I get the impression you’re not enamoured with the BMW as much but remember it was a long time ago in development. I would think the next model release will have all these issues updated & improved because of the competition. A greater slice of the market pie is a companies priority & brand retaining. I will never forget overhearing some guys complain about Ducati’s not having enough high RPM power like a multi cylinder bike. This was on a Ducati demo day and I still remember how sweet the Ducati was with a great motor. This was the 848 back in 2007 or so. Keep up the good work and I hope BMW can fix the back brake and seat plus LCD for you.👊

Excellent once more, and a great resource for those in the market. Like yourself it seems, I do have a liking for torque over hp (which is what weds me to my GS), but having ridden both the XR and Tiger 900 I'd have to agree with all of the points you have made. For me, whilst the XR is a solid machine, I just felt less cramped and more comfortable on the Tiger - it was the one that I wanted to go back to. For what it's worth, I also prefer the looks. I can see your interest has been raised with this bike, so I look forward you to testing the KTM and Ducati options before you commit:-)

Interesting review. For me I like the low end torque. I love the feeling of the power pulses coming on down low, right off of the idle. The 17in front wheel on the xr vs the 19 on the triumph combined with the slightly lower fork stroke would result in the XR being a more nimble motorcycle and more planted bike on a twisty paved road at a spirited pace. If it were me I'd sort out the rear brake on the XR and keep it. Having said that, follow your heart Scott, that Triumph is a nice motorcycle, life is short.

Thanks for reviewing and comparing the Tiger 900! The whine of the engine is annoying but the smooth intuitive handling makes up for it. One thing you may not have noticed on the GT is the vibration in the bars and foot pegs. After a few hour, it can lead to tingling fingers and leg fatigue. Another factor that may be important to some is a low options. The Tiger has a GT Low, which I own. The BMW also has a low version but I don't think the Tracer does. Scott, you always have great videos, full of very useful information and evaluations. Thanks!!

Very fair review, as always. I still like my XR and can live with its imperfections. However, that being said, BMW needs to refine the bike. For the price, any bike that is 10K plus should be( in my humble opinion) damn near perfect. I've been riding and occasionally racing motorcycles for over 40 years now and coming from a no frills beginning I can tell you that today's motorcycles and tires are light years ahead of anything dreamed of back in 1978! My biggest problem with the Tiger and the Tracer is the modern-bug-like look. I simply can't get used to much of the new styling that accompanies many of the newer models. I can't help it...I'm retro! Cheers Scott!

Hi Scott. Great review yet again. I have a Rally Pro in green which I use 98% on road. Very plush with the longer-travel suspension, and the bigger front wheel gives me no issues when cornering. Goes and handles really well, and the build quality is solid. Only downside for me has been severe butt-ache after an hour or so in the saddle, but I’ve cured this with a ComfortAir seat pad (BLISS 😎), making it an all-day pleasure. Minor point…..I can’t recall having so many compliments on any of my previous bikes from random people on how it looks. Must be the Khaki paint / white frame / black cases combo. Cheers 👍

Hi Scott, I procrastinated for months between the GT & the Rally ended up with the Rally as it’s more universal & pleased with my decision. The power didn’t worry me as the mid range is so good & 120-160kph is about the maximum I would do but touring around the 100kph I got 400k’s to a tank. You do get used to the controls and buttons and after a while of riding they become second nature, & the handling in the twisties is fine I really didn’t find the 21” wheel overbearing enough to warrant having the GT. I love the screen the only real odd thing I discovered was that you can never show the odometer which seemed a bit odd to me at first but I really only ever use the tripmeters anyway which make it easier for distances & fill ups. However I did find when you first turn the ignition on the odometer does show for a couple of seconds only in the centre of the TFT screen at the top & again when you turn ignition off but that’s it for the odometer. (On my bike anyway) But couldn’t be more happier with the Triumph Rally & the $3000(aud) I saved by not buying the Pro I bought some quality protection and luggage.

Scott , i have to agree with you the TFT on the Triumph and the BMW are so much better than the Tracer , i do not go off road so this is one of the reasons i went for the Tracer but it does need some connectivity though , love the Triumph maybe your next bike .

Yea, giving is some serious thought. Will take time to think about it over the winter, if I'll trade the XR for this but also my wife will be looking for a bike next year too...so then probably won't be able to afford a trade cause we'll have to buy her bike out right 😒

Great review and timing. I am looking at trading in my 1290 Superduke on one of these three plus the Honda ATAS and am having some difficulty with the choice. Leaning toward the Tiger or AT at this point, just need to be honest with myself on how much off-road ability I need.

Another great review, I actually own the Tiger .. about 7K km on it, really love the bike for me only 2 negative issues : seat is not that great after a 8h drive :) and I do not like the rear break but the front is awesome. I also testdrove the Tracer and the XR, for me the Tracer my expectations were not met and the XR the QuickShifter is on the low RPM not that smooth, also for my feel I leaned a bit much to the front putting some weight on my wrists ... like you say all 3 bikes are very nice bikes, but for me the Tiger is the best value for money

2022 tiger 900 GT pro, rear brake is weak. Vibrations of engine riding hard and fast in twisties can get annoying, but at lower speeds, kinda interesting.

Nice comprehensive comparison. I like the Triump overall of the three. Not sure about the tires for off road, probably could arrange to swap out with dealer on new bike.

Thanks sire for the comparison. I have been looking to get an touring bike, coming from a Suzuki GSX S 750. I had a look at the Tiger 850 sport, Tracer 9 and V strom 1050. In the Netherlands all around the same price. Which one would you take? I use it for the weekends and for commuting. Great comparison and I like the way you try to compare them in different categories. Edit: one bike that I keep looking at is the Tenere 700. So that would not be a real competitor but I just like the way it looks

Thank you. Agreed, yes, but the industry has put that along with the Versys1000, Africa Twin...etc. in the heavyweight ADV group, even though it's more of a road bike and closer to these middleweights. ride safe, Scott

About to decide weather to upgrade from the Tiger 850 to a gt pro. Is there any usefulness to the the triumph Bluetooth connectivity system? Would it not be better to just hook your helmet straight to your phone?

I have the 900GT and after putting 4200 miles on it I live in sport mode. I find myself reaching for a non existent 7th gear over 80 mph. I find the engine has a low frequency vibration from 5500 rpm - 7000 rpm, then the engine really comes alive again around 6500rpm. Other than those things, it is the most comfortable motorcycle I have ever ridden. If I could do it over, I would buy it again.

Great review thanks. The 2023 Tracer is getting a single large TFT screen and you'll be able to connect your phone to it. Ooh and it's also getting radar adaptive capability for the cruise control. I don't think they're going to bring it to the US though. 🤨 I've been pretty happy with my '22 model so far. The only thing I really dislike is the on/off throttle situation but I think that's common these days.
