In this video: If your about to begin TIG / GTAW welding this video is for you. Jeff shows you how to sharpen your tungsten for welding mild and stainless steel. You don't need to spend all kinds of money on special equipment, a basic bench grinder is all you need.

Thanks Jeff, I am starting back into a little TIG welding after 52 years, but decided to get a Cold Welder. I had training in metal, wood and basic electronics. Mostly metal work. I have forgotten a lot. I like to build things and have a project now that requires 0.2mm 316 SS. After requesting a demo video asking if this cold welder could weld 0.2mm SS the company showed me a video of a person welding 0.2mm SS, so I decided to purchased their welding machine. It is a Cold Welder called Adam. Unfortunately after purchasing the welder this company basically abandon me. There educational process is basically none existent. They do not show any charts for the various metals (Aluminum, brass, iron, mild steel, and or Stainless Steel). They gave me the basic settings and that was it. Looking back at the Demo video they sent to me, I realize they never showed the Cold Welder in the video, only the actual weld being performed. Strange. Any suggestions for the 0.2 mm SS welding would be good. I realize the machine I have is not your TIG welder, it is a Cold Welder. I am using Argon gas. Thanks very much, Rich

Love the video mate - totally makes sense - if you could blow a wheel using a tungsten wire it would explode every heavy job - tips VERY appreciated

I like. Can i add something in the spirit of this vid. If you're cheap like me, it is possible to remove the contamination from the surface of the tungsten tip. Grind, sand, or whatever, down to the tungsten on a separate abrasive, then go to your usual clean grinding surface to finish it up.

Good tip on cutting tungsten, I would love a tungsten sharpener, but for what I do and how often I do it, my little cheap Harbor Freight mini grinder with the diamond wheels they sell (about $10 for a 4 piece set) works fine for me. I also put the tungsten in my cordless drill to make it easier to spin. I may make a jig to rest the drill on so I always get the same grind angle. But for now, I just rest in on a horizontal screw I mounted on the grinder and it works fine. Been using the HF grinder and diamond wheel now for a couple of years. Still looks to have much life left in it. Thanks for the video.

We had a safety consultant come through and saw that someone had used the side of the wheel and made us throw the wheel away. It wasn't even dented. I like how efficient it is on the side and have never had a wheel explode but others must have other experiences...

Thanks for your time. I assume you have watched Braveheart over 10 times! Jokes aside, i used to grind on the side of the wheel, but decided to look at grinding marks with a microscope i have and you can clearly see the grind scors(marks) are swirling in the length of the point like a barbers poll. This is not as good as straight grind marks like you did at the beginning of video(traditional way). Just wanted to give my observation. Thanks

Thanks for the video 👍🏼 In an ideal world should I use one side of the wheel for aluminium, one for stainless and another for mild steel? And should I have tungsten in separate boxes for the 3 different materials?

Great video Jeff, I'm new to tig welding I've net even used it yet I just gathering information first. I been reading that sharpening tungsten electrodes is highly dangerous: as it contain thorium, a radioactive material that can pose health risks from the dust. Thorium is a low-level radioactive material that primarily emits alpha particles as well as some beta and gamma radiation.I'm using Ceriated/gray electrodes...can some help me out here?
