We have yet to scout The Matheny or Quinault. I've still not settled on an area to focus on. Since you hunt bear here, and without sharing your exact spots, where might you suggest we focus scouting this early summer. Would walking/biking behind gated roads be good advice? The few bears we've spotted were random, and pretty much on open roads. Really appreciate any tips. Thanks!

Have a T3X Hunter in 7mm-08. While I wasn't excited about the caliber initially ( bought used ). I have been nothing but happy with it, other than I would have preferred proper metal bottom metal. Also mine is walnut around blued steel with a Nikon 3-12 optic.

The LimbSaver Air Tech recoil pad does wonders with felt recoil. A must for Tikka Lite models.

I have a T3x in 30-06 w/ a Burris Fullfield 2.5-10x42. Fairly accurate and I have 130gr, 150gr and 168gr ttsx from Barnes waiting for load development. Thinking to settle on the 150gr. It’s a shoulder thumper but a limbsaver recoil pad tamed it quite a bit. Good rifles.

You are going to like using the 130gr ttsx... when used on deer it's like hitting them with a bolt of lighting.... the 130gr in the 3006 will fly just as fast as any 130gr in the .270win...

Thank you for the video. I too have a Tikka T3X in 30-06 but disappointed that Tikka uses a 1 in 11 twist while most other manufacturers uses 1 in 10 for their modern 30-06 rifles. I prefer copper projectiles and used Hornady’s 165 grain CX Superformance to take a nice mule deer. Hornady recommends a 1 in 10 twist for that round and I am going to switch to their recently introduced 150 grain CX Superformance to try and improve accuracy and to increase the impact velocity of the round on target. I appreciated your 30-06 165 grain CX Superformance video. I would definitely be interested in a video of the new 150 grain CX Superformance 30-06 from your Tikka T3X comparing the accuracy of the two rounds and if there is notable performance difference from the higher impact velocity of the lighter round at longer ranges. Keep up the good work.

168gr Barnes TTSX works excellently in my Sako M591 308win with 11”. May i point out that Sako also loads their 170gr(11g) all copper bullet Blade in 30-06 and 162gr in 308. The CX or GMX in 165r shouldn’t be a problem.

What a detailed video! It shows how much you love your Tikka. Im looking at the T3x in 7mm08 / .308 & stainless. 7mm08 ammo is a little bit in short supply. Plenty of .308 available. Question: did you do an after market 20 MOA picatanny rail to mount your Leupold? I like the idea of the additional space for scope mounting. Your choice of the 3-15x44 duplex Firedot is right on.

Regarding twist rate, my gunbuilder had a 300WSM with a 1-13 twist barrel shooting 190 grain bullets. Stabilized just fine

Thanks for the video. I really love my tikka t3x stainless in 7mm-08 and looking to buy another tikka rifle hopefully soon or build one from a tikka action. They are really good rifles in there price range. Also if you want to try some really good hunting bullet that are easy to load for look at hammer bullets by far they are the best bullets I’ve used for hunting. Keep up the good work God bless

3TX 6,5 CM Light. Handloads 130 gr Sierra and Speer 140 Hot Core. Both 1/4-5/16” @ 100-yds if I do my job. Both loads over 2800 fps. I have a T3 in 308 cal. And 165 gr Sierra or Speer will give 3/8” @ 100-yds. Handloads for deer @ 2520 fps. Out of the 22” length barrel. This load has done shoulder shots through and through on many occasions of at least 10 deer. All in dense wooded areas.

To the punching through with the 308. I used the Hornady 150gr Inter-bond on my buffalo hunt. Both shots inside 100, both passed completely through. 😉👍

Just bought the t3x lite chambered in 270 Winchester, went with a sig sauer 3×9 scope, we'll see how it does in the spring when I zero the scope in.

I am buying a Tikka T3X lite rough tech 30-06 20 inch barrel my concerns are the 1-11 twist I always use Hornady superformance sst 180 grain in my T/c Encore with a 20 inch MGM custom barrel in 1-10 twist in your opinion do you think i would be better off with a light grain bullet with the 1-11 twist thanks Mattbob NH hunter.

Sako Hammerhead (RN) 220gr is no problem with the 11” rifling twist. Actually Sako makes all 30 cal (308,30-06,300WinMag) with the same 11” twist

They now have threaded barrels but they are a thicker profile. That being said you may could do it but have to cut some of the barrel off.

Biggest reasons are rigidity and alignment. A pic rail is (in my opinion) a little bit sturdier and less likely to allow the rings to cant or shift under recoil or abuse. Also when I'm setting up the gun a single rail allows the rings to sit concentric, so if I'm lapping the rings I don't have to take as much material off. I get that with direct receiver mounted rings I could shave some weight and get the scope a little lower to the bore, but neither of those things are a big concern for me. There's different ways to mount optics and most of them all work great, I've just landed on this being right for me.

Just for reference that user opinions may vary I've owned the same rifle in alternate caliber. In just over one year, it failed to eject spent cartridges and was not run till dirty and bolt has been disassembled and cleaned as well. I also know someone who had the blued version and that blue rusts FAST. As example pouring rain, wiped down as best as could and stored in truck drove home and the barrel had considerable rust within two hours. Lastly I have a friend who has the new camo version in 6.5 CM and it has had ejection issues where the cartridge is getting stuck in the rifle regardless of the brand of ammo cleaning and gunsmithing. Overall the Tika is a decent rifle, but in my experience for the cost there are better. Varying types of Tika at my local sporting goods store are $750-1500. 1500 for a Tika? For me that is a hard no. For those prices you can buy Kimber Hunter and on up with a three-position safety, as good a barrel, better trigger, and controlled round feed. There is also Winchester, Bergara, and Howa to put into contention. For me the Tika has very good barrel, very poor stock, meh trigger, poor magazine, which are expensive to replace, and decent action/bolt run. Currently I run a Howa full carbon barreled action I put into a carbon stock (all that for 1150) and a Nosler Mt Carbon. So I am assuredly batting heavier than the Tika cost except for my piece together Howa vs moderate to high-end Tika. This probably sounds like I am bashing Tika and maybe I am a little bc they get such positive press. If one picks up a Tika and loves it (as I did when I first did) then buy it but don't neglect holding many other rifles as well. I had a buddy key on a Tika until he held and worked the action on a Bergara that cost the same and he bought the Bergara. Really love the vids keep it up. Sorry to be such a sour puss - just providing a contrasting POV. I do love the scope though and have very good experience with Leupold VX3 and VX5s. :)

I have 4 tikkas and have never had a single issue with any of them. The shoot lights out and the triggers break under 3 pounds right outta the box. Bergara doesn't have anything on tikka and they don't make left hand options other than the ugly b14 or whatever it is. Another thing for all the cry babies about the threaded muzzle. Tikka offers threaded options and if you can afford suppressors you can afford a 1200 dollar rifle.

I had a similar rust issue with my blued one. Went hunting with it while it was raining, put it in case and by the time I got back home there was notable (though not significant) surface rust. A quick wipe down with some CLP and it was gone. Got caught in a pretty heavy squall about 3 weeks ago, same rifle doing target practice, let it air dry and not an issue. The other problem this brought up that I haven’t seen mentioned yet is that these rifles tend to be incredibly sensitive (in my experience) to receiver screw torque. After taking my blued one apart to check for rust between stock and underside of barrel, it went from a comfortable 0.75 moa gun to a 2 moa gun at best. Played around with the torque on the screws and got it reined back in.

Even though I have had better luck with the Tikka’s then the Vanguards and Bergara’s I like that you tell it how you see it in your experience with these rifles! I collect bolt action rifles and have bought and owned hundreds over the last 60+ years and many high end factory and custom rifles but with all my hunting and my 4 boys hunting as well as my in-laws who all hunt the Sako is the best for the price you pay in their price range and the Tikka’s in their price range. My oldest son is a member at one of the biggest gun ranges in the US and we have tested many many rifles over the years!

Threaded barrel would help their sales 👍. Nice shooting.

They seem to be doing just fine as it is. I think it's a nice option but it's a hunting rifle, not a benchrest gun. Wouldn't ever hunt with a brake on.

I would think that rifle in 06 and being so lite, has a stout kick. My wife has the t3 in 308. I think that's a good match up....

Ever try the hammer bullet 136 gr hammer hunters? I found in my 270 hammer bullets are little easier to get accuracy.

I probably will never buy a new rifle thats not a Tikka again you just cant beat them out the box for the price and besides the rem700 probably the most customizable rifle out there.....but ill still buy used rifles i love some old model 70s n rem 700s n abolts

I haven't looked into it so same here, no personal experience, but I feel like if I had one on the gun I'd be constantly questioning whether it was tight or not. Could get distracting. Would probably work just fine though

@@frontlinerejects8029 Some good vids here on KZread about the Witt Machine clamp on, you send them dimensions and they machine it to fit your barrel. Probably costs as much as getting barrel threaded, who knows on lead time tho.

Needs 3 position safety. Then best under 800 rifle made

That is most any plastic stock though. One just has to be mindful of where they place their hands on a Tupperware stock. Then repeatable accuracy isn't a problem.

I want to like the tikka. But its just so damn ugly.
