This is certainly one of, if not THE most impressive feat of Tiger Woods's career. To pull this off, he had to win 36 consecutive matches against the world's best amateur golfers. He couldn't have any off days, any rounds where he got a few bad breaks or things just didn't go his way. It's almost unfathomable that any human could ever pull off something like this, let alone someone as young as he was at the time. The unquestionable GOAT.

I was an assistant golf professional during Tiger's six-peat and a couple of members at our club made it to match play in the US Am during that time. Neither of them happened to draw Tiger as an opponent but they had plenty to say about how amazing he was. We also had a very impressive junior golfer at the club during that time...Brendon Todd.

This is such an underreported and under appreciated feat of Tiger’s. Dude had to win 36(!) straight matches, not to mention finish in the top 64 in stroke play at the beginning of each of those tournaments, to accomplish what he did. All against the best of the best amongst his peers. This will never be duplicated.

Jack is one of the best of all time no doubt there. He may have more majors than Tiger (right now) some people will always say he is the best of all time. But in my opinion that's just ignorant lol. The competition during Jacks prime was no where near as tough as it was during Tigers prime and still is during his career. Jack was ahead of the competition during golfs earlier time period which obviously made him better. Tiger had advantages (yes clubs were and are better now) but was even more ahead of the competition. I've had the privilege of watching both play at numerous tournaments and I still don't hesitate when I say Tiger is the greatest golfer of all time.

  • @dbo4506

Agreed! Tiger also transcended his sport more then just about anyone ever has. Maybe MJ is in that conversation but I still don’t think he transcended it to the level tiger did. Tiger also did that from golf which is a sport no one cares about in the slightest unless they play. He dominated his fields way more then jack ever did. His win percentages in the first decade and a half of his career is the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever seen.

Along with many MANY others I have read the debates on Golf's GOAT and I get why the major wins are considered the top reason that Jack is the man...but, I think Jack knows that Tiger is the best at the game of golf that has ever lived. The reason I say this is...Jack failed to break Sam Sneads record for most wins. Tiger had a list he put on his wall of Jack's accomplishments that he wanted to beat...what would have been on Jack's list? Think about it...

Well, Tiger now has 15 Majors and 82 PGA wins. And his wins has come in less tournaments than Sam Snead for his wins. And when your Dad is a decorated Vietnam Vet and a Green Beret, of course the son will be mentally strong, Dad will teach that. I am so glad that I have been able to watch all of Tigers major wins. I really doubt if we will ever see another player like Tiger.

Shane Jackson he also did this against a new and better breed of competition. There were more people playing golf, from more parts of the world and they were in a lot better shape. Jack was great for his day but the field he played against wasn’t as deep.

TW is special; it has been a privilege to be golf aware in the Era of Tiger Woods.

I played a junior tournament at Waverly Country Club in 1970. I was paired a guy who was also 15. His name is Mitch Mooney. We met on the first tee. He was wearing white pants and really fancy golf shoes, nice golf shirt. I was a little intimidated, until I saw his first drive! Then I was really intimidate! Right down the middle with slight draw., just like every drive he hit in the tournament! He won the tournament shooting 68-68! Absolutely the most flawless golf I had ever witnessed! We would meet in high state championships in 72, 73, and 74! He won low gross all 3 years by landslide, but my team won state honors in all 3 of those years. I would never see him again.....and to this day I wondered why he didn't turn pro one day! I would have offered to be on the bag!......on one hole at waverly, #1, second day I hit drive a foot from OB stake. I shanked 4 ,8 irons OB! I ran out of balls. Mitch took out 3 balls and hit them from the green back to me and each one rolled right to my feet!...So embarrassed, I hit 2 of them OB, took a 20 on the card and withdrew.......
