In this video: Jeff and Dana restore a cast iron stove damper that has clearly seen better days. From hairline cracks to full on broken parts they put it all back together again.

Hi Jeff. I'm a welder of 35 + yrs I always watch videos to stay up on welding . It's been a very rewarding field and the people in this field are so talented it makes me proud to still enjoy it . Your video was very informative . I like the no music background so you can hear your presentation and see you demonstrating your skills on the cast part . Thank you very well done ! Tim

Wanted to let everyone know.....Jeff does awesome work! The door came from a stove that was made in the late 1890's and I could not find a replacement door ANYWHERE (searched for three months around the world). I couldn't find a local person within two states to attempt to even repair this door, but after I saw Jeff's first video..... well you know the rest. Watching this, I almost do not feel this artwork should go back on the side of the stove, but it's cold in the mountains! I just wanted to say, if you have a job to be done and done right, this is the man to have do it. Thanks again Jeff and if I ever break another piece, I know where to get it fixed.

The bubble you see when you finish your weld is the impurities coming too the surface in gas form !!! How you stop that is when you finish your weld come off the pedal slowly and move away from the finished weld slowly into your cast and then stop!! I found that too be the best way!

Great repair Jeff ! I've been gathering some old cast iron cook stoves to restore and your work has given me lots of inspiration on repairing the cracked parts on them.

Why dont you use a small cooking stove (plate) for preheating, and keeping the heat?

You could do that and it would work very well, I know folks who have used a gas grill to preheat parts. What a lot of people can't see in my videos is that my shop is only 750 square feet and its filled to the rafters. I use the torch and wood burning stove simply because they are already here. Thanks for the view and the question :)
