This is probably my most anticipated game ever, I'm so excited to play this multiple times!

I like Zee's comment about modules. It is like a complex games that has a 12 step tutorial, where they add the rules in increments.

I'm not a huge Ticket to Ride fan, but I'm very pleased it got a high rating, as I was thinking of getting it for the legacy aspect, having enjoyed Pandemic Legacy so much. Thanks for the review.

My wife and I played Pandemic Legacy S1 and we loved it. I loved it so much I actually joined a group at work. I did my best to avoid influencing stuff with my knowledge of the game. I wanted to see their faces for the big reveal in one of the latter months. When it came to Season 2, it started off slow but then we realized we couldn't just play like Pandemic and we had to do some of the extra actions. The second quarter of the game was spent fixing our game world. The finale was awesome though. We had to throw the first game in December because we couldn't win with the state of our world. So we only had one shot to win the game in late December. It came down to the wire but the story we got was awesome. Even though S2 wasn't our favorite it was still a great time. I've always thought TtR could use a legacy and would have been interested to see how it was done. They did a great job with Risk. I can't wait to see what they do with this world.

You mentioned grabbing a key route (Portland to Seattle) right up front in the original game if you were heading that direction. That became a sore spot with us because whoever went first was automatically going to get one of those (also Atlanta to Nashville, New Orleans to Houston, Dallas to Houston, LA to Vegas). So we have a house rule that you have to build out from the cities you have on your cards. Then it becomes a race to get to those key links before someone else gets there, unless of course someone actually has one of the cities on the key link. It adds complexity to your build strategy, and can cause opponents to waste trains building unnecessary routes.

I'm curious if you can sleeve the cards and they'll still fit back into the box.

Question: What complexity is the game after you're done with the campaign? Is it Europe/Nordic Countries levels of complexity or more/less?

Since the rulebook has slots to add stickers to the page, there is a good chance you may have to choose between 2 different rules and throw the other away. So potentially the "final game state" that could then be replayed would vary a great deal. But then I'm not convinced there is much additional complexity in Nordic countries etc. more unforgiving perhaps but all the beats are still there....with an extra couple of notes thrown in the music.

Love the enthusiasm, and I feel the tension about to burst because you want to talk about the secret but can’t!

Cool review. How long is each game? Do they get progressively longer as you progress? Never played a legacy game before.

It'll probably be some time before he's able to report back on that, given it will be an entire campaign on (presumably) personal time.

Glad this scored well. Was super interested anyway. Our family is big ticket to ride fans so we will eventually pick this up

Aeon's end legacy is very 'replayable' in the sense that a lot of the cards and nemeses are usable with the other content. You can use them in individual games

I play ticket to ride one time with 3 other people that had played many times each all they did for the first many turns was draw 2 cards from top of the deck, felt like I was playing a solo game since I was putting stuff on the board then and the end of game they all had huge turns and I was nowhere close to them in final scoring. since this keeps changing as you play and have to develop a strategy as you go, I think I would like this more

Wow, a 9.5 average rating. The best yet since you started this review format. This game wasn't on my radar but now it is. I can wait tho for it to go on sale in a year or two when i can find it for hopefully less than $60 since we have a few campaigns yet to wrap up. I remember scoring Pandemic Legacy S1 for $30.

A couple weeks after they uploaded this they gave the co-op Unmatched game an even higher score, three 10s and a 9.5! I feel that record is going to hold for quite some time as it’s tough imagining a game getting straight 10s from four people.

That’s crazy that you guys tied! We did too and I contacted Alan Moon and He talked to Rob and Matt and They decided to let it be a shared victory. I bet even with open points and If you were trying to tie it would be next to impossible to do!

Is there a market for a full spoiler video? Mostly interested to see all the content. I don’t play legacy games since they take so many sessions and I only get together with others every month or two. Doubt I will ever play this one especially as the last one I tried (Clank Legacy) fell pretty flat for me and I quit about 3 games in.

They say in the video that it should scale well. Even with 2p. Which is great to hear, but I guess they haven't tried it at smaller numbers of course.

Hopefully it’s not spoiling too much to say, but all the company cards are the same. You get $2 every time you complete a route of your colour.

We’ve played 11 of the games over two 8 hour sessions. I think 6 in the first and 5 in the second. Or perhaps 7/4. The game get a lot longer the more of the board that gets revealed. This may vary a lot based on player count. ThinkerThemer was playing with 3 (we were a group of 5) and from their review it sounded like they played about twice as fast. We were trying to play fast and there wasn’t much AP in our group, but there is a lot going on with 5 players.

Start with the basic versions for your family.

Betrayal at House on the Hill Legacy did a great job of leaving you a unique version of the game at the end that you could play over and over again.

question for anyone. my 8, going on 9 year old loves Ticket To Ride. she does a decent job (takes to many wilds usually). i noticed this game is aged higher than the base game? can anyone speak to the age rating? is there something that would put it out of reach for younger players? would she be alright with guidance?

I imagine adding lots of different modules that change every game will likely make it difficult for your daughter to compete. But no reason you can't wait a few years and play it with her then.

This was me for Pandemic. And then they were like, if you lose, play again! Nope. Luckily this doesn't have that issue.

There’s probably something wrong with me, but I teared up a little when y’all’s final thoughts started coming through with glowing praise. Ticket to Ride is such a special game to me, being perhaps the first BIG game that I remember being there for when it first came out, and knowing it was something special. Then some years later (over 11 years ago now), it became the first game my now wife fell in love with, and she herself has said that’s the moment she realized I wasn’t a total nut for loving these board games. 😅 -Trevor Franklin

Betrayal Legacy ends with a fully playable, personalized version to play. After playing it, I wished that IT was the introduction to Betrayal series.

This one will be loved and will likely rocket to the top of BGG - like other Legacy games. For me and my wife, we don't want to play it. Having felt the Clank Legacy game was just too much complexity in the end, this one seems the same (and generally not wanting to play core games with expansions). So a pass for us.

Better ending than Clank Legacy?

The best ending legacy game I've played was Vampire: Masquerade - Heritage.

Clank! Legacy has stuff to unlock during the game that is explicitly meant to be played after the campaign is completd.

You cannot reset the game as elements/components are permanently changed. You are left with a version of the game which can be played over and over, but it is minus many of the modules of the legacy chapters.

Hey Dice Tower, would you guys say this game is punchy? 🤭

My mom loves ticket to ride and most of the expansions. But she is of age, and not a gamer (anymore). Playing other games (then ticket to ride, also gateway games) usually dont work for her. She finds it hard to learn a new game. But again, she loves ticket to ride so much, she has collected almost all expansions (and because of few rule changes in those she can manage). I just hope it works and she can have a memorabel experience. It would mean the world to me. Do you think this can work for her? Or is this probably to complex? I am mostly in doubt because it was mentioned it is a game for gamers and because of the middle part.

That's not the intention with legacy games, so I imagine they won't have tried to test it.

Changes get made before, during, and after each play of the game. I think it would be nigh on impossible to play the campaign more than once.

I am SO over linear legacy games. I miss the chaos that the original Risk Legacy had. So to hear that you are not just opening pre-ordered envelopes has piqued my interest.

Pandemic legacy S1 was one of the biggest let downs for me. The first couple of months started exciting, but we thought the story was extremely predictable as well. It just didn't click at all. So I am also very hesitant to pick TTR up myself. But I am glad people like it.

Whoa, that's some quite high scores! I find regular Ticket to ride very boring game and I'm always surprised when someone says they love that game. It seems to me to be an extremely starter game to play with your parents once a year. Loved Risk Legacy, hated Pandemic Legacy 1, so-so on Gloomhaven. Generally really like the Ticket to Ride system, will I like this?

I despise when legacy games strip down the base game and you essentially have to "unlock" the base game after a few plays and then finally start adding in new content. Can't exactly tell if this game is guilty of it,

It starts out very similar to the base game, albeit with a smaller map and fewer trains. The first few games go quite quickly and new content introduced almost immediately.

Creating Legacy Game components cost a lot more. Having envelopes, things you punch out of a sheet, scratch off, whatever - it costs significantly more than a standard game. For some of the things (Example: cards from Charterstone) forced the printing company to get new things and create new methods of printing that have never been done.

@@borreholic7238 maybe. I don’t know. I just am over the reviews of legacy games. In this one there was at least some idea of how it plays because it is ticket to ride. In some other ones it is well here is a game and you have to take our word for it that it is good. I have played thru three legacy experiences and there hasn’t been a single surprise that blew my mind so giving a bit of a spoiler would be fine for me.

@@BGMechanics I think there will be a spoilerific review coming in the future but that might be too much reveal. I can see the merit of having a "hybrid" review where there's a clearly labeled spoiler section at the end covering the first game or two.

I like "Ticket to Ride", especially the original. But I'm allergic to Legacy games. They just don't work for me. And thinking about having the burden of having to play through a campaign gives me exhaustion. I have a shelf full of games that I haven't played yet, so why would I want a campaign game. And I also have no dedicated play group that meets regularly. And then seeing that event that just randomly gives 5 points to players that are incidentally connected to a certain city. No, I don't see this being good.

@@TPH250290For train cards, there's the option of taking from the display. For destination cards, we house rule that if you already completed the route, redraw. I don't mind event cards as long as there is adequate time to prepare for it and/or the reward/punishment is not too severe - like in Orleans. I hate the event cards in Small World because, many times, the persons who benefit from them just "luck" into them without any clever play. I'm just apprehensive but still excited to get this game, when it's sub $60, ofc.
