Best of luck to you my friend. I'm in a similar situation here in the USA. Our country is ruled by Israeli bankers who steal at least 30% of my income in taxes every year and give me nothing in return. It's not a free country by any means. We have to pay taxes or a fee to do pretty much anything. I can't even go into a National Park nature area here and walk around for less than a $30 fee. It sucks being ruled by foreigners. Just walking around in town my actions are scrutinized by police officers who are looking for a reason to fine or arrest me. At least the Chinese aren't importing millions of foreigners into your country to replace you.

And so they cannibalise their neighbours as they murdered their own people en masse under Mao. They will sacrifice everything for their pride. The CCP is interested in keeping the population weak by getting them addicted to alcohol. Uyghurs are muslim and don't drink alcohol. The CCP wants to eradicate every tradition and separate people to prevent them from uniting against the CCP. The Uyghurs hold on to their religion and traditions, which unites them.

Well Tibet is in a difficult position because it's technically been part of the Chinese Empire since the late 1600s And conquest and formal control was established by the Chinese in 1720, Albeit during a brutal sacking of Lasha and nearly burning the entire city to the ground So understand this isn't me defending the Chinese but to help others understand that their historic claim to the land does have some international legal merit because they have been the rulers of the land for over 250 years Now to be fair the Right of Conquest isn't allowed anymore by international law ever since 1949 but that's neither here nor there and not helpful in Tibet's current situation IMO though they aren't worthy to the claim, because of how badly the Tibetans have been treated as a result of those 250 years and the subsequent half century since Chinese control was reestablished in 1953 But unfortunately Tibet finds itself in a very similar position to Taiwan where it's not a legally recognized country and even worse is that unlike Taiwan who was at one point given a seat at the UN, Tibet never had such a luxury Meaning there's no historical legacy within the recent global world order that Tibet can point to and therefore seek help in regard to it's situation

This video covered the 1904 British India invasion of Tibet, but it didn't cover all the others in the late 19th century. The British would invade Tibet, slaughter Tibetans, loot, rape, and then they would approach the government of Tibet, which was the Qing dynasty of China, and demand ransom to leave, which the Qing always paid. It's also interesting how Simon seems to have not bothered to study Tibetan history at all with his opening remarks. Tibet has seldom been peaceful historically. Despite this, they were largely left alone by China until they invaded China following the Tang Civil War and attempted to conquer vast swaths of Chinese territory. This forced China to view Tibet as a threat to be neutralized. Following that invasion, Tibet has always been under some form of Chinese governance, hence why they are peaceful now.

It is also a sad fact that, no matter where you stand on his divinity, whether he really is the 14th reincarnation of the Dalai Lama or not, Gyalwa Rinpoche, when he passes on, will have been the last true Dalai Lama. The next will be a Chinese puppet. I am not a religious man, but seeing the social or spiritual life of a group of people trampled by something as terrifying as the CCP will always give me chills. ETA: Should have watched to the end before commenting on this one! Well done to Simon's team for covering the aftermath of the current Lama's death when it arrives!

The candidates matching a description given by previous Lama are provided by the Monastery, the names are places in a Golden urn and drawn by Chinese official in charge of Tibetan affairs, and confirmed in a ceremonial process. Do you think China forced South Korea to use its national flag? Do you know Yin and Yang? They placed the pattern invented by China 3000 years ago on the national flag. European kings require recognition from the Pope, while Asian kings require recognition from the Chinese emperor. Did the kings of Europe voluntarily accept the coronation of the Pope? The Chinese emperor will not decide who becomes the king, which means war. They first became kings and then notified China, which recognized them. This is the East Asian order. You can compare the European order.

I deeply respect you guys pointing out the positive aspects of Chinese rule in Tibet without excusing China's brutality and oppression over the Tibetans. Another thing the CCP did that was good for Tibet was end slavery. Slavery was perfectly legal in Tibet prior to the Chinese invasion and subsequent banning of slavery. An uncomfortable number of the original rebels were slave owners protecting their "property". But now China exploits Tibetan workers and resources (not as bad as literal slavery, but still not any good), and I doubt modern Tibet would reinstate slavery if they gained independence today. China has done good things for Tibet, lots of imperialist/colonial powers did good things for their subjects; I just wish the bad things didn't overshadow the positives...

It was what happens after colonial wars and what can be viewed as a civil war. After English and Russia designs in the region along with a LITERAL English invasion China is bound to respond by ending the former informal relationship and just bring Tibet into China proper, or should it just sit idly by and watch as the English / Russians eventually take over and cause eventually more problems? Also Simon glossed over over 20 years(yes, 20 years!) of CIA covert militarize funding program for Tibet which would have contributed to a lot of violence. Doesn't help when China itself was in a chaotic wars/social/government/institution transition phase and things got nasty. However I challenge your assertion that China is exploiting Tibetan workers nowadays. Tibetans treated as full citizens and are offered full modern education but the long herder and temple-llama dominated tradition is in the way of Tibetans acquire modern skills for better businesses and jobs, so it's more like people stuck in old tradition mindset missed the education opportunities and end up only employable in mostly low quality labor jobs, Tibetans who took full advantage of education offering are just as likely as any other Chinese to get into middle-higher class. That's why nowadays you hear the usual exaggerated propaganda about Chinese force brainwashing/cultural genocide school programs which in reality is just government try to push Tibetans into education programs to get out of herder and monastery life to acquire skills for better job opportunities.

What fascinating the most is some random guys trying to justify this brutal occupation. Being a Tibetan and exiled , nothing angered me more than some outsiders flaunting comments on how much the roads and infrastructure have improved in Tibet , completely ignoring the human rights and challenges Tibetans facing both living inside or outside of Tibet . These developments are most likely to happen even if CCP didn’t take the time to brutally killed and destroyed our homes and monasteries in the name of modernisation. I don’t remember learning that our ancestors have made the call for the CCP to come in our rescue . No country’s history is beautiful but that doesn’t give another country the right to intervene.

Thank you for this presentation, Tibet was invaded. Apparently it was one of the lost provinces which have been reclaimed. But basically the CCP saw a weak nation which could be taken (As one Chinese person said "If it couldn't defend itself, it didn't deserve to be independent", which shows the CCP attitude to other states in which it has an interest). As an aside I did a project on Tibet and I stated it was unlawfully invaded, the lecturer marked it down because he stated I was incorrect.

Invaded in 1942? "U.S. Policy Toward Tibet The United States considers the Tibet Autonomous Region or TAR (hereinafter referred to as 'Tibet') as part of the People's Republic of China. This longstanding policy is consistent with the view of the entire international community, including all China's neighbors: no country recognizes Tibet as a sovereign state. Moreover, U.S. acceptance of China's claim of sovereignty over Tibet predates the establishment of the People's Republic of China. In 1942, we told the Nationalist Chinese government then headquartered in Chongqing (Chungking) that we had 'at no time raised (a) question' over Chinese claims to Tibet." TESTIMONY BY KENT M. I'm my opinion I'm in agreement because the Chinese lost all rights to the lands with how horribly they treated the Tibetans And that's been going by the Chinese ever since the first burning of Lahsa when Chinese control was permanently established in 1720 However there's a reason why the legality of Tibet has always been up in the air and deemed a controversial issue primarily because it was never a sovereign state after Imperial China annexed it in the early 18 century and never did receive worldwide international recognition when imperial China fell And the issue has been further complicated because is has always been a part of China ever since it was formally annexed in 1720
