The Tiger looks so modern even by today’s standards. It is absolutely a work of art. Unthinkable how Germany could come up with design like that in the middle of a war, and materialized it so we can see it today. My respect to the German innovations.

@@WestTNConfed The Tigers were hugely over engineered. Vastly expensive to both manufacture; and maintain under battlefield conditions. But as a front line tank, given enough of them and properly supported. There was nothing equal to them until the 1960's. If the King Tigers had been produced in numbers (and with enough fuel) they would have been a real problem for the allies. Thankfully the Germans had neither

@@xanadudawn I agree but that is the problem. In the right conditions, they are the king tanks of WWII, no question. But when engineering something that can be easily produced, and most importantly, *reliable* and easy to operate, those are qualities that also determine success. Whether it was intentional or not, tanks like the M4 Sherman and T-34 (later models) were superior. Not to mention, tanks such as Tiger used much more fuel which was a necessity in wartime Germany. I have to give the edge to the Shermans.

In reality, the engine was shit. The transmission even worse. Why? Because they had to be specially handled else they broke. Unlike say the engine and transmission in the Sherman or T-34. It had to be constantly monitored for overheating.

A súlya miatt speciállis vagon kellett, le kellett szerelni a külső futó görgőket, plusz vagoirozó láncra állitani. A személyzet minőség kiképzése hosszú időt vett igénybe.....

Well, if they build more tigers, there will be much fewer other tanks the Allies had to fight against. These heavy tanks (tigers and other models) all cost too much time, labour and resource to build. And they knock themselves out of action regularly (by getting stuck in the ground for example).

Yeah he was 100% disabled coming out of WW2. Nobody see the suffering but the family members and the VA. But thanks for your kind words. Oh my dad lived to be 92

and in my opinion one of the worst, A engineering nightmare, A Unreliable nightmare when in non experienced crews (same goes for the panther) As much as its said so, the 88 Really wasnt needed, the L70/KWK41/40 Was more than enough to take out a Sherman or T34 at 500 yards. and may I also add, if a tank is penetrated by a APCBC round 8.8cm or 7.5cm, both would knock any tank out on the field. Production costs where too high too. all to feature no sloped armour, which was already known knowledge. Panther should of been the Germans main focus armour wise in my opinion, though itself suffered reliability issues, I believe if it was focused, they could be no longer a problem reliability wise. (why I say the panther is because of the Panzer 4s armour only, as the germans where outnumbered, and a being able to receive rounds in my opinion is more of a prevalent issue as the counterparts at the time could penetrate a Panzer 4 frontally with ease. Causing more unneeded losses of experienced tank crews)

I always think its unwise to use "on the spot" turning in these old vehicles - it seems like a lot of stress on the tracks and transmission. It's a shame they can't find a turntable to rotate it in confined spaces like this.

Try doing that to any vehicle and you will eventually have a break. Only drive straight, and eventually you will lose the ability to turn. Ever heard about the car driven daily compared to one not driven? Buy the one driven daily and how it was made to be driven.

Actually if go to one of the old railway preservation societies, I'm sure they could find a suitable locomotive turntable to do the job. So there is less stress on the old Tiger 131.

I believe it was abandoned by German forces because the turret had been disabled. They had tried to destroy the tank, but the demolition charges failed, and the British were able to seize the vehicle.

131 was hit in Tunisia buy a shell that ricocheted off the gun barrel down into the turret mechanism, disabling the turret and wounding those inside. The crew bailed out leaving the damaged but still drivable tank for the British to capture.
