A DIY tool that no shop should do without is called a Third Hand or a Welders Finger.
All it takes is a few pieces of round stock in about 1/4" or 3/16" ( around 5 or 6mm) and a some type of block of metal for added weight. A hunk of 1 inch round stock, a piece of thick plate, whatever it takes. You cant screw one up. Just like a 3 legged stool, with 3 points, they always touch.

    Thanks for all of these awesome videos; they've helped tremendously in my work. I TIG weld for a Bosch owned company now :)

    For this video I was using a miller dynasty 200dx. The diversion 180 is an ok welder. The tig torch is hard wired so stick welding can only be done by modifying things. But for the money, it can handle a lot of tig welding jobs especially if you use a helium argon mix for aluminum.

    I thought I remembered doing it before but I guess I am growing into one of those old guys who tells the same story over and over. Now.....What were we talking about again?

    Hey Jody do you horizontally dab or poke or sweep the filler rod into the puddle. Just curious on what motion works for you. I like lay wire but occasionally " poke" the rod in the front edge. Thanks

    Any concern at all with TIG welding silicon bronze? I did quite a bit of MIG with silicon bronze wire about 15 years ago, and fumes were a bit of a concern.

    which miller tig welder were you using in this video ? And what do you think of the Diversion 180 ?

    Tig welding silicon bronze makes for way less fumes than mig. Still, it pays to have a fume extractor for stuff like this. My fume extractor is on loan to a nearby business friend who was welding some really nasty stuff... but I will have it back soon.

    Ugly 3rd hands need love too. I like your ugly 3rd hand. It looks handy. The one I built is ugly. One leg moved when I tacked it. Covered in rust. But it works! I plan on making some uglier ones.

    What is the difference between ER 70s2 and ER 70s6 and when would you use one rather than the other.

  • @lukefaceman

    @lukefaceman

    8 жыл бұрын

    ER70S2- compositon by %: C -0.07, Mn -0.90 t0 1.40, Si -0.40 to 0.70, Ti- 0.05 to 0.15, Zr o.o2 to o.12, Al 0.05 to 0.15 ER70S6- compositon by %: C-0.07 t0 0.15, Mn- 1.40 to 1.85, Si- o.8o to 1.15, 0% of Ti,Zr, and Al. So basically 70s-6 has more deoxidizers than 70s-2. meaning it is better on "dirtier" metal.

    practically speaking, er70s-6 works better for full penetrating welds, where as er70s-2 will work a bit better for a weld where backside deoxidation isn't as critical, in my experience.

    It does not really look like a bird, it looks more like Mick Jagger standing on stage with a mic stand. But then again, Mick looks like a vulture so yeah I guess you could say it looks like a bird. I had a third hand that did not work. It was made from a foot long section of railroad track. It was heavy. I was using it to hold a small piece of aluminum on to another which I was going to weld together. The Al got hot and the arm sunk in! I then dropped it on my foot. I cut the damn thing up.
