Anything under 18 gauge use .9 wire and for purging 1.6 tube but listen to food factory welders over anyone that welds anything else

I am no welder and I do not weld often at all. But the manor with the care you took to create this video, FANTASTIC. Thank you for all of the easy to listen to information, and normal human interperations. This sort of info helps when I hire fabricators to be sure that the work they do is appropriate before the work is completed and I notice a problem after the fact. Keep up the great work.

I'm a visual learner, with memory issues & despite there being a ton of information in this vid I was totally locked in. I have been welding over 30 years and these are the best videos I have ever seen, It is never to late to learn new tricks, You explain things in a simple way that beginners can understand. Keep up the good work.

As a 25 year welder and The "GO TO" guy at work to weld anything, you are spot on. I had to learn all that you said through experience 20 years ago. I use helium at times (only ever on poured aluminum castings) and the sole purpose is as you said being skilled and it is used for that and that alone. Helium mix burns out poured aluminum castings impurities a lot better than 100% argon. Keep up your teachings as it only betters people to learn the proper way.

Justin! I'm NOT a welder, not in "the business" at all...just a 49 year old hobbiest trying to learn a brand new skill that is exponentially a thousand times harder than I ever thought it could be!!! First I need to say MUCH respect to you for your incredible skill at not only actually welding, but for your incredible skill as a TEACHER!!!! I have learned more from your videos and simple, no bullsh*t method of "telling it like it is" (this video being case and point!!), than I ever thought I could, aside from enrolling in a welding school. I'm turning 50 in January 2020, and the only gift I've asked my wife and kids for, is for them to send me to Vegas for a few days to be taught, hands on in person by you.... here's hoping they listen to the request. Never welded before. Just bought the new Miller ac/dc. Fascinated with tig welding. Trying something new at 68. Love your video. Watched a lot of other channels you by far are the best in explaining the process.

Dean tig is easy esp if you have HF, the scratch start could be a bitch but learned in 30 minutes of practice. If you are comfortable you will make a better-looking weld, get a chair with wheels, you also need to rest your welding hand on some sort of guide, roller, sliding wood or steel to avoid the shaking weld or minimize it. Last thing a foot pedal is a must. You got this go for it have fun.

But NEVER use high freq if you have a pacemaker or other surgical electrical insert.

@@carmo9693 yes, but high frequency start is bad for implants. Some welders get away with it, then it's lights out. Like welding in the rain. Not a good idea

It seems obvious that you’ve done well working under the helmet and earning a decent living; it’s also obvious you’ve learned a ton along the way. I hope you are successful at replacing your income (and more) with a shift towards teaching as you have a real talent for it and have a lot to offer. I have zero experience on a TIG, hobby level only on arc and MIG welding. My welds might stay together, but I would never be so brazen as to challenge someone experienced with these machines. Niave I am not, and practice is the only way to become comfortable with the process. Good safety is always a must. That arc is as bright as the sun, and it WILL burn unprotected skin. Good videos, much appreciated.

Thank you man for bringing my ego back into check, Seriously! I'm a heavy steel stick and wire feed welder for 44 years. I'm just getting back into TIG welding for light gauge fabricating at work in the process of retirement and making a go of my own Custom Industrial Furniture Business. And of course I will be building my hot rods an bike that I never got to build working and raising a family. But, I thought exactly what what you were saying all the super bitchin' stuff was going to fix all the stuff I forgot how to do... it didn't, only practice is going to fix it. And maybe watching a lot of your videos.

Thank you for your service Justin, and thank you for creating these great learning videos. I can MIG but am very new to TIG. One of my biggest questions is gas flow. Most tutorials tend to gloss over this. The formula of 2X the cup size is far better than the set it at 15-20 CF and forget it that I was recently told.

Your advice on sticking with standard consumables while you are learning basic TIG skills is priceless. I bought the fancy cups and gas lenses when I bought my welder a few months ago, but they are not being used until I have got the basics firmly in hand. I have not seen the advice to stick with standard consumables “Early on” anywhere else on KZread. You are exactly right. Thanks for saving me, and others, from that pitfall.

Still a different process. There are mig aluminum applications that will benefit from mixing helium in the gas so it doesn't pull as much heat off the puddle. Same goes for tig. I have a 185amp machine and that is not enough for me to properly weld aluminum that is thick or large enough to pull heat away and prevent a proper puddle. If I use 100% helium I can run an open corner on 1/4" aluminum at proper balance. Can't do it on straight argon unless you can preheat it enough to lower the amount of heat being pulled away.

Hey man what's your take on the longevity of everlast welders? I keep looking into the everlast 252 sti so I have everything from the start but I can't find enough consistent info good or bad to determine if it's gonna make it for the long haul. I saw this video a while back when I was a hobbyist welder, and I still am, but now work in a tool shop where I sell welders along with many other tools. Thankyou for the information you give in your videos, is very helpful. 😊

I've been welding for eons. I'm not professionally trained or, have not gone to any schools on welding. I've just sort of taught myself over a 50+ year period. I think I'm fair at it, not great, but fair. Let's put it this way, nothing of mine that I welded, has ever broke or has ever come un done. But, there's always room for improvement. I'm really glad I found this video. I will search out others of yours to help me with my skills. I very much appreciate you making these videos. Scott

New to Welding. Just planning on buying my first Tig and getting away from Flux core. These series are beyond informative. I've learned so much and probably prevented myself from spending way more than I needed to. I'll watch more before I start, and watch them all again as I learn.

Great video. It's been 20 yrs since I tig welded and it was on a real nice miller. Obviously everything was all set up. Didn't learn about torch tip material or cup size or any of the set up stuff. I didn't have time to learn about nothing but technique. So as I now have a tig welder n need to do some welding on a car project, I needed this video thank you!!

I am 67 and I just love the skill of gluing metal together, did the research of the different models at the time sycrowave and Lincoln. I looked for problem resolutions the list for the sycrowave was very long, the list of problems for the Precision tig 275 was empty. I have no formal education in welding so I wanted to by a tool I could not blame as the cause of my failures. What you have just said in this video I have not heard before. Other than with the Transformer machines use what works, I have heard that. I have repaired a pair of glasses. I have welded a roof that was cut off a Prius and I have welded a power unit back on to a boat motor. I appreciate the effort you put into your videos.

Excellent video here man. I've got an AHP alpha tig 201 XD coming. I started welding four or so years ago. I started with SMAW. I am self taught watching KZread. I started with videos like this one. Mostly ChuckE 2009. Anyway, I was told that I should start my welding experience in SMAW and so I did. I spent a lot of time under the hood practicing and I've come a long way. Three years in and I bought my first wire feed. I bought an Everlast i mig 230 i. Great welder! And super good price. I'm rambling here .... Thank you for making videos like this one here. I know no one in person to get help from and I've got many questions about tig. You are answering those questions here in this video. I can hardly wait to put that tig torch in my hand next week. This video here will put me a mile ahead and I'm grateful! Happy welding to you all and good day!
