Tift Merrit - "Bramble Rose"

Музыка

Originally released in 2002, GRAMMY-nominated, singer/songwriter Tift Merritt’s debut album, Bramble Rose, was named one of the year’s best by The New Yorker and garnered rave reviews worldwide. This year marks the 14 year anniversary of the critically acclaimed record and Yep Roc Records celebrated by re-releasing a limited edition LP. We were lucky enough to spend an afternoon with Tift, where she played us a few tracks from Bramble Rose, including its title track. Don Henley, who covered the song (featuring guest vocalists Miranda Lambert and Mick Jagger) on his 2015 album Cass County recalls of the track, “I’d wanted to record that song ever since I heard it.”

Was picking up Tift Merritt’s Bramble Rose CD because I had heard Bramble Rose because I love very different voices. Don Henley, Miranda and Mick did an awesome job on it, but the studio cut of Tift Merritt doing it cannot be beat. Her song just caresses the words before releasing them. Some will think what I love it awful, but like a painting, the beauty is in the “ear” of the beholder. So one day there I was in a big box store in late September 2001 and this lady browsing saw what I had picked said to me; “Hey if you like a different sound in a voice, check out this CD on the new releases aisle.” So we walked around to that aisle and she picked up “Barricades and Brickwalls by Kasey Chambers”. Of course I bought it, Tift’s, and a couple others. Got in my vehicle, tore open Kasey and put it in the slot, and I FELL IN LOVE! I mean if you like quirky artists that people say are kinda difficult to work with, then you probably have found a verifiably good artist. Kelsey came to the states during the time this album came out but ended up back in Australia not too long after that. Am I Pretty Enough Barricades and Brickwalls Jjuuuuust to name 2 hits off this album. Now if they both would put their old stuff on vinyl for me!

What a tremendous talent she is! A lovely lady, who writes, sings and plays with eloquence and grace. I've been her fan since having read a review of her debut album, "Bramble Rose," which I bought thereafter and haven't stopped playing since.

Sometimes I get lost without CC - the lyrics. Tift is passionate about something but I can't tell what.
