Aw shucks. We're blushing over here!
This interview moves me on a soul level. One of the best ever. Seriously. Showed up for Thundercat, surprised at the interviewer's skills. Props to all of the others not on camera/mic, as well...who obviously love music, and helped to coalesce all of the research to put this interview together. Thundercat relates to life so clearly. I really appreciate him, as an artist. I was introduced to his music at the time "Oh Sheit It's X" came out (2013). Could tell he grew up with crate digger culture, as his ears are so well tuned. I really think he could be a great cultural ambassador, like Frank Zappa. Profound reconnecting to my higher self, for having watched this. Somehow feel my imagination just got shaken off the shelf. Real fireworks...more than real. THANK YOU, SO MUCH! Keep it groovy!

Man he perfectly articulated how good Steely Dan is, so rare for them to get that credit. Mad props to thundercat
The westcoast is winning heavy when it comes to music. Just TDE and their associates alone like Thundercat and Flying Lotus are incredible.

the "westcoast" is winning heavy thanks to america-csny-steely dan-cristopher cross-fleetwood mac-toto etc...this is the REAL Music USA is famous all around the world and thundercat know this very well!
Zappa was really on another level. Never heard Thundercat before, but I'm a huge Zappa fan, I'll sure give his album a listen! By the way, Brown Shoes Don't Make is originally from the Absolutely Free album, although the Tinseltown Rebellion version is really great too.
Thundercat, thank you because I felt like a crackhead listening to Steely Dan on repeat as well Deacon Blues I would play that back to back. I used to get made fun of a lot because it seems I knew every Kenny Loggins song, every Michael McDonald and Doobie Brothers song, and I would blast living inside Myself by Gino Vannelli driving down the street. Just discovered your music a week ago. Thank you for inspiring this musician to finish his record.
I don't find it surprising that he considers Zappa a huge influence. The influence George Duke had on his singing is as clear as day, it was the very first thing I noticed when I started listening to Thundercat. That and the humor on his lyrics, of course.
@csscszcsgv

Me too. I think Zappa would have liked his music.
I'm jealous of this guys love and understanding of music.
Wow - Thundercat adores Frank Zappa, Jaco/Weather Report, Erykah Badu AND Kendrick Lamar? No wonder he makes the music I love the most in this century - they are all my favourites!
that actually lowkey made me feel weird when they talked about how art is a reflection of life and so that of course music is going to reflect the emotions of the people living in that time period i guess it's simple but its just weird to think that you can listen to how someone felt 100-200 years ago

Great interview! Cool to hear his thoughts on Frank Zappa. I have a feeling Frank would've loved Thundercat's music and ideas.

The interview doesn't overshadow Thundercat, though. The title may, but the interview gives us a view into Thundercat's perspective - in relation to Kendrick and their producing music together, social commentary in music, Thundercat's experience and his own music, Frank Zappa and Kenny Loggins - and his insightful, humour-filled opinions, his voice. I get what you're saying though.

this is an amazing interview
Great interview, thanks!!
It's so incredible to me that there are popular artists today who truly believe they understand music on an intellectual level-- and then you hear this man speak! He has such a massive wealth of information regarding the history and theory of music that Kanye, Jay Z, and hip hop's other "elites" couldn't hold a candle to. He holds himself with zero arrogance whatsoever, and possesses such a friendly, unpretentious demeanor that most anyone can relate to.

This is a very good interview. The host did a great job. Thundercat was great too.
This is so refreshing to see.. someone just enjoying life and music
Eric Andre pops out at 1:18 and cracks open a messy can of spray cheese
@THUNDERCATMUSIC I felt the way you did with Zappa with "Show you the way" I had heard the song a million times, then really studied the lyrics and saw you made an accompanying beautifully positive messaged video. It spoke to me in my life and what I'm currently going through and I can't thank you enough for the message of living and finding out "on the edge of dark, there's the brightest light, a burning light on the edge of dark, where no one can tell their world's apart, we'll live with dark, just take the ride". This was one of the best songs and music videos ever made, it's a top ten of all time for me now, thank You THUNDERCAT, band mates, Michael McDonald, And Kenny Loggins for making such an incredibly positive messaged song that I'm sure has impacted many lives in times of need.

Thunder Cat is the truth that album is amazing
Great interview BTW!!!
Thundercat is my favorite producer and songwriter of all time. A lot of his songs are nostalgia of a time far gone. Also, the interviewer only playing Kendrick's verse showed he wasn't giving Thundercat his props. He literally masterminded the whole project himself.
Imagine a collab with him and Paul McCartney the two greatest musicians from far different generations. Both worked to make insane albums like Abbey Road and To Pimp a Butterfly.
Sharp dude. Great convo.
