Ok Gavin I would like to say thank you! Your channel is my new favorite. I love the way each video flows with detail and knowledge of a TESTED and USED product and the video is quick to the point and leaves me with information to help make a useful decision. Please keep it up liked and subscribed mate great job. I am currently purchasing a semi portable DAC/amp for headphones. I was looking at the THX onyx, iFi Hip-Dac, iFi Zen DAC, Monoprice THX AAA portable or could be persuaded to something more expensive if its worth it. My main use for this is when I travel not in the sense of walking down the street or in the airport but rather sitting in hotels for quarantine 14 days at a time. I would mainly be using this with my 12 pro max or surface or macbook pro.

I use the Onyx with Etymotic earbuds (ER4P and ER4XR) and I am astonished by how good the combination is. I have a custom build AC powered amp which is better than the Onyx, but not by much. For a fully mobile setup this device delivers amazing sound. I'd be interested in your thoughts on the Onyx compared to the Dragonfly series.

Sounds the same as Mojo. Mojo is old, amd is fulla guts, THX is streamlined, so if you're thinking about it, unless you're mobile, go Mojo. But this is THX's 1st product (2nd if you consider the theater setups a product) and is meant for mobile.

    3 жыл бұрын

@@GavinsGadgets The Qudelix has a lot of cool features, including impressive Bluetooth fidelity and range. It also has a fantastic app, with a built-in parametric EQ, that is a tinkerer's dream due to multiple settings options. The Qudelix form factor also is marvelous, as it's about the size of a 9-volt battery. But the Qudelix and hip-dac couldn't be more different in sound signature as a DAC. The Qudelix is very bright due to its ES9218P Sabre chip. The hip-dac uses a Burr-Brown chip, which has a much warmer sound. The difference is clearly audible with decent-to-good cans. The hip-dac also has a lot more power than the Qudelix. I think it's a case of horses for courses. If Bluetooth and built-in EQ are main selling points, then the Qudelix is a marvelous piece of kit. It also adds a bit of needed sparkle to my Meze 99 Classics, which are fun but very warm cans. The pairing of the hip-dac and the 99 Classics boosts the warmth just too much for my ears. But the hip-dac sounds fantastic with my HiFiMan HE-400se International cans, which you just reviewed. Very musical, the right blend of warmth and brightness. I love those cans just as much as you! Keep up the good work here. Really enjoy your reviews. And I just followed you on Instagram. Your photography is beautiful! Who knew? You're a talented dude.

@@GavinsGadgets I have Onyx for a few days, disappointed at first, because it didn't show much potential through iTunes, just tad sweeter than headphone jack. But switched to Audirvana, it's a different world, the sense of space, body, dynamics, accuracy just fantastic, I'm pretty amazed by what this little thing can do. It's a very focused sound which coming more in front of you while Hip Dac less depth but more width. I would say Onyx is bit clearer, more focused, faster, more well controlled device than Hip Dac, but it can't beat the Hip Dac's bass boost, and other versatile features, Hip Dac isn't picky about equipment, it makes all kinds of headphones and IEMs enjoyable to listen to, while Onyx might need an audiophile level music player and better paired with a headphone with good bass to get full potential.
