Another basic tip is to load up on train cards at the beginning of the game. 6 turns in you can have 16 cards while other people have a few trains placed and a small card collection. You can start to see where they are going and use your cards to block them or complete your own routes in a few turns. Blocking the Seattle to New York route, for instance, is devastating to the person with the 22 point destination card. One more tip is to load up on cards nobody else is taking even if you don't need the color. You can use them on gray tracks to get 10-15 points.

This video came up recommended to me. Thanks for all the great ideas on different strategies for Ticket to Ride. We started out with Europe in our home and over the years now own almost every version or map collection. Original Ticket to Ride definitely has different options for strategy in comparison to Europe. The draw 3, keep 1 seems to offer you a lot more options for strategy that I hadn't thought about before as I generally play 5:2/4:1 or 4:2/3:1 on other maps in our collection. I am looking forward to Friday game night where I will be testing some of your strategy ideas out. 😁

I've never even thought about strategies, I just instinctively go for a mix of the ticket overload and longest route strategy. However, I only pick up new cards, when I'm relatively certain I can complete the ones I have in the next couple of rounds and I have enough cars. Sometimes those strategies do backfire though. Great video!

Thanks! Testing out strategies is my favorite because you get to see the game from a different perspective and if you loose, you can always blame it on the strategy, haha

Combine the overlapping routes with the longest route strategy, and you can do really well.. I almost always figure out a way to combine all my routes into a single route..

I do the same. I almost always play with the 1910 expansion, so I keep 4-5 tickets from the start and as I start building cards and placing trains, I try to grab more to see if I want to use an alternate route that would better complete a newly drawn and an already existing ticket.

@@taminggames1980 Overlapping routes strategy, the draw should also depend on how many trains other players have left; particularly if you don't have the right colour cards at hand. Having 10 or more trains left, all your routes completed and drawing 3 more is a nice idea, but if you spend your turn, with those point-potential trains sitting in front of you, to draw 3 tickets and the next player signals the "Last turn"...you could get burned that much worse.

Zig-zagging from A to B with lots of 4 and 5 length routes can be effective. My last game I had so many two car length routes that my base score before tickets was only 42. After getting points for completed tickets I was at 101, but it wasn’t enough.

There's a couple key sections of track that I always try to take as well, you can really fuck with people, for example, if on your first turn you always take the nashville/atlanta track. Its a single track so you can just use a "garbage card". Another good one is the Vegas/LA 2-train that can be a devastating one as well. Obviously this is more defensive/troll tactic. I've gotten to the point where people are going to assume I'm going to do it, and they'll try and take it instead, but then I usually play defensively and just go for big random routes that maybe I can connect so it doesn't matter lol

Nice video! Although I would say that the "building the long routes" strategy can't be the winning one. With 45 trains you can have max 107 points which isn't a lot really. Also it's much more fun with the tickets :)

Thanks for your comment :-) The longest route alone may not be a ton of points but combine that with adding tickets, it can add up to a lot. And I totally agree with how fun adding tickets is for the game!

A very helpful guide! I used to be the card hoarder of the group, holding onto 40 cards and then putting them all down in a row. One of the best strats when you just want to win and don't have many adversaries, but after a while, this became a bit boring. I never even considered playing around destination cards (strategy 2) since it always felt like a lost turn picking them up, but it sounds like a lot of fun and you are able to sabotage the hoarders more easily. One small additional strategy that I recommend you implement in your games is to get 8 or more cards of one particular colour. This way you hinder almost every player since all colours are equally important. GL & HF everyone! Boring strategy: kzread.info/dash/bejne/rH-dy8GaiJmzp9o.html

When I'm playing to win I like to use the ultimate dick strategy. Keep the smaller amount of tickets on hand, load up on train cards, quickly claim the 6-train routes, trying to block your opponent's ones. Finish your trains ASAP, your opponents won't even get the chance of developing their games

why didnt you just do Deluth to denver down so you dont waste trains and turns and it connects 2 of your routes

The strategy at 5:50 doesn’t really work since there are two spaces for another player to put down their cart which basically neglects your block. Otherwise really good video :)

It does work in some cases, since double routes are not allowed when playing with 2 or 3 players

As a friendly tip......PLEASE lose that music in the background. We only need to hear your voice. No music needed, especially the loud, fast and distracting kind.
